I heard Jimmy Hill suggested changing Coventry City's name to Coventry Chrysler as one of his ideas for sponsorship but it wouldn't have gone down well with the FA.

Routemaster style bus is considerably narrower than a modern one - and IMHO so much nicer to ride in

The bus above is an AEC Regent which is 7'6"" wide. It's far closer related to the RT, the predecessor to the Routemaster which was 8' wide. The new Routemaster is 8' 3 1/4" wide.

As for ride quality, I'd take a modern bus with air suspension over the one above with its cart springs. Routemasters were though a massive improvement over the Regent as they had coil springs.

Modern buses rattle so much.

Cars are now wider! My Daf 33 shoots through width restrictions around my town which I crawl through in my Subaru. I am also of the opinion that driving standard are not what they used to be, but that's a whole new discussion....

Pavements are often wider these days, because pedestrians have got wider too.

Is it because modern cars are much wider or have roads got narrower. Or is it because they now have cars parked all along both kerbs that you lose the perspective?

Never mind that, I can't stand drivers who straddle the centre line of the street even when they've got plenty of room on their side. I'm pretty sure I once knocked off someone's door mirror as we passed.

I think Ford supplied Cortinas to the 1966 World Cup squad.

Much better than the Ferraris and such like that footballers now drive.

This is a great thread, I am really enjoying the pictures from artdjones of Cardiff.

Bargoed Hill. At least 1 in 8, some of it at 1 in 4.25, and with two right angled bends. It feels strange to get a car up there, let alone a bus.

I looked at the road on Googlemaps & it seems every bit as steep. Much of the properties on the right of the black and white picture have been demolished over the years, though.

This is a particularly frustrating pic.  1963 Manchester.  Who owned the Caddy?
