Moderns: What Would You Have?

I'm not into those ecoboost engines. I bet they're great out the box but in 5 years time in something as Lardy as a focus I'm not so sure.

Ecoboost may be hot shit but at 17k for a fiesta they can fookin do one! Like any consumer durable, once there's loads about the price will come down..my opinion is that diesel will fade away and everyone will have tiny capacity turbo petrol engines in a few years.

The outgoing Transit, well outgone now.  Just like this, SWB, plain white, low roof.  I suspect it's impossible to get a petrol engine, and wouldn't hold out much hope for a proper gearbox either, but the diesel/manual I'm currently driving daily is perfectly adequate for round-town use.  Who the fuck needs SIX gears?

I'd have a hybrid car, also (good job I have extremely thick skin) I do really like my son's Corsa D and I'm hoping to have it within the year as I'll take the payments over and give him a bit on top if required.

Moderns are all much of a muchness, it's to be expected really, so I would pick based on aesthetics.  For that reason I'd likely go for a VW Up! or a Vauxhall Adam.

Actually, that's not true, I'd probably get myself a Hindustan Ambassador.  They follow that fine tradition of facelifting and modernising* a vehicle that was produced before my parents were born and that appeals to me very much.  I bet they're bloody dreadful.

You can get a 2.3 Pez version of that transit with LPG. Pretty rare though.

Is that sign on the door aimed at passengers?

Current shape Astra 1.6 petrol. Not a bad car at all.

Under 3 years old/any price - current 5 Series

Or one of the last Alfa 159's registered.

Just to throw another Skoda into the mix; the local emporium are offering the 1.roomster 1.2 TSE at a mere £9995 (saving just over £4k :o It is well equiped compared to some of the tiddlers that cost a couple of thousand less, and for bonus future-shite pints it has a mighty 69bhp to shove it along, so could rival a 1984 Daihatsu Charade auto in the traffic lights grand prix and looks as if the front end of one car has been welded onto the back end of another.

This is the best that I could find for £10k though, so the argument for the £500 shed remains watertight.

That skoda rapide thing is the dullest looking car on the road . It should be called vag shared platform transportation device b2.

I wouldn't be taking it on motorways.  My question stands. :-D

I like six speed gearboxes 'cause top is where it should be.

Anyway use 1 - 3 - 5 or 2 - 4 - 6 and it's like having a choice of three speeders.

But I would rather my Van was a proper automatic.

Just under 6 miles to work, no motorway and no dual carriageway on the way. I use 6th for half the journey in, and probably 5/6ths on the way home, when I want to save fuel or just take my time.

The other times I 'make like a Vectra' and drive it in accordance with taxi-driver-on-New-Years-Eve rules.

Unfortunately due to a failure of the fingers the word 'Roomster'  mysteriously disappeared from my last post(now added), so it doesn't really make any sense:( I have never seen a Notveryrapid in the metal, but it sounds as if the styling, for want of a better word, is actually boring rather than bonkers, which is a shame.

Skoda (the scrapyard dog) Superb DSG.

I do understand that trying to explain the virtues of the VAG groups finest gearbox to a forum of men, 50% of whom think having a synchronized first gear is witchcraft, is akin to trying to teach my cat card tricks.

Probably a petrol Octavia vRS, or Mondeo/Mazda 6 petrol, as they are much better value s/h than diseasels.

Although my mum's Doblo is a useful tool, one of the new shape ones would be ok, spec as simple as possible as less to break. Or maybe a Tourneo Connect, if they did them up to the end of the first shape one.

I have driven a few new cars  over the last couple of years, a bmw535d, pug 307 (most horrid thing ever), golf mk5 with dsg, 08 mazda 6 1.8 petrol slow as fuck and harsh ride, 14 plate skoda octavia diesel (today) and not once was i thinking i like this. Am i sick? Not even the 535d with its accelaration thrilled me. Thats why for me i couldnt give an answer to the question, id rather buy 20 £500 shitters instead, yes i know All new cars ar shitz.

I like my shite cars and am wedded to them.  I am not interested in moderns under any circumstances.  However......there are other issues and I am astonished to see Nissan Leafs at 10K within the timescales of this listing.  I am not totally convinced that electric cars are 'the answer' but they might have their place.  So that is my answer.

I almost found the answer for Junkman, designed in 1986 and still available new for $5000 plus transport from Iran we have the SAIPA 131, unfortunately it does not come in Baddermatic flavour and the minimum wholesale order is 3 cars

http://ir108281916.fm.alibaba.com/product/800025298-800000795/SAIPA_131.html

All the joy of a Mazda 121 / Ford Festiva / Kia Prida, built with the quality of Iranian production and the car still uses most of the original 1980's mechanical design.

You have to admire a company that still thinks 3 spoke wheel designs are the happening thing.

I don't think so. They have the normal FWD 405 now, plus some odd looking thing called a Samand which uses the fwd 405 platform.

Iran khodro made some noise about selling the paykan production line to Sudan in 2006 but I can't find any reference to it being built there.

I assume you've not driven one?

I've driven one. Decent car, handles and rides well. Not fast but okay. Vision as impaired as all moderns but well screwed together. A pleasant daily car.

Motorpoint have a 64 plate Astra 1.6 petrol auto estate with about 1300 miles on it for £10,999, sounds good value for those so inclined. White Arrow blue as well.
