I hope she's leaving the flag.

Aye should go down a treat in the valleys. .

Seriously though I have a hankering for a mid 90s rover 400 estate in white. This does not help matters. .

Enjoy Mr et Mrs wobbler

Jesus. 9 pages and you buy a knackered 416 with stickers on it?

And this surprises you? I recon that might turn out to be a nice buy when it's all cleaned up

is it a GSi?

It surprises me how DW can consistently find the worst example of any given marque or model, yes.

It's a union flag not an English one. Celebrate the union. We scots do. ;-)

The flag is coming off. It has unfortunate UKIP/BNP connotations. I've removed the grille too, only to discover that the correct plastic one is not there and there are now lovely holes in the bonnet. I guess I'll be refitting it for now then (it had to come off to remove the stickers anyway).

I made a call yesterday. That call was to not get the train home. That meant buying something in The Midlands ASAP. Couldn't be too choosy, though I did still reject that shitheap 620 diesel!

Well bought. We had a 416Si on a K plate in the family until recently. Lovely old thing but the lack of power steering was a bit of a killer.

This has PAS. LUXURY! Sadly, the pump seems quite noisy. Maybe I should check the level...

Also seen it. Reminds me of a certain BX estate.

Sub 500, midlands, yesterday and you missed the odd looking mid 80's nissian Sunny that's on gumtree.

Shame on you DW, shame on you.

Anyway the Rover is funky and no doubt, you will be back to buy something else next month.

Had an M-reg 414i Sprint 16v back in the day and it was GR12; it was torched, most irritatingly AFTER I'd had the head gasket done.

Well done M. Wobbleur, looking forward to seeing this de-twatted.

Tricky. Crack the rotary polisher out. Best of luck.

That sheep is staring at me.

Hopefully all the stickers will have protected the paint! Why was it twatted in the first place?

Mrs DW hates banger rally graphics.

It went on a 'Benidorm or Bust' run. I can hardly complain given what I did to a certain BX for a banger rally.

Well if it made that and returned home then it's obviously passed the test!

This makes me angry. It is our national flag and will only be hijacked by the right wing if we allow it to be. If you don't want a union flag on your car, that's up to you, but don't use some sort of national embarrassment as the reason.

Just to save any further waiting...

I'd say it was the St. George's Cross that the right wing mentals have corrupted, but I know what DW's getting at. Plus, Wales.

Same here. The Nationalists up here seem to think they have the right to hogg the flag.

I understand the point, Jon, but it still bugs me. And on the Wales point, would anyone (sensible) in England react negatively to a Welsh flag? Just seems we're too prepared to accept criticism rather than be rightly proud of what we have.

I'm going to leave it here, though, because I don't want to turn Dollingtons new car caper into a nationalist bitchfight.

Ps. Nice car Doll.

Anyone who buys an R8, regardless of its condition, is a first class WINNER.  This is a fact.

Should look alright cleaned up, you could do a lot worse and these do seem to have hit the bottom of their depreciation curve.

That Honda Civic I took on the rally to Spain was totally fucked by the time we got it back. The suspension was clunking and rattling like a skeletons arse cheeks. Going from giffing around doing 50 miles a month to suddenly doing 2500 miles in a week took it's toll. Hopefully this isn' the case here.

Looks OK that despite the graphics.  If it has the later seats then you should find those comfy Ian, same as wot I got in the 220.

I couldn't possibly agree more if I tried, Chris. The Union flag is NOT a banner for the racists and we (as an assembly of nations) need to make that point clear, same with the Cross of St George, or the other flags of UK countries should it come to it.

Sorry for the rant on your thread, Ian, don't forget the 'after' pictures when all the stickers have gone.

One thing I must remember - does anyone have the correct plastic grille for this car? I might have to refit the later one until I can source the proper bit. Annoyingly, someone has drilled holes in the bonnet to fit it, which have gone rusty. A decent car is trying to emerge though! I'm sure of it!

Well, I'm taking a break from sticker removal - pretty hot work! I've detailed the first part of my journey here. http://classichub.wordpress.com/2014/07/23/how-will-i-get-home-part-one-delivery/

No more details of the car in that report - just what I got up to beforehand. Now to see if I can get the glue residue off without spending any money...

For removing those stickers try a hair dryer, this worked when I had to pull a big GB sticker off the boot on my old BMW E39. Held the heat on it for about a minute then it peeled off and barely left any mark or residue.

If not then normal household fairy liquid shifts that stuff quite well.
