Do I want a Citroen C15?

I'm mighty tempted by one too but can't justify owning a van so stick to estates.

I could really do with a bonnet to fix the C15 shown above,  it is very rusty under the plastic strip and it's owner keeps trying to convince me to weld it's frilly remains together.

I have a Visa one for sale without plastic. The stay is different from a van as well.

Rear axle can be a pain. Same as a 305 van. If you see any sign of camber on the rear wheels, the axle is fooked.

I'm on the third axle. First, original, 25years. Second, from a donor , 4 years. Third, recon, £300. should be the last, I hope.

And if you need to put new springs or shocks on, finding someone with the spring compressor isn't easy.

I found only one within a 50 mile radius of me.

Axle problems - zut alors - pas de problem...seen recently in France at a car show.

Wrong, with the correct kit you can change the axle bearings, it's a pain of a job unless you have the spring compressor though!

Loved mine. More torque than the escort vanand better load area but slughtly shorter. Handled fine but better with weight in back. Seats weren't great support wise either.

What happened to that poor girl?!

I've got a pretty sick fantasy about converting one of these to twin-pot running gear and a 'pig-nose' front end with early dash, trim etc. That wrecked green car would provide all the bits but it's not gonna happen unless I win the lottery

We almost bought a C15, a 1992 Romahome Campervan. Trouble there was the fact that I’m 6ft 1 and I would need to cut a hole in the side of it whenever I sleep

I've still got the mega horn for one of these. I reckon I just need to get one. It also looks like I'd be able to fit the LML inside with about -1mm to spare.

According to insurers, I live in a truly dodge part of London, and I've got no NCB since my daily is the LML and everything else in on a classic policy which means that van insurance is crazily pricy.

Footman James say that I may be able to put one on a classic policy if it's over 20 years old, anyone had any luck with that?

I tried a quote on this one as a "camper", and it came back as roughly double what I pay for classic insurance, and half of what they'd want for a "van".

Looks alright once you ditch the trims and curtains..

Yes, of course you need one. Just because.

Yes. You should be able to insure a van over 20yo with FJ. Certainly a C15. Trouble is finding one. Most for sale are younger.

Or you could buy in France - loads about ...but many worked to death.

Buy cheap in France, bring over and fix with bits from UK. Also purchase cheese and wine.

Tyre pressures are really important for happy C15 driving.

And working clutches.

With friction material.

They seem cheaper here! But yes, the wait for an early one will be much longer..

Yes. In France they are still seen as a practical tool. Loads about and very popular with farmers so prices reflect this.

I enjoyed mine loads but the brakes aren't the most confidence inspiring though - maybe that was just mine? Nice and simple design when the go wrong ????

Posted

Yes, they're ace little vans, I've had three of them. Petrol ones handle better and the brakes work. Diesels will go forever, mine had 475000 miles on it when I sold it. Brakes on diesels do work but they do need a hefty shove to stop in a hurry.

Loads about here in France, in fact I spotted an early single rear door one this morning.

My mates got a pick up that he wont sell :(

I'm a fan, I just wish I could justify another. I bought mine on here and sold it on here, in the few months I owned it, it did loads of trips down to my sister who was moving house, undertook loads of tip runs saving a fortune in skips. I reckon the saving in fuel by using it instead of the Land Rover saved me another few hundred pounds. Everybody should own one at some point

Of course you want a C15. They are what you find at the end of the rainbow...

Van de Pomme says hurry up and get one and then you can bring it to the Visa 40th Anniversary Rally in September! :-)
