Weird trim levels

Recommended Posts

I keep seeing a povo-spec Nissan X-Trail on an 03 plate - red with black plastic bumpers and wheel trims!

Also spotted an 02 plate Mazda 121 - facelifted Ford Fiesta shape (weird angular front lights instead of 'sad face'.

Anyone else seen anything equally pointless on the road?

Does anyone else remember to bogo spec Escort MK5s with black bumpers and van style steelies? Next to extinct now I would think.

The almost mythical Rover Streetwise with steelies.

I discovered one recently - the Mercedes SLK 250 CDI. I just don't understand why anyone would possibly spend 35k on a two-seater sports car powered by a filth-belching oil-burner that sounds like a tractor. And it's only available as an auto for extra driving pleasure*

They do exist! I've seen a yellow one doing school run duties. That makes it a legend, not a myth by the way. Yes, the Rover Streetwise on steelies is legendary.

01 to 05 civic E. Didn't even have a radio . I've never seen one and I spent 7 years in a Honda dealer.

I think they didn't really exist but were on the list so they could say "from 8995 " or some such bollocks

My cousin had one of those poverty misery spec Scrote Mk5's on a 3 door, that shockingly was silver. Bought it brand new. It was pinched and stripped. Feck only knows why, as it was so poverty spec'd. IIRC it wasn't even fitted with a 5 speed box either

I had a Granada ghia coupe with a 2.0 engine , 4 speed manual and no pas, also a manual stag without overdrive and ive never seen the same spec on either model scince.

i saw a bmw change lane earlier using indicators i didnt even think they fitted them

Just look at the number of Audi TDi convertibles you see around. Always white as well, because individuality matters

....Next you'll be telling us you've seen an Audi traveling a safe distance behind the vehicle in front

Fraud also did similarly spec'd base model Fiestas too. I remember Henry Boot Training having a fleet of dizzlers in blue, didn't even have a radio in

I don't think there's chance of that one as audi drivers are the new BMW drivers

Did early base spec Rover 600s have black bumpers or did I just dream it?

Yes to early black bumper Rover 600s. Only for a year or so though.

I had a R plate K11 Micra 'Shape' so called because the only decal on the back was the little bubble car logo. No rear wash/wipe or airbag, pretty mingebag for 1997.  It was a delightful shade of purple as well.

I too have seen a Rover Streetwise on steelies, they are pure sex. Most pointless/rare Rover 200/25 variant must be the MG ZR van, were they really called the Express or did I just make that up?

One type of car which seems to have disappeared which I rather liked was the big car/big engine/base trim combo.

Think Granada 3 litre Ls and some of the late 70s big BMWs & Mercs with keep fit windows and the like. Why do they assume that just because I like a big car with a bit of power that I also want air conditioned mudflaps and three position memory electronic sun visors?

Omegas were excellent for this - not just ex-police ones, there were quite a few early ones floating around with cloth seats and no aircon.

The haulier my Dad used to work for had a brace of Ford XRV vans, the only two I've ever seen.

(They also had a pair of Iveco Cargo Shadow Specials on the fleet, mmmmmmmmmmm)

My very early rover 620i had keep fit windows in the back, trims on the wheels and rear seats that did'nt drop down.

Any excuse to mention The Grey Grille Base Sierra.

Also, there are loads of MK3 Escorts, usually barn finds, that are advertised as Base, but they're not proper ones. The correct model has a different dash, with no central face level vents, no central radio speaker and vinyl seats without headrests.

Oh god that Grandad with a 2.1 lump must have been utter misery. Ford also did a 'taxi spec' base model Sierra 2.3D on the mk1 too it seems. Friends of the family ran a fleet of em in the early 80's as minicabs in Leeds, they were plain white, with the flappy mirrors and even had the black grille. AR did a similar thing towards the end of the Montego era too, I remember AB Cars of Kippax having a fleet of late model poverty spec Montego dizzlers in white, looked to be the same spec as MOD plod
