Six-cylinder Posted June 2, 2023 Author Posted June 2, 2023 A bit more Carlton 2.0i estate work tonight, @ianbmw came round and he took the head of the Carlton. Unfortunately the bores were full of water and engine is locked even with the head off. We have filled the bores with oil and will wait a couple of days to see if that helps. richardmorris, Floatylight, Andyrew and 3 others 6

(especially if you put some standard steelies back on it) or at least mates up to the gearbox? or maybe that was said sarcastically and I completely missed it LOL but I was looking at that engine bay and said "that inline 4 looks a bit lost in there" to which i was told yeah its designed for an inline 6, so my immediate thought was, of course, can you put a V12 in there then? LOL
Six-cylinder Posted June 3, 2023 Author Posted June 3, 2023 Today the C15 got a quick wash before I used it to collect a garden table. It looks better but needs a proper clean and polish and bearing in mind the other projects on the go is somewhere near the bottom of the list. Also with Diesel down to £1.44 tempted me to put 40 Ltr in and fill the tank. The interior was hovered out last weekend expertly by Charlie, @beko1987son, if only he was bigger we could have set him on the outside as well! I went back to the FoD to swap back into the Fiat but the MX5 winked at me in the sunshine, unfortunately I did not have the key with me. I plan to spend some time at the FoD tomorrow working on the Peugeot 404 if any body wants to help me or just pop in to say high. Crackers, LightBulbFun, richardmorris and 1 other 4

Six-cylinder Posted June 5, 2023 Author Posted June 5, 2023 Today was another game of car Tetris played with the super star @Slowsilver I needed the BMW 330Ci for tomorrow, Maserati BiTurbo for Wednesday, MGB GT for Thursday, Citroen DS and Ami for Friday. Also There are plans to get the Cadillac MOTed and back running so that was woken up from the back of the storage shed. The battery I took along was too large to fit in position but we got in started with it loosely in there. It drove well on the farm road, but the electric fan did not cut in when showing 106° C so that needs investigating. Dick Cheeseburger, Floatylight, richardmorris and 1 other 4

That’s a really good question we have around 30 cars that are legal and work. Let’s eliminate some to get a short list. Any cars not capable of high 20s mpg are out. Metro and Visa Twin are out for having 4 gears. Citroen AX, Trevi and Gamma are out because I don’t trust them. C15 is out because it is slow and a bit cramped. MX5 is out because while it is comfy when I am in getting in and out is difficult, Mercedes 200TE because not as good as a 320, Citroen GS because it is stuffy on a warm day, BMW 330Ci because Mrs6C would not like it piling on 500+ miles, Fiat Seicento because it is my daily. That leaves only! · Alfa 156 V6 Sports Wagon · Citroen Ami 8 Break · Citroen BX GTi · Citroen DS Super · Citroen XM 2.0 16v Auto · Citroen ZX TD Estate · Citroen Visa 17RD · Citroen Xantia Activa · MGB GT · Maserati 425 BiTurbo Saloon · Mercedes E320 Coupe · Triumph Toledo · Triumph Vitesse · Volvo V70 T5
Crackers Posted June 6, 2023 Posted June 6, 2023 Xantia Activa strikes the best balance between shite, noteworthy and long-distance journey. Otherwise, BX GTI, which is a bit too cool to be shite, or the E320, which is far too nice for shite but a wonderful mile-eater. brownnova, AnthonyG, wuvvum and 1 other 4

LightBulbFun Posted June 6, 2023 Posted June 6, 2023 1 minute ago, richardmorris said: Oil or diesel? thats the JCB your thinking of LOL obviously im going to recommend @Mrs6C Model 70, its technically got an infinite amount of gears, and will happily return 45-50Mpg on a run, so it ticks all* of the criteria boxes, it even has a custom made vinyl(?) trimmed wooden box to help you slide in and out of it for easy entry and egress (there just a small* matter of it needing a clutch and functioning brakes...) although on a More serious note, I think id pick the Triumph Vitesse, correct me if I am wrong, but I understand its been off the road for a little bit due to gearbox woes and its been a while since its been out and about right? so a nice long trip to shitefest and back might be just the ticket for blowing off the cobwebs so to speak for it otherwise I think id have to pick the Citroen DS, because well its a Citroen DS, do I need to say much more than that? lesapandre, richardmorris and High Jetter 3
Six-cylinder Posted June 6, 2023 Author Posted June 6, 2023 A bit of a different car day for me today, a visit to Milton Keynes BMW dealer. Mrs6C’s 23 year old BMW E46 has an airbag recall and I got to sit in the showroom and drink coffee for 3 hours while they fitted/checked them. They found time to check the car and recommended £860 worth of work like £48 for a pair of new wipers. I was a little surprised Mrs6C let me go to that sweet shop, I could have come back with anything and you know how I am with random purchases! Thing is the new BMW products just don’t attract me much. Then there was the monster in the front window, do modern car buyer really think this grotesque BMW XM is a stunning looking car worth spending £162,000 on? He was passionate about many aspects of the railway industry, as well as many other matters of transport, history and geography. Many heritage railways and other organisations owe him a huge debt of gratitude. The crew that looked after 19B is leading an initiative to set up the 'Darjeeling Tank Locomotive Trust' to buy the locomotive, base it at the Statfold Barn railway in the Midlands and continue Adrian's practice of maintaining it and taking it on tour, for the enjoyment and education of the wider public.
