New Uniroyals probably cheaper than used tyres.

Now we all likes a bargain and Uniroyal have superceeded their venerable Rain Expert with Rain Expert 3.

http://www.tyreleader.co.uk/ (German site) have got them in certain sizes at seriously cheap prices, presumably to get them sold and onto the market so they can get feedback.

Just ordered four for the daughters Aygo, 155/65 x 14's @ £28.09 each free delivery, thats bloody cheap and i suspect the exchange rate is helping us for a change.

If you need some rubber soon boys n girls it might be worth having a look see cos i don't think that price will last for ever...i've bought from that site lots of times, not had any problems at all.

fark me, £30.89 per tyre delivered for 175/70 R13 (the tyre spec of winnars). Might get a set for Mrs_Stanky's Kia which could do with a pair of new tyres on the back...

On the other hand I had Rainexpert 3s on the C2 and while grip and handling were excellent and wet grip was frankly astounding, they provided a harsh, crashy ride and very high road noise, coupled to them not lasting long at all.

I replaced them with a set of Falken Zeix which were about the same price I paid for the Uniroyals (Granted not these promo prices) and grip seems the same but with a very noticeable increase in comfort and lower noise.

Silly size though, 195/45/16, so perhaps not a fair comparison with higher profiles.

That must have been a VTR/VTS Dave, shall never forget the ride and noise of ours, it went like buggery being a remapped 1.6 Diesel but it'd shake your bloody fillings out...ours came on the OE Michelin Pilote's, horrid, noisy hard ride and serious torque steer, put Vred Sportracs on and it improved on all fronts.

Yeah, a VTR. Sold it now, to my sister who has started fucking it up already and hasnt even paid for it yet, but I will perhaps save that for the grump thread.

Cant get Uniroyals in the C8 size, but the Falken's are devilishly cheap.

That'll be the 195/50/15s for the clio sorted then..

Check out the Falken Sincera Ecoruns - quieter, more fuel efficient AND better wet rating than Uniroyal Rain Experts. Usually a couple of quid cheaper too.

Have them on Mrs P's Fiat, totally transformed it

Just be a little careful with tyreleader, yes they are very cheap for tyres, and funnily enough I bought a pair of rainsport 3's in 195/50/15 end of last year. On the website you can decide to have the tyres delivered to your home address or the garage that will be fitting them which are listed on the website along with the price they charge for fitting. Anyway I decided to have them delivered to a garage in Wakefield because they had a really bargainess fitting price. Anyway email comes saying tyres had been delivered, great I thought, rung the garage up to organise a good time to have them fitted, only to be told by the garage that they have no association with tyreleader whatsoever and the price for fitting listed on the website was bullshit too. Fortunately the guy said this had happened numerous times before, and fortunately would still fit the tyres for me but not at the price advertised though. In there favour they did not charge too much as I think he felt a bit sorry for me. I would defo use them again, but I would always ring the garage that the tyres will be delivered to/fitted by just to check that all is above board first.

Shitting hell, two new 205/55/16 Michelins for £78.86! Mega bargain, wish I'd seen that before I bought budget ones for my Vectra.

2 195/65/15s for £65. Have always found Uniroyals a decent tyre, for that price, delivered, wcpgw?

Nice range of stuff for my steelies at 155/80 R13, currently got RainExperts on the 1300 and the 1850 has some winter tyres of some description. Also a good range of stuff in the Sprint alloy size 175/70 R13...

The tyres arrove on wednesday at work as planned, they are stamped 0515 soi are all of 6 weeks old so its not like they are ancient stock desperately shifted at bargain prices. Having them fitted to the Kia tomorrow for £9 a piece if I take the old ones away which seemed fair as he'll balance them too.

I reckon I can get £10 each for the old ones on the bay, they have plenty of tread but are less than complimentary to the Kia's already dismal dynamic* ability* on wet roundabouts. Anyone want a pair of 175 65 r14s for cheap?

anyway, that means I have a pair of brand new uniroyals delivered and fitted for under £50 if I can recoup £10 each on the old ones. mental.

Thanks for the tip-off GordonBennet!

I've just ordered some Michelin Energy savers from this website for the Scimitar as they worked out about £20 cheaper than Mytyres. Hopefully should be delivered to my cousin's tyre place in Chichester sometime next week.

I've bought a new* car and it has the usual batch of 4 mismatched unheard of brand rock hard shit on. Does anyone know if the gov's ratings for grip etc can be relied on? They have Falken Sinceras for 33 quid each and get good ratings. I could just get Rainexpets again like, £152 for 4 delivered.

Posted

Umm, well I think that the grip rating (A-G) is more of a guide, and probably only applies when they are new. I would hazard a guess that they harden at different rates over time so no much use after much time has passed.

This is all presumption on my part though...

Posted

I stand to be corrected, but understand those ratings are not govt tested, they are submitted by the maker after presumably a standardised test.

I started my working life in a proper tyre repair workshops...another trade almost unheard of now...and have taken an interest in tyres ever since...as such i find it a bit bemusing that certain foreign makes from the land of ditchfinders who's tyres cost tuppence ha'penny often happen to have full A ratings for wet grip where premium makes 5 times the price often rated C or worse....just saying like....though i wouldn't expect anything but a fair assessment form someone like Falken, if you go onto tyrereviews.co.uk site and read the european comparative tests by various magazines its very seldom an unknown cheap make gets anything other than punitive marks in real tests, tyretest.com is another useful user scored comparison site.

I had a set of Vredestein Wintrac Extremes on the Hilux, seperate set of wheels for winter, they stuck like shit to a blanket in the wet you couldn't unshake the buggers and that motor was very tail happy, yet look at their wet grip rating and its crap...buggered if i know what to make of half this scoring/grading shit any more.

I've slung, or rather sold cos i'm a tight git, tyres on within 1000 miles of buying them when i discover they give about as much wet control as a rotting fish...sold the Pirellis off me new Hilux within 1000 miles...no coincidence i reckon that we couldn't buy the demo cos one of the salesmen folded it up on a wet roundabout and wrote the bugger off.

BY the way, i'm glad some of you have had good results with Tyreleader, i'm not on commission by the way...i used to and prefer to buy locally where possible, but the decent manager at the place i used moved on and in his stead the new bloke doesn't want to supply what i want, he tries to tell me what i should have instead (no doubt what they make the most on)...well sod off mate, i have a well researched short list and if you don't want to please the customer, the bloody online seller will, and if you don't want to fit the buggers i can still do me own if needs be, so nurrh.

Posted

The tyre fitters were amazed at the price I'd got when I had them fitted earlier - they even ask where they were from, as that was cheap even for a company which would presumably order in bulk.

Agree with buying locally but the price of these makes it a no-brainer, and supported the locals having them fitted at least.

I bought some 245/45 and 205/45 16" T1R's from Tyreleader, the other week.

Top prices and top service!

Fuck me 4 Uniroyal Rain Expert 3's @ 175/65/r14 for £106! £26 a tyre!

A friend runs them on his octavia and he says their fuckign brilliant, he pays £120 per tyre though cos vrs stupid thin tyres!

I think I know what I need to do (part worns are £20 each... will need to add £40 for fitting balancing and disposal of old at the tyre place by work, but I do like their work)

I can confidently tell you Uniroyal tyres can not be depended upon if you like to 'make progress' and have over 200bhp under your right foot!

Firestone all the way for good middling tyres on cars.
