Is Liana a dirty word?

They do look good, sadly like women you're better off steering clear of the good looking liabilities that are likely to go mental and embarrass you; and stick with a more average, reliable model.

When I agreed to look after my good friends used car business for a few weeks last year while he went on holiday, his parting words were "Don't take any Renault Laguna's in part ex! tell them to fuck off!" These cars are apparently utter shit.....

Renault Laguna is also an anagram of Anal Aunt Gruel. I know this cos I just went on a Google anagram maker.

Jesus wept.

I dread to think what people searching for "Anal Tuna Gruel" will think when they stumble upon this thread.

The diesel donkey in that era of Primea is Nissan not Renault, but thats all I know.

Hi,
It's just the Laguna 2 that is known for granading itself.

My dad got more than 300tkm out of his 1999 dti without any problems. My brother and I both have a year 2000, 2L 16V estate. Both have not broken down once.

Just avoid any large Renault between 2000 and 2006... Same applies to the Espace which is reliable with the introduction of the 2.0 dci - and a moneypit before, especially in diesel form.

Those Primeras seem just as rubbish too and were a pretty rare sight round here even when new. Can only even remember being in a taxi and it seemed utterly knackered.

I just tried. Strangely safe results, none of which were this one.

Even did the unthinkable and clicked on images and not even anything rude came up. Dissapointed.

I drove one of those Primeras, it was a 1.8 pez IIRC and it felt shite to drive. It was ex motoability to be fair.

I think those Primevils are about as popular second hand as a fart in a space suit.

I got the following snippet of information:

Do you enjoy the taste of tuna? If you answered yes to that question, there’s a very large chance that you actually enjoy the taste of many bizarre and exotic imposter ‘fake tuna’ fish types that have been peddled and mislabeled by the seafood industry and restaurants alike  even a ‘snake mackerel’ fish linked to side effects like anal oil leakage.

Shitty oil leakage.... Suddenly we've gone full circle to modern Renaults.

So the Rover is currently sat on axle stands whist my lad is changing a slippy clutch - if the rain holds off thats tomorrows fun, the 206 has been moved onwards and Ive got my eye on a Kalos - actually I had my eye on a punto but the clutch is fuct and I CBA with faffing with that, shame as it looked nicer than the Kalos.

Interweb seems to suggest they are reliable if slow and boring, anything I should look for?

Tis not for me tis for a female relly.

Posted

Kalos ? Like a Tesco Value Corsa, only slightly worse.

I would*.

Kalos are basically Astra mk3/Corsa 1.2 running gear, simple to work on. I understand they can suffer from OMGHGF because their (usually) elderly owners drive everywhere in 2nd. I'm not sure anything from the Matiz will fit it either. I wanted one for myself but lack of boot space put me off. Get one with the 1.4 and a bodykit if you like that sort of thing.

Into the 3rd week of having issues with a Matiz at work- 29,000 miler minter, but the electrics have done a Renner and the bill is nearly a monkey and a half so far. Got a specialist coming out on Monday to extract an injector out of a Vivaro - we had the entire weight of the van hanging off it overnight and it didn't budge...there has been mention of drilling it out :o It's been a shitty week all in all. DO NOT BUY A POST 2000 DEEZIL.

On the upside, our Megane Coop passed its test with flying colours today, it's a bloody good car!

Shame to hear that. Amongst most of the grey porridge on the roads, these look quite funky from the rear.

I had a Kalos briefly.  Not an unpleasant thing to pootle around in, apart from a dreadful gearchange.  Surprisingly good ride for a modernish small car, although the flip side was that it wallowed about a bit in corners.  Fuel economy was average rather than brilliant - probably a result of the ageing engine.  The most pathetic horn of any car I've owned though - it would have embarrassed a Honda Melody.

Shame, Im negotiating on a monster mile Focus at the moment, looks rather nice but is about £800 over budget and IMHO what its worth too. Has the 18TDCi donkey and a full service history.

Posted

Right. Kalos too dear, Focus too dear, Liana in budget and not too far away similar in size to the Focus which earns it points and five doors which also earns it points.

Also for extra kudos points its beige.

Interweb says boringly dependable but with suspension or alternator woes ( I can cope with them) Fuel economy seems a little grim but interestingly the Suzzy M series engine seems quite interchangeable between cars so different donkey sizes can be simply dropped in without any faffing with ECU's or engine mounts. Im presuming its a belt cam ( negotiating POWAH for dropping the price a bit), but oddly cant find any info about it.

Am at work where eVilbay is banned. Not another Kettle is it? Ive already got one.

I think it's a chain driven cam, searching for 'Suzuki Liana cambelt' only brings up options for a diesel version not sold here.

Finally buried in the depths of LiEpedia

The M16A type engine uses a chain cam instead of a cam belt.
