rover 213s update

Jesus allanfromwales that is a terrible thing to happen, what is the dealers name or business called?

Posted

Amazing how people will look you in the eye and blag you for the sake of 1-2 hundred quid. Integrity aside, I find it astonishing they think it's worth the grief.

This happened locally to a not particulary nice person who ripped someone off with a cheap, crap car a few years back. He answered the door at midnight and got a hammer in his face for his troubles we were told.

Sadly, honesty seems to have long since flown the nest for some people and I hope you get something back out of it, Allan.

That really is shit. Without getting all new age about it, I think there is some truth in karma. He'll get his I'm sure.

I bet he kept saying once it's off his driveway 'I don't want nuffin to do wiv it', double negatives 'n' all.

I contacted V8Scania about this, but there was an hour left on the ebay auction, and I thought that was it. He said if he gets let down by the buyer, he'll contact me. And sure enough, he was let down by the buyer (saying that he could only travel 20 miles due to 'sickness'). I travelled to Kettering station (which is only about 40 miles from work, but the train took me to Birmingham New Street, then to Leicester, and then to Kettering - a three hour journey, and over 100 miles!).

My dad has been going on for a while about one of these (he had two - both were handed down to me), so after missing out on one for sale recently, this would probably be my last chance to get one.

It needs a clutch (these go for around 20 pounds on ebay - which I've just bought ;) ) and a few interior bits tidying up, but made the 40 miles home no trouble.

There's hardly any rust. Does anyone know what colour these are?

WIN! Glad it's staying in the family. Pride of Longbridge? Rarely more than one or two SD3s there, and never beige!

Well in Station, hats off.

I'm pretty sure that it's Eastbourne Racing Beige

I agree with AD on this one, though I was under the impression that Champagne was discontinued in the very early eighties and replaced with Rattan which is more yellow, which this Rover isn't.  One massive advantage of Champagne beige is that it will show you rust before it's a terminal concern, but this is also its biggest disadvantage.

EDIT:  I'm marginally disappointed that it has a VDP reg and isn't a VDP.

No idea...but in my case I travelled 6 hours on train, which was 60, paid 350 for the car, 76 on road tax, 26 day insurance, then it broke down half a mile from sellers house...who did not say he was a motor trader until I googled his phone number. Then 70 on train back up, 40 on night's stay. Lastly the "old folks home" he recovered it from have confirmed the fuel pump (or blockage as it turned out) was there when he received it. He put it on his driveway at his house and knew full well it wouldn't go far (the words from his mouth: : As soon as it's off my drive I don't want to know about it"). Not what I wanted to hear as he totally changed his tune when I arrived. I can't do small claims but I will do everything I can do dissuade everybody against buying from him.

Any details on this trader so no one else here can fall fail?

Excellent. They sold more of these than the Maestro/Montego some years, although the survival rate is minimal compared to even those paragons of longevity. I'll buy you a hot drink of your choice if you fit the clutch and get it to PoL!

I will try and get it down, although I did buy it for my pa, and I work close to Birmingham but will have to go home on Friday night. I had my first incident tonight - left the lights on and now sitting waiting for the AA to give me a jump!

No 'lights bleeper' will result in lots of 'Bleep, Bleep, Bleep...' language!!

really need to sort one on my Savv..  :-P

Tim Burt motors of Rushden

107 NEWTON ROAD, RUSHDEN, NORTHAMPTONSHIRE, NN10 0HJ

I'm assuming that was the ebay name Allanwales dealt with

He's obviously moved on from making films with Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter in, to fukking people about for a few quid here and there on old motors

No hills nearby?

I was on a hill! Unfortunately at the bottom facing upwards. AA was due to arrive around 8.30, 2.5 hours away. Jumped it with Astra and got off. AA still haven't rung to say they're down the road.

AmAzing AA update -

phoned AA at 6pm

Call centre fella says he will be out by 7pm.

Wait until 7pm, get a call saying the fella will be here at 8,3pm at the very latest.

Did what I did above (buy jump leads and do it myself)

Was getting into bed at 11pm. I get a phone call from the AA apologising saying the fella would 'only be' another 15 minutes ('only' 3 hours behind schedule). I explain that I wasn't going to be sitting there for 5 hours and to ram it.

Get a phone call from the bloke with the truck just after 12pm asking where I was.

Yes, it's strange. Rattan Beige is rare, and the only cars I've seen it on have been a couple of Y reg Maestros and an A reg Ambassador. However I've seen Champagne Beige on all sorts of BL stuff, from roughly 1980 to about 1986/7 I think. Either they had Rattan and Champagne running at the same time (but discontinued Rattan after a year or so as it was unpopular), or they discontinued Champagne and brought it back in 1984, because they were WINNERS.

Isn't this one the same colour?, I was eyeing it up last year at a local car show.

Obviously Champagne Beige has magic rust proofing qualities, judging by the number of survivors in that shade.

That is a little bit darker than my one!

Got pulled over tonight by the police. No big problem, he commented on how nice it has been preserved. Must be aware of it's structural qualities.

Also took it into a car wash. :)

I'm curious as to why Allanwales didn't leave Mr. Burt a nice juicy negative feedback.  Surely that would be the most effective way to stop people buying from him?

Bollocks!

A Loving* glance back at the car will ensure realisation of lightonnery-least thats how it works with my 320:)

.... agreed. My lights are a twist on the indicator stalk. Parking + Illumination errors have been known to happen :(

Midsummer, not October, likely of course.

Vx 'knob on dash' I'd prefer :)

I found out yesterday, it does have a lights on bleeper. I wiggled a couple of relays and it must've awoken it!

As said above, I bought this for my pa. He has a Ford Mondeo, and has been going on for months about having one of these again. He even had me dig the Hayne's manual out of the loft.

When he found out I could easily acquire a 213, he was 'ecstatic', and said he would have it and I could sell his Mondeo to recoup the difference.

I drove it home, only to find out he wasn't entirely serious in his claims - and even after he reluctantly had a drive, his advancing years meant he found it difficult to get in and out and even see over the steering wheel properly (so he hasn't even driven the car). He did say it looked lovely, but apart from that he hasn't shown any interest in it. Christ almighty.

I have also been 'pining' for one of these for years, but working so far away and having so many other cars would mean I'd never use it and it would sit next to my Micra doing nothing, so I'm putting it back up for sale.

Does anyone want it now? I have given the interior a proper clean, washed, polished and waxed the interior, and put new fuses in (it was missing interior lights, etc).

I have also bought a brand new clutch as the pedal was high, and I'm not sure if it was slipping. Either way I'll fit it before sale, and also change the oil (I still have an oil filter my dad bought from the 90's!). V8scania sorted the silted fuel tank problem before me and it runs excellent.

Come and look at it if you want to check for faults, as there's nothing else wrong with it. It's on ebay at the end of the today - PM me for further details - serious interest only, I'm going to France at the end of the week and CBA with the usual small details of not enough money/too far to travel. :)

I took some pics yesterday.
