Managed to secure the purchase of this incredible piece of japanese bilge, a Datsun Stanza SALOON!

Ever since seeing Hirsts stanza saloon (Is he still here?) i really wanted one and came across this by chance, 40000miles, some frilly bits but solid.

Hirsts one, whatever happened to it?

Was slated by motoring journalists due to its OMGFWDDRIFTZ, understeer then snap oversteer.

Will be picking it up at the end of the week, thats two jap minicabs i own now/

You will literally be fed up with women throwing their underwear, phone numbers and marked up sex novels at you.  Excellent work!

Double the Stanzas..........

Nice.

Original dealer sticker on rear screen and speaker boxes on the back shelf, too.

Class. A T11 Stanza is one of the few Datsuns I have never owned or even driven. I strongly suspect they are probably much better than they are given credit for. If a 3 door one ever turns up I'll be all over it.

If that's the case, then think twice before taking a look at this mega spot of former member Brammy:

That's lovely! Nice colour too.

I used to do a bit of work on a hatch one of these for an old boy when I was in the garage. It was in a metallic red colour. Like all the best cars it was an auto aswell! I used to love it but he wouldn't part with it. Not seen the car or it's owner for a few years now though unfortunately.

I always found it drove easily as well as any of the similar cars in its class, better then a lot even. Wtf do motoring journalists know about cars anyway? They only care about how many cup holders it has and then race it around a runway then wonder why it couldn't do that as quickly as the latest Ferrari!

Did they do an estate version? Or was that only when the Bluebird replaced the Stanza?

I have to say I was quite impressed with how mine drove.  Felt very solid and planted, and never really gave me any sign of the terminal roll oversteer that they're supposed to be afflicted with.  The wider wheels and modern tyres may have helped somewhat though.  Don't get me wrong, it was no Alfa 156 on a twisty B-road, but it was nowhere near as bad as the contemporary road tests had led me to fear.  Bloody good on fuel too.

No, not in the T11 Stanza or in the T12/T72 (which we got badged as a Bluebird) The Estate that was sold alongside the T72 here was actually the previous U11 model of Bluebird. Prior to the T11 there were estates in that series but not badged as Stanzas IIRC. Confused yet?

The model series goes like this...

1st generation badged only as Violet - 710 model

2nd generation badges Violet, Auster or Stanza - A10 model

3rd generation badged as Violet, Auster or Stanza - T11 model

4th generation badges as Stanza or Auster (only as a Bluebird in Europe) - T12 (or T72 if UK built)

The first two generations came as estates but not in the UK. Here these two were known as the Datsun 140J or 160J.

It's not the Whitby Stanza is it?

The Whitby Stanza; This smacks of autoshite idolatory in the mode of The Shroud of Turin or The Ex-Dollywobbler BX.

I like it.

yeah this is the one in whitby

I'll miss walking past it but I'm glad it's gone to a good home!

I'll miss parking next to it when I visit my mate over that way. Glad it's come to the fold however!

I had a red 1.6 saloon many moons ago, with those fancy KN alloys which seemed to be a Datsun accessory. All I really remember about it is that it had push button heating controls, and maroon seatbelts.

That must be one of the most uninspiring car designs ever - like a generic background car from a videogame where they don't have the rights to actual ones.

Great purchase

Thanks for all the comments guys, it retired from daily duties in june, the exhaust is blowing and i suspect they cant find another one, i just hope the underneath is ok living next to the sea.

The Ex-Dollywobbler BX.

That doesn't narrow it down much.

I had a white one with red velour. What a machine. Was faster than anything anyone else had at 17. 60 in second! Yeah baby!! I thought the handling was down to me!!

You can usually source exhausts through ebay for old Nissans, of there's a dude that does all the autojumbles who has a massive stock. I think his name is Glynn Jones and he's based in the N.W. somewhere. Might be worth a google.

Unfortunately the T11 isn't that easy to get parts for as it doesn't share it's floor pan with other models. There are some bits the same as M10 Prairies  ...engine, gearbox and I think the front brakes. There's a new model Service Bulletin that has a lot of that type of info in it. They are quite useful things to have. Here's one but it's in French...

Wow - 'Datsun Violet'. That was one car from my youth that I had completely forgotten about. Thanks for the trip down memory lane! :)

'Coz we were there!

I had an amazing drive in a brand new, rented, automatic one of these; from Cheltenham to Gateshead and back in a day including whatever it was I went up there to do.

It was raining hard, man that thing could understeer! Comfy though.

**The only other Nissan I have ever driven was a hired Vanette, also to Tyneside somewhere.
