Shitefest 2015 5-7th June

Eight hours from London to Edinburgh, where you doing it in reverse?

Posted

The problem with Shitefest Ecosse is that most of us live in the central belt, which is pretty grim in the sunshine and utterly miserable in the rain. North of Stirling is lovely though but even further away and at the very edge of the Motorway network.

Besides, Wales is gorgeous and the venues have been brilliant.

In saying that, Devon is lovely too. In all honesty it could be anywhere and I'd still turn up as it's the best event of the year bar none.

A peanut bladder means my journeys take much longer than 'normal' folk....

I reckon Scotland is too far from the majority of the people on here.God knows how the SVM do it all the time, god bless 'em.

We're fucking mental. Thats all I can come up with.

Anyway my tiny Volvo* does about 49mpg, but I'm not sure I can lie down in it.

It isn't too far really, but it is too far for a two-day weekend and would certainly prevent day-trippers from middle England. Also, mostly, Scotoshiters do seem to have ideal transport for long distance work.

and they like to get some decent weather :)

Yeah it's a combination of various factors. The SVM are mostly bus and truck drivers so long distance isn't out of the ordinary. I have a shift that does Glasgow to Preston and back. Glasgow to Aberdeen and back is quite a daily regular. That and the Volvos are very good at long distance. The rest of the non-SVM Scotoshiters still have decent motors for long haul work but I reckon that's because a lot of the interesting places in Scotland are big distances apart.

And aye...we're fucking loonballs.

A punt as an idea. If a change of location, and providing the SVM is willing, I humbly suggest North Devon.

Top shout, Exmoor is only 30 miles away from me and on a clear day like today I can see it from the top of the garden:

How much is an Amphicar these days?

We've discussed this.

Some people won't come from the south coast to Wales 'cos it's "too far away" so what do you think the attendance would be like if we were to hold it north of the border?

this happened with the single make bike i used to be on they had the annual thing mostly in the midlands some times in yorkshire and the odd time in east argular

usually 40 50 bikes would turn up from cornwall london and the odd foreign nutter

the last one in 2012 (rip) they picked hayle  in cornwall

9 turned up :D

all the suvnas enjoyed the hoon round wales - yid fkin love roond sootland :D

Plus there is a quality steam railway at Minehead for all the diesel purves to get uppity over.

Wayyy ahead of you.

I particularly like how the news section of the website hasn't been updated since July 2011.

This was particularly annoying for me, as I'm in Wales, and my folks are in North Devon. Was quite firmly mooted when we moved, but as you say, it's (ahem) dead in the water.

I wouldn't mind Scotland tbh . While it is further for me it's probably not much more time wise .

Lick your eyeballs and you would be there in a flash mate.

Not fussed TBF but I did like the 2 location set up .... with the drive in between. Is there anywhere mid country we could find and arrange for next year??? Having had a quick look how about Buxton its got a car racing track trains and some good looking roads. Its also pretty central for everyone....May be someone close would be able to tell us more??

The Mercedes was far too reliable, economical and comfortable.  Next time, I'll be in this...

I'd agree, you can get from the Midlands to the border in the same time as getting to Devils Bridge.

South Scotland should be as easy as west Wales for most of us.

South... Scotland. Is that... in... Scotland? I'm not sure we'd be able to do that, that's less than a tank of pez in a Volvo.

Go via Inverness then you arsey jock. Anyway the V5 has been sent to the DLVA, expect them to be chasing you for tax in about 4 weeks.

Not saying folk shouldn't go and do it (or 2CV 24hr in Anglesey August 22-23 for instance. I'm crewing with a team), just that a different, bigger event wouldn't be Shitefest really. Personally, I think there's room in the year for more than one Shite-related jaunt though.

A shitefest where I can go home and sleep in my own bed? I'm okay with this.

My first point of persuasion: Dalveen pass.

Amen to that, shitefest needs to just be an AS thing considering we just leave cars there with the keys in.

I could try and have a sniff round here for a location if anyone thinks its a good plan. Plenty of nice roads and not too far from this weekends locations if we wanted to convoy to one of them.

I left my keys In and door open and mine never moved. Must be some trusting folk with such a classic and desirable motor as mine.......
