Any interest in some kind of track day next year?

How much is your average track day? Not talking petrol tyres repairs travel etc. Just the cost paid to the organiser/ circuit.

Isn't track day bringing some shite to a half arsed race track, break down on the fist lap in a cloud of smoke and a puddle of whatever liquid,

because something made from an alloy of unobtainium and £bumrape failed, get it towed off the premises onto a public road,

where you call the RAC for having it transported back home, vociferously denying to have anything to do with the venue?

Not sure whether this is what I want to do with my cars.

Also not sure whether I'm dependent on a track day for the RAC bit, but that's another story.

^ yes that's why I'm buying a Daihatsu Move especially. Bring summit you don't like, even trailer it!

Is a Rover 220 allowed? If so, I'm in. I'll then lend it to Joe Cleland so he can set a new track record...

I may bring my XM... Needs to be within 0.1 miles of my house though, preferably.

I will turn up in something. But if it's GT themed, I only have one car suitable (which appeared as a N\A model from GT4 onwards).

Curborough sprint track is relatively* affordable but it's very short - I was doing a full lap in 37 seconds in my C4.

Oulton Park, Rockingham or the Combe would be my suggestions.

I like the idea of random chod trying to go fast but in reality is pretty slow around a track, I am in.

Ive been told Croft is £20,000 per day for exclusive use. So even half a day with 20 cars is out of my, and I guess a lot of peoples budgets

Although £129 for an already organised event at Croft next month. Id rather get exclusive use of the track, what's everyone thoughts on that?

Can't trailer anything but count me in if the it's a million miles away.

Will just buy some crap off Gumtree

Things may have relaxed a little now but Croft were under the cosh a couple of years back for noise, they were heavily restricted what they could do. Tyre squeal from road tyres at track days doesn't sit well with the  neighbours.

*who shouldn't have moved next to a race circuit.

Agreed, but they won in court and cost the circuit £900k. IIRC.

I reckon a track day costs me about £300.

£100 for the day on track

£100 fuel - I got my 660cc Daihatsu down to 16mpg on track :D

£100 tyres

Plus money spent on preparation and repairs

Does my Rover 600 count as an Accord STD Sedan or whatever ?

Doing an organised track day in shite is always fun, the expression on that Ferrari 430 drivers face as you under steer across in front of him at 100 mph with smoke pouring from the tyres, brakes, your ears etc ,in a car worth less than he's spent having his track day rims swapped over and oil checked by his trusted 'indie' the day before,is priceless.

An exclusive AS track day could end up looking like banger racing with windows.

I have none of those cars but an AX looks a bit like a Playstation and they've got similar crash worthiness so that would be my steed of choice.

Or the Volvo and go everywhere sideways...

the major circuits oulton silverstone are owned by msv and min 199 for a trackday

done llandow on a bike its an oval with two small chicanes

snetterton is ace but not been since they changed it

oulton is lovely but expensive

knockhill would be ideal but too far

three sisters is a larf but too small

mallory good and cheap

best if turn up on organised trackday and the bin it and push out onto road is a nono if you dont live under 20 miles from the circuit in question

airfield days are good and very cheap but id prefer the facilities of a track

Llandow is tiny . OK on a small bike but can't see it being any good for cars . the lap record used to be held by a 125.

What about Mallory.? Extra points if you go into the lake

For the Scottish contingent: check out http://www.mscc.org.uk. They have their own hill climb circuit and it's an absolute cracker. They also do track days at Knockhill for £70 which is unbelievable value. I used to go in the X1/9..

Here's a run up the hill climb, slipping clutch, worn syncro on 3rd, and I didn't know the track too well!

It costs about £40 to do their track nights at the hill climb and you get endless goes. All you need is a helmet.
