Six-cylinder Posted June 24, 2024 Author Posted June 24, 2024 @Andyrew visited this afternoon and said he would fix something for me so I gave him a list 3 pages long! He choose my Morris 1300 which had started to misfire again, particularly after roundabouts. We cleaned the float chamber which was not bad, topped up the damper oil. Put in new plugs, HT leads and cleaned the points. It is great to win sometimes, not one misfire now. UltraWomble, worldofceri, LightBulbFun and 10 others 13

Six-cylinder Posted July 15, 2024 Author Posted July 15, 2024 Today @Andyrew came over for a coffee and as usual I was in a better position by the time he left. First he fitted a battery to the Mercedes E320 Coupe I had, as the original one failed over the weekend. Then we went to storage to try and open the bonnet on the Renault 4 that has defeated me for 3 months. Andyrew performed the Heimlich Manoeuvre on the Renault and the bonnet popped open! Well not quite he just identified which knob opened the bonnet and which one adjusted the heater air direction! Mrs6C, Snake Charmer, adw1977 and 12 others 3 12

Oof, at least you can see where it's leaked pretty clearly. I'd say likely the head was warped but know you had them checked. Worth making absolutely sure the block is flat before anything goes back together. Let's hope it was just something daft but annoying like a flake of rust that settled in the wrong spot while it was being assembled that was responsible for it not sealing properly. egg 1

I have never previously had the heads off. The problem stems from a rubber hose that runs cooling water through the oil filter housing leaking. Unfortunately I was on the A41 dual carriageway and by the time the temp gauge told me there was something wrong I still had 2/3 mile to get to a safe place to stop as there is no hard shoulder. The AA man put a hose on, but it was pumping water out of the header tank.

Ignore me then! Hopefully it will all be good with everything cleaned up, light skim if needed and fresh gaskets. Six-cylinder 1
