Six Cylinders Motoring Notes

@ianbmw came back to lie on the ground under the Carlton tonight.

The good news is the n-s subframe bush has been replaced this evening.

The bad news is the o-s subframe bush we started last Friday is proving stubborn and not done yet.

Then it got DARK!

I fear that the faithful old retainer @Slowsilver is being usurped as the go-to dogsbody by the young bounder @ianbmw.

I was thinking of going, but had to go to work.

It was well worth the effort. 800+ cars to look at and new and old friends to chat to.

Maybe next year. It’s been a stressful month.

Brief moment of "it's a small world" double take there, did not expect to see that particular fire engine in a post on here.

He left it alone so I thought it would be a good photo. Lawrie came back to see what I was up to and we had a happy chat including the perils of driving a Fire Engine halfway across the country. Now I wish I had asked him to pose between the pair.

Another “Grand Day Out Gromit” on Sunday at the BMC Day, Milton Keynes Museum just with the Metro in the end.

The MG Metro is one of the tidiest cars we have but I ended up next to the Applejack Metro, the best in the country and better than new!

Genuine mk1 PI estate? That's a bit special if it is. They only made 371 to start with. Survivors must be in single digits and roadworthy survivors in very low single digits.

The Triumph Estate stated life as a 2000 Auto but is now a 2.5 Pi Manual.

It belongs to Mark the proprietor of my favourite garage. It looked like a rotten parts car when he got it and he welded it all up then did the mechanical work. It is Mark's "everyday" 2500 so the paint is untouched and a bit scruffy. He also has a genuine 2500 Pi Saloon in lovely condition. The good news for me is he has lent the estate to me a few times and says I can borrow his best saloon next year.

The P6 belongs to @Zelandeth of this parish.

I think any sort of mk1 would be a great companion for my 1300TC. I had quite a few many years ago but the days of picking them up for under a grand are long gone.

This was my first. Had it a couple of years when a Ford Transit cut across a junction and wiped the offside front corner out. I sold it to another 2000 Register member who repaired it and sold it to another member who still owns it to this day. He must have had it 30 years now. I still see it occasionally at local shows.

It's actually Cactus over Olive not the more common Conifer. Cactus interior too.

I owned this MK2 2500TC manual saloon for 5 years. I sold it because while solid it needed a full respray and many minor dents taken out of it caused by bicycles being leaned on it in storage prior to me owning it. Also the lack of power steering always disappointed me.

Mark recently had a lovely original 1964 2000 manual saloon that he offered to me. I borrowed that for a couple of days but only being a 2000cc and having no power steering didn't quite hit the spot.

Mk2s look fantastic in Tahiti Blue. I was always more of a mk1 man back in the day but Mk2s in a good colour do look very elegant. I personally can't think of a more attractive four door saloon. I know it's all down to personal taste but if anybody disagrees, sorry, you're wrong.

I love the look of the Mk1 front, and the rear - that lived on through the smaller cars for ages

Today's motoring news is our Citroen C15 van is back on the road with a fresh MOT after a fair amount of welding this year.

Would they be able to start it if they could get to it?
