I'm not even sure it still works - it was in its "case logic" carry case ( remember them?)

I am thinking of putting it into my VDP EFi - i still have it's original unit, however it no longer works.

It was by far the best radio cassette i have ever had - i bought it new in 1993.

Any body else still have a radio cassette?

Pics or it did'nt happen.

I bet that would make decent coin on eBay, £50+ I bet, possibly substanitally more if you test it and find its functional still

More modern than my old ANSS Sharp. Looks confusing - why all the buttons and where's the tuning needle and dial?

That was a pretty good stereo in its day, I had one in my Clio yonks ago. With a set of JBL 6x9s in the rear shelf it sounded damn good.
Current ride has a recent Alpine CD thing in it but the Saab I had a couple of years back had the original Sony unit which was suitable shite, and my old VX Royale still had its original Philips 'Turn-o-lock' unit from the late 70s in it, feeding into one speaker in the centre of the dash and two in the rear shelf.

I remember buying a boogo standard sharp with ANSS in the summer of 1990 - i paid about £40 for it which went into my royale. That bit the dust, it then went into a mk v tina, then into my first SD1. I think it went to the scrappy with the car a few years later.

Have you all taken leave of your senses?  The only hi-fi equipment in this thread should be Pye or Shan head units cabled (via tape & scotchloks) to JVC midi speakers in the boot.

I have the same radio as above ^

They're terrible. In fact the radio barely works at all. I cleaned the heads on the tape deck and that sounds grand though. I dislike non OEM stereos because you either have to take the panel with you or risk having your windows put out for a £40 "Tevion" CD player from Aldi.

MAYSTAR, you amateurs.

I still have it.  Somewhere...

The 300E has a Blaupunkt CR40.  Is this good?  I have no idea.

There was a Shakatak tape in it when I bought the car.  Ian, do you want it back?  :P

I have a cassette player in my Mk3 Astra,. which I use everyday.

And as a result, I've dug out old cassettes, David Bowie and Thin Lizzy especially.  Awesome (as I beliieve they say these days)

Hi-Fi of win

Oh Em Gee when I first saw one of those Audiolines I was sooooo impressed that the tape actually goes through the tuning dial.

My Acclaim had an analogue-tuned Saisho with a digital readout. On-off switch was knackered so there was a toggle wired in, and it caught fire once or twice. Apart from sounding appalling it was pretty good.

When i met my other half she had a roadstar item in her capri - it was pretty good, but i had never heard of them before or since.

Remember the cheap shit from the far east - "shan" and "shibuya"?

Factory Fit one in the X Type (2005), cd changer in the boot.

Other pic: top one was given to me out of pity by my mate from his scrapyard. I say pity because the one that came with the Rover, a VDO, was utter shit from day 1.This  Blaupunkt is a very good wee wireless, nice and loud.

Bottom one was OEM in my 1998 C280 SpurtOMGAMG. Not a very good radio: not loud enough and it keeps saying "KEYCARD!" even when the card is in. I reckon if the display had more lines in it, it would have said "KEINE SCHLUSSELKARTE BRITISCHER SCHWEINHUND! HANDE HOCH!". I said to it "For you the war is over", and replaced with an Pioneer CD Tuner from EAMF.

VW Polo up to late 2004/early 2005 had one, not a bad radio actually, there's one in the mother's Polo.

IIRC it's a Blaupunkt jobbie.

I think that's the same one in the MK IV golf and have to admit the sound quality is fantastic and fits up to a CD changer that I've never tried in my fathers car..

I bought one of thesepost-9282-0-80908300-1401223011_thumb.jpg Panasonic CD players for £8 in as new condition 4 years ago for my old A4 and the sound quality is fantastic with no distortion whatsoever..

I can say it's the best sounding radio I've had in a car and I can honestly say it's the best 8 quid I've ever spent.

I think Golfs got the Gamma - wsame radio but ith Dolby NR. (That reminds me, I saw an 06 plate MkVI estate the other day...)

The 'CD' button does imply that there's potential to fit a CD changer, and I have seen it done. There's a space for it in Polos under the radio, on one of the Golf or Pisshat it's in the centre console by the handbrake, sideways...

My Almera has a Blaupunkt radio cassette which is half decent, however what makes it 110% awesome is the hearing aid beige tape-to-3.5mm-jack gizmo which allows me to plug my mobile telephonic communication device in, gaining CHOONS as well as DIY hands-free. I was literally gobsmacked when my phone rang and it played the ringtone and audio through the car speakers and automatically went onto loud speaker so they could hear me too.

Twenty First century, right there.

And it plays radio 4 too.

I could do with getting hold of the proper sized belt of the PYE tape deck that came with the Princess that I'd like to reinstate.  We did get the smallest belt we could but it's just a tiny bit too big so tapes sound even more appalling on it than you might expect.

I might have poor recollections of this but IMO the sound from 90s tape players sounded better than the CD/mp3 head units in modern cars.

My old man had an Orion with an OEM "Ford Dolby Digital" cassette unit and a Chrysler Neon with an OEM Panasonic head unit both of which sounded superb, that said the OEM Blaupunkt CAR300 in our mk3 Astra sounded crap but did at least have good speakers as they sounded excellent when I later mated a Pioneer DEHP70BT to it.

Recent Vauxhall and Renault stereos are the worst IMO, every one I've had has sounded shit.

Both of mine have cassette decks; a circa 1997 Blaupunkt Melbourne in The Volvo and a circa 1992 OEM Volvo unit in The Wentworth:

I'm currently thinking about the fitting a circa 2000 Blaupunkt Ontario I have knocking around to the latter, providing that I can get it refurbished.

Does anyone know of anyone who can refurbish Blaupunkt head units at a reasonable cost?

I remember seeing Roadstar head units in Halfords in the early 1990s.

I have a period cassette player in my 76 Capri and have accumulated a half decent collection of period tapes for it.

Just need the Aviators and Ford rallye jacket to complete the picture!
