Gurgel G15. Made of Plasteel. Brazilian. Not, as it first appears, a prop from a Supermarionation film.

I want to import ALL of Gurgel's weird cars.

One of my French car mags has a fairly detailed article on the Gurgel X12, I will try and find it. Defo a hardcore producer of Shite!

Anyone seen one of these It's a Ford KA+

Ooh!

I got this one - it's an Aston Martin Cygnet.

Chevy Tracker. Badge engineered and "face lifted" Vitara. You'd think the country that gave the world the Willys Jeep wouldn't have any problems making a medium SUV but apparently not. I saw one in Sainsbury's on Irish plates. From Google pics it looks like later models are Vauxhall Mokka based (I think).

A 4WD without ground clearance.

The Chinese have many an odd vehicle.

This is a Borgward.

Yes, that Borgward. The dealerships have pictures of Isabellas on the windows...

MG GS?

The dealership just out side Gravesend had one of these and a '3 parked on the pedestrian high street with a couple of flags and some bored looking chic. It didn't offend me any more or less than any other modern SUV/Cross-over.

The Seat Ateca.

Generic SUV/crossover type thing, but not the most offensive looking by far. Didn't even know of its existence until one drove past me the other day when I was walking to work.

Last night, my mind wondered to thoughts of the Subaru Vivio (as is perfectly natural, I'm sure others will agree) and a bit of searching later and I discovered THIS:

1993_ttop_kk,kw_04_b.jpg

Yes, what the world needs is a convertible version of a 4WD K-Car.

As my exploration into the world of Subaru Vivios continued, I found the customary (from the country that gave us Mitsuoka) retro version, the Vivio Bistro:

Lovely. If only they... Oh wait:

Well, that's knocked the Mitsubishi RVR Open Gear (a high performance convertible MPV) right off the top of my "niches you'd never expect to be filled" list and obscure JDM shite wantlst.

Kei cars are just fantastic aren't they? Absurd proportions and as above often stuffed with Japanese eccentricity.

Convertible Range Rover Evoques are a thing.

Not a car I didn't know about, but a range of options.post-17414-0-98009500-1479470941_thumb.jpeg

For those of you not In The Antipdes and with Bionic eyesight, Recaros were available as a factory fitted option on Fiesta and Mondeo LX and GLX in proper trim to match interior and also Scorpio. The Scorpio one isn't the usual big wing one often found in half leather, but a normal old school Recaro .

They're priced at £600 for Fiestas and £700 for Mondeo & Scorpio, although it doesn't mention if that's for a pair.

Ford Transit Courier. I had no idea.

Pardon my French, but why the actual fuck do Ford stick those ridiculous fronts on everything they currently produce? Does having a car with a Les Dawson-esque gurn on show appeal to some weirdos?

Only one car now exists and it is owned by Donald Ftrumpf, a well-known American chappie.

I thought this was Donald Trumps car?

Stick a vw or Aldi badge on it and it'd sell.

I just received a book about the French cars built from 1940 to 1946, i.e. the years when no 'Salon' took place.

It is so full of shite I've never heard of before, I shall report back in due course.

It begins with the 1941 Gregoire AFG.

Looks vaguely familiar?

Yep, that's because it morphed into the Panhard Dyna after the war.

AFG stands for Aluminium francaise Gregoire. The car was purely made from aluminium to save weight.

The bulkhead/sills/windscreen surround is one big piece of extruded aluminium casting:

Everything else is then bolted to this part.
