I'm sure there was an imitation Moke kit car back in the 80s that looked like this, deliberately not quite right to avoid infringement of BL's design. Maybe it's based on that rather than a real Moke.

Toyota staying traditional with their new Land Cruiser, and going more retro in the styling. It looks a hell of a lot better than any Lexus.

All of the hybrid/EV renaults are called e-tech.

The Austral is a hybrid. Also available as a Nissan Qashqai e-Power.
I think it's been mentioned already, but the Scenic is returning. Funny enough, the designer left Peugeot for Renault.

Yeah, it looks a lot better than the 601 but, back at the height of the DDR, the final consumer had very little sway in consumer goods design.

More likely they had to consider the centralised allocation of raw materials, workers, energy etc. Cost of manufacture, in a command economy, would not have been the primary consideration.

I wouldn't be surprised if the 601 was chosen over the P100 because it was made from plastic, 'Duroplast', which not only freed up metal for other products, but recycled waste cotton and waste fibres from the textile industry. The DDR was very big on recycling, long before it became trendy.

There would also be a political decision - the 601 was more in keeping with the utilitarian ethic of the Workers Party, the P100 looks very western. Trabants were exported to other bloc countries so western sales (left to Wartburg) were not a consideration. Having said that I can't help thinking that the bright green 601 was more than a nod to the bright colours seen in the west in the 1970's.

I remember this being in VolksWorld back in the 1990s. It also featured in the Vintage Volkswagen Club of America magazine. The car was still a shell back then.

There is thought to be only one of these left, but rumours suggest that maybe 10 or more were built.
