Which one should I sell.. ?

Now that my father has his new smokey joe Focus he wants to sell his Golf MkIV

The problem is I could have it if I like and sell my Audi A4 and give him the money from the sale of that car.

The Golf is a gorgeous 1998 2.3 V5 Automatic with full history etc and has only done 57000 and it's pearlescent Green it also has all the bells and whistles and cleans up as new and he's had the car for a few years so I know it's been looked after, also it's chain not cambelt.

My Audi on the other hand is a 2000 1.8 Se in a really nice pearlescent deep blue which seems to flip between blue purple and black and I really do like the colour and it has also done the same amount of miles as the Golf but may have had a bit of paint in the past but drives well and does look the part.

I'm now wishing I didn't buy the A4 as I wouldn't be in this position to choose or that I never saw the Focus parked up as I wouldn't of bought that also.

So which would you choose out of the two.

VAG V5 ain't a great engine when it gets leggy.................................although on  57k it should have a few years left..170 bhp, and they are heavy.

Sell the Audi for the V5, because there ain't going to be another V5 engine and you will be able to brag about it at length when you are ancient.

Then get that V7 Pontiac smokechicken jobbie and one of those V3 motorcycles (Aprilia?) for the set.

Sell golf - it should sell because of the low mileage.

However, petrol engined golfs do not command the desirability of the diseasel - people would sooner have a TDi that has covered more miles than a UN ambassador that a low mileage petrol.

A 1998 Golf V5 has 150bhp, I think they went to 170bhp from 2000 IIRC

Keep the golf because its green, no more need be said.

Golf is rarer, you'll not find many V5s that haven't been neglected or ruined with 18" fake Audi wheels and bad tinting. Buy it, tick the box, if you don't like it you could find another Audi no bother.

Stick 'em both up for sale for 20% more than you'd be happy to take, then see which sells first.

Was a passenger in a British-registered V5 Golf. Sounded quite nice. Haven't you already got another Audi aswell?

Get rid of both of them and but an Austin Maxi.

You will never get tired of looking at it.

Get rid of it and keep the Audi.

Sorry for the late reply but I think I may sell the A4 even though it does make more sense keeping it due to it being a lot more economical than the V5.

But once my work contract finishes around Christmas I won't use a car much anyway as I normally walk into town which is when the V5 is dire on fuel.

My father wants me to have the car as he knows I will look after it plus that way I can clean it up and give it a good service plus polish out the scratches and if he wants it back he's only got to walk over the road and collect it.

But I want to offer my brother first refusal of the V5 as he wants an Automatic and being a 5 door it's ideal for getting two baby seats in and out of the back but I'm still waiting to hear back from him.

So whatever I get for the Audi I will give to my my father, so any idea on what a 2000 Audi A4 is worth with 57000 on the clock in good nick (apart from a couple of small scuffs on the bumpers).

It's the dark blue A4 and the golf if you look carefully is the green one parked up in the drive opposite.

I will keep the green A4 though as although it's in fantastic condition and low mileage (64000) I imagine it's not worth a great deal as it's now 20 years old and poverty spec.

Its only done 1 mile since it's last Mot but I guess it's only worth about £300 so my theory is it scraps for £150 so it's hardly worth the hassle of selling for £150.

Always change. The more cars you own, the more you can regret selling.
