I shall wear my yellow trousers for the occasion.

I should have no trouble finding you, then, and shall hail you when I do.

I, for the most part, will be in the thick of the old Austins, smoking my pipe. I really hope it's a nice day, as sitting in the car in the rain is no fun. It's also wise to get there reasonably early, as it's quite a que to get in later.

It was horribly cold last year and properly grim. Just how Birmingham should be. (says a Brummie)

Ooh, I had no idea this was so soon.  I'll be a tentative depending on what else comes up, the mighty 220 should hopefully be taxed and back on the road by then although it will be looking horrible as I haven't yet sorted the paintwork.

I may head down in my boring new shite.
Depending on two things:
1) If work call me in
2) How many ££ for DERV i have

I'm a possible if the weather isn't shit, will be in the 416. Haven't yet fixed the sticky rear caliper but the car is still driveable so a gunning up the M40 might help free it up!

Assuming I can get the 220 sorted in time, what's the procedure?  Never been there before, the website doesn't make it totally clear but I'm assuming you don't need to be a member of a car club to get in?  Do you just turn up on the day?

Yup. Just turn up. No entry fee, barely any designated parking (though the modern Rovers always seem to gang together), barely any organisation - which is a good thing. It's massively informal and really just a load of cars in a field.

Extra entertainment last year came when MG's inflatable stand suffered a generator fault, and promptly collapsed.

Darn, out of town next weekend or I would have turned up in the datsun to remind them what it looks like when a car is built to be reliable. (Not that it is)

If I take the BINI will I die an un-natural and painful death ?

Posted

If parked outside it will 'probably' be fine. Non BMC/BL/Rover stuff is just parked outside the park, opposite the factory if you get there early, or just anywhere about otherwise. There are enough Cowley folk going, I can't imagine a Bini is that offensive anymore.

Yes. Infact there is a well-established procedure. First your car will be towed away by an Austin K9, then you will be blinded by a dazzling array of sealed-beam Lucas headlamps, before being set upon by a mob wielding Morris Oxford propshafts. Then you will be drowned in a vat of boiling EP90. The rally will then continue, as if nothing happened.

I have no working Princesses so I shan't be there.  Just like last year.  Seems fitting somehow.

Posted

The last two years I've turned up in a foreign car and completely failed to bump into any shitters.  This year all my cars are knackered so I'm not coming.

Shiny new V5 turned up yesterday, car is now taxed so I will be there, hopefully it'll be as nice there as it is here today, warm and sunny.

The only bit that I don't believe is the "dazzling" array of Lucas Lights.

On a more serious note, it will be good if you can make it as it is a nice, informal rally.

What are people's thoughts on an Autoshite rendezvous, or are folks happy wandering round? It would be nice to put a few names to faces. Or we could even turn it into an Autoshite 'where's Wally?'

I bet the head gasket failed......

Well I don't really know what everyone looks like apart from Dollywobbler but you won't see another 200 there with a fetching three-tone white/dark grey/primer paint job so if I'm not wandering around the site feel free to come and say hello, it's always good to meet fellow shiters.

I might pop in at some time. Look out for the fat bastard wandering aimlessly around.

Showing up at the PoL with a BL somehow feels wrong.

I can't pinpoint it, but it feels wrong, somehow.

I should take the Mitsubishi, no?

I'm going to try and get to this as I would like to take Rover down, and then come back two of us with my Micra.
