Mrs6C Posted May 4, 2018 Posted May 4, 2018 I have just got back the Alfa Giulietta wheels with tyres to enable the car to be moved.Just the one original tyre left to be replaced then and also the spare if we can find it!
Six-cylinder Posted May 4, 2018 Author Posted May 4, 2018 We could also look at some mower action on Sunday. It has not been started since September. chaseracer and Mrs6C 2
richardmorris Posted May 4, 2018 Posted May 4, 2018 I used to drive one for the church in colnbrook. Coming soon to the end of runway 3 at Heathrow!Whipping the plugs out for a clean usually got it going with a good battery. Just remembered we had a lethal wood shredder attachment on the back-lots of fun for all the family!
Zelandeth Posted May 4, 2018 Posted May 4, 2018 Not sure whether time will allow or not, especially as I'm going to be trying to get along to the PC drive/get together over at Gaydon/Bicester on the Sunday too. Don't let me near the Metro. I'm a terribly sentimental sod and dearly miss my old yellow 1981 MiniMetro HLE... Still don't know what happened to it...vanished off the world it seemed about a month after I sold it. I fear pulled to bits for bits. No rust on it, but they weren't worth anything in 2004... probably was worth more in bits. Let me sit in one and I'll probably wind up getting all emotional...never mind hearing that pinion whine. Noises like that never get old for me. Especially when being belted around a twisty back road. If I do come along folks are welcome to have a nosey at the Activa if they like. Don't actually have anything on the to do list for that at the moment save for a good clean and a stainless exhaust. Oh, and creaky struts, but they've done that for about the last 12 years apparently.

Zelandeth Posted May 5, 2018 Posted May 5, 2018 Oh...on second thoughts, if someone wants to fish the cassette that I foolishly got stuck in the tape deck out they're welcome!
Six-cylinder Posted May 5, 2018 Author Posted May 5, 2018 After SiC pointed out this retro look radio I ordered one for the Gamma. 2 1/2 weeks from Hong Kong seems good service to me. It looks good, but I can't fit it yet as the car is locked in a shed with no wheels away from home while the wheels are being refirbished. SiC, Mrs6C and worldofceri 3

beko1987 Posted May 6, 2018 Posted May 6, 2018 Are you all dead from heat exhaustion yet? So damn tempted to pop over for a bit but I've not got the fuel nor the energy in me now!
Six-cylinder Posted May 6, 2018 Author Posted May 6, 2018 Are you all dead from heat exhaustion yet? So damn tempted to pop over for a bit but I've not got the fuel nor the energy in me now! In spite of being short handed we tackled four projects, two resulted in failure and two successes. A BIG thanks to Slowsilver who worked tirelessly all day. It was 10pm before Mrs6C I got home and yes I am knackered.
Six-cylinder Posted May 6, 2018 Author Posted May 6, 2018 Alfa Giulietta was the first thing we tackled with the aim of moving it to a more convenient position to work on it now I have tyres that hold air. One of the front brakes was locked that required the removal of the calliper because even with the pins out the pads would not let go of the disc. Then we found both rears were also locked but they are inboard and having shown Slowsilver what was required on a handy spare rear transaxle we decided that was too big a job for us. richardmorris, worldofceri and egg 3
Six-cylinder Posted May 6, 2018 Author Posted May 6, 2018 The second failure is my Peugeot moped, first the rear brake was stuck on but that freed dragging the bike around but now it will not start. It has petrol and wets its plug if you keep kicking it over. We tested for a spark and with the plug out kicking it over causes a spark at the plug. I don’t know what to do next?
Six-cylinder Posted May 6, 2018 Author Posted May 6, 2018 The rear brake was also locked on my Honda off road moped and no amount of bumping would free it so we decided to take the wheel off. It did not want to come so I started to compose a post asking you lot for help and it took me so long Slowsilver found a way to unstuck the brake shoes and get it apart. Refitting is a reversal of removal but even then it did not give up without a fight as we had a fractures fuel pipe and the only pipe we could find was too big and needed bodging on. Anyway after all that it started easily and Slowsilver test rode it! eddyramrod, The Moog, egg and 2 others 5
Six-cylinder Posted May 6, 2018 Author Posted May 6, 2018 Then was the W8 mower, the idea was to cut the grass to the toilet, water and camping paddock before the grass was so long that this 8hp beauty could not cope with it. It started easily first time since Sep and off I went and got right down the field and run over a garden hose throwing the drive belt. The field is still quite wet and soft and I had the Alfa 156 today so not wishing to face pushing the mover back I ventured into the field with the Alfa and managed to tow it back in. Slowsilver to the rescue and soon the belt was back on. I managed to run out of fuel and then it would not restart, pilot error this tine because ethe cutting deck was engaged and it has a safety switch to stop it starting until the cutter is disengaged. The good new is the camping paddock has had its first cut ready for 14th July and so has the orchard as Mrs6C has a group from Northamptonshire Native Breeds Trust doing a farm visit to us at the end of the month. chodweaver, worldofceri, richardmorris and 2 others 5
RobT Posted May 6, 2018 Posted May 6, 2018 What a difference a week makes. It was too bloody cold last Sunday! Glad to see some progress was made.
Zelandeth Posted May 6, 2018 Posted May 6, 2018 Sadly I didn't get done at Bicester until quite a bit later than I'd expected so couldn't make it today. Bloody determined to make the next one though! I really need to get to properly know some folks down here...
chodweaver Posted May 6, 2018 Posted May 6, 2018 Heroic fixing and use of a Westwood garden tractor is a tonic to see!
Slowsilver Posted May 6, 2018 Posted May 6, 2018 Can't believe how easily the Honda moped started after sitting in the field for months. It has no petrol tap. Instead there is some sort of diaphragm arrangement on the tank outlet with two pipes on it. One goes to the carburettor and the other to somewhere else on the engine which appears to create a vacuum when the engine is cranked over or running and opens the fuel feed to the carb. When the engine stops the petrol feed is automatically cut off.Fixed the split petrol pipe, kicked it over just once to check for leaks and it started!Don't claim to be any sort of motorcycle expert but I have never come across this arrangement before. Simple and cheap but very effective. Disappointing that we failed to achieve the desired result with the Alfa and the other moped, but at least we had some fun and the grass got cut. eddyramrod 1
hairnet Posted May 8, 2018 Posted May 8, 2018 most japanese carbs have done this for 40 years lancia visit epic fail double booked myself and it says 4 hours from wales to lancia show point on the sunday annoyed as looking forward to it
wuvvum Posted May 8, 2018 Posted May 8, 2018 Yep, my Spacy has the same arrangement (although that's a mere stripling at only 34 years old), as does my modern Chinese thing.
