Harris Mann, wasn't it? Except the original design had a flat bonnet, and rather predictably, TR7-esque scallops.

So whoever is really responsible for the Allegro is a production engineer who couldn't grasp the idea of a canted-back E-Series.

Some of the Allegro initial designs were quite smart. This one reminds me of a a GS/Ami hybrid. Very 70s cool

It's like the Maxi/Landcrab vs Peugeot 204/304 sort of designs. Somehow, and I have no idea how, the originals (are they Pininfarina) make the cow-hipped/short tapering boot look good then BMC/BL do it and it looks frumpy/dumpy. HOW?! Did the British stylists not have eyes?

Though if we're going to argue aesthetics the Triumph SD2 is one of the bizarrest things ever, and LC88 as 'a euro style hatch' (pre-Metro) is just weird. Proportions worthy of a Geely Beauty Leopard vs a Supra.

Reminds me of the Gordon keeble front end.

I have been to vote in the council election today, another excuse to swan around in the Daimler if just to our local village 2 miles away. The pub landlord was there when we came back to the car and said I thought it was yours I had spotted it on your drive!

Bit of minor tinkering has taken place with 6c's 306 Convertible, stereo now saves settings and doesn't light up like a drug induced disco experience on startup and knackered speakers replaced.. Next the ABS warning light (anyone nearby (Stafford) got a code reader that's likely to get abs codes?

Think mine's in the back of the Blingo if you want to give it a whirl.

Roof should be down unless you've gone in for the night.  Think I had the roof down in that for 95% of the miles.

It is wet and horrible here but a man has do what a man has to do!

That involves  going to a wind swept wet field to prepare the Carlton for trailering as my generator fails to ramp up quick enough to work a welder. The Carlton has stood for a week and started on the button, drove out of the wet grass without issue. Now on its way for further love.

Both the Carlton and XM are severely lacquer challenged but looked good wet today.

You welded it up yet?

The boys bought their welders last weekend, but while in theory my generator will run them because at idle the generator has low current it cannot ramp up quick enough to strike an arc.

It has now been moved so the welding can be done along with the exhaust.

Making the exhaust today.

I cant believe that with a single cut a discovery v8 back box pipe fits perfectly!

I made things complicated again. .

So a spare carlton centre section and discovery back box,

20210509_115222.thumb.jpg.04ad3a9ec2e2811f633d6d7e8afd1d6d.jpg

Some chopping and thinking later and the box is in. The bumper is all melted from previous exhaust issues.

20210509_140601.thumb.jpg.d3200bb21f4f023f98dd182af1cd76f4.jpg

So i cut the bumper to a nice even square but then it ended up massive. And well this happend . . .

Some head scratching and some large ish gaps in the joints were welded but for a first attempt at an exhaust from basically scrap im quite pleased.

That better?

No, there is room in there for a V10, the exhausts are going to be fun!

@Andyrew I really need to have a chat with you at some point about some work I need to get done on the van eventually.  I know doing it anything resembling tidily is well beyond my capabilities!
