Oh dear, I've temporarily crossed over to the dark side and bought this wonderful* car. Obviously being a VW is has nothing at all wrong with it

VW Luff the scruff polo.jpg

Nope, nothing. Oh except the throttle body. And the heater only working on one setting. And the dashboard that attempts to light every light. Or the brakes because it's stood for ages. It goes without saying it's not here to stay.

Mother has a 56 plate one with a miserably low milage.

Its actually not a bad little car and will crack a ton-ten* on private roads.

I read that as 'I'd like to buy this car off you, when can I collect it please?'

I LOLed.

BUT, I cant see you having any problems shifting this once the throttle and warning lamps are fixorated.
Heater is probably the resistor pack, but can you get one without having to buy half a dashboard to go with it?

My housemate had a 56-plate 1.4 diesel one of these as a company car, I drove it quite a lot at one point and have to admit I liked it, pleasant to drive, comfortable and felt fairly well screwed together, plus the engine had a surprising amount of power, sounded pretty good for a diesel and didn't seem to mind being revved.

No surprise though that the power steering played up when it was about a year old, often cutting in and out which made for a strange driving experience.  The dealer fixed it after two attempts with a 'software update' which was the point at which I realised once and for all that modern cars were not for me.

You're Mother Ghosty AICMFP.

She has the auto one of these - it can't comfortably go over 70 without making a lot of noise at 3500rpm - it sounds like it wants another gear but it doesn't have one.

There's only one good thing about that and it's the factory alloys - I think that makes it a Twist, as no other model except the Sport had them as standard.

Oh, and the mirrors don't fold in. That's just fucking stupid.

I quite like the GTIs but they were factory-bodged. A mate had one and apparently there were thousands of combinations of parts used; three different types of rear light.... Some had aluminium doors, some steel. Two different dashboards. Exhausts never fit and have to be reshaped.

My sister had one of these which she ran into the ground. She liked it, I found the seatbelt was so far behind me (on the 3dr) that I was worried I'd dislocate my shoulder reaching for it. I also found the gearstick was too far back. I drove it a bunch but I literally cannot recall a single moment of driving it. Also the 5 and 6 buttons were worn out on the radio.

Positives: I think the cupholder popped out of the dash in an amusing way.

Verdict: ★☆☆☆☆

 This I can confirm!

The button to put it back in is very well hidden.

Aw, are they terrible? I really wanted one when they were new. Would still have a 3L.

Interesting, how many people admit to know someone who has/had one.

You should all post it in the Confessions Corner, you heathens.

Then go and save a J-reg Proton for repentance.

The missus started making noises about one of these a while back. Thanks to the excellent advice and first word accounts of woe she likes mk1 foci better now!

I've got a tin of blackboard paint, suitcase and a tin of chunks if you've got a roof rack.

Triple the resale value.
(Slam and band of course)

We bought one of those at auction. Let's just say I wasn't impressed with the build "quality". Shifted it for £££s no bother, mind.

EDIT: Just noticed that Cav's car is a Lupo. We bought a Polo that looked like that.

It looks like an evil little bastard. I'd take great pleasure in trapping it in a warehouse and killing it with a big yellow digger. You can't polish a turd, son.

I don't know, I just assume it'll be horrible and dull inside, be slow, and feel really heavy, like every other VW I've driven.

ORL WV's ARE POO

I thought it was a Polo too.

Scratch the earlier comment then Mother MicraShed has a Polo dizzler, not a Lupus.

EDIT:

Must read to end of thread.

10 PTS for non matching wheel trims Dave.

Should  be more, has 2 diferent ones on other side i think.

Those older ones are pretty tough old goats it's the more modern ones like cavtinas got, which much more complex and likely to explode. Still mega popular though so you'll shift it no bother.

Can anyone CAP this for me, please? It's a 2004, looks really tidy 1.4 petrol. MOT/tax, air con about 104,000 miles I think.
