Please tell me not to buy this Renault 30 td...

Hi,

I was just offered this 200 tkm Renault 30 TD. It does not have the typical rust issues but its interior is a bit grubby and it seems to leak fluids as these engines do... 1000 Euros should buy it...

1983 RENAULT R30 Turbo Diesel

There is more than only that photo but direct linking is not allowed.

Could you please talk me out of it? How can I justify owning this heap and a R25 V6t as well?

However, I doubt if you are the ones to ask for advice :) It is brown, French and shite.

Just to add:

The Dutch have to sell their old diesels. The owner also had a Peugeot 504 estate which, to due to some new tax rules, will cost him 100 Euros taxes per month...

Neither will it be possible to use the car in Amsterdam due to new emission laws...

That is the end of the Dutch shite paradise...

In Germany it will cost 200 Euros to tax and 100 to insure as a classic car...

I think you made a typo in the thread title. Surely you meant 'please tell me to buy this Renault 30 td'?

Right, so this was the place to ask about sense :)

Until now I have only had a look at it and got a shiply quote for 250 Euros...

I the real world there are not many reasons to buy this. One might be that it would actually provide cheaper miles than my Laguna... and I do have a shed full of worthless spares for this engine.

If it costs 200 Euros to tax and 100 to insure, only walking could possibly be cheaper, and considering today's tariffs for shoes, I doubt even that.

Talk you out of it?  You HAVE to buy it!  I expect to be reading the collection thread this time tomorrow.

you have laguna and you want us to tell you no to buy a more reliable older renault

That needs buying! But what a shitter about the diesel Dutch laws, I hope that doesn't happen over here.

What do you mean shipley quote?

Train ticket Cologne-Amsterdam is £1.93 and Diesel in Holland is £0.00000003 per ton.

The EPIK CURLECSHUN THREAT will be priceless!

I bloody loved the R20 and 30.  Have you bought it yet?

Funny company Reno, they either make cars that are lovely looking like these, or fuggin ugly bastards, never anything ordinary.

A decent pair of hiking boots cost £100 so defo buy it.

*Facepalms* Get it bloodywell bought!

It should be a good one, seeing as it took them 11 years to build it...

:)  seeing these reactions I believe that I have to buy it. It makes perfekt sense.

I'd love an OMG collection thread and would not worry to drive it back. Unfortunately it does not have Mot, nor is it taxed, nor can I insure it on a Dutch plate nor can I put a German short-term plate on it. The EU is not for shitters :)

Send the Peugeot to the UK!

Why are they suddenly making it expensive to drive old diesels over there?

Posted

I could collect it myself but that would mean going to Amsterdam with my mate's Espace V6 (one of the first ones) and a rented trailer. It loves to cut out when hot, has holes in the exhaust just after the manifolds and drinks huge amounts of petrol... It also likes to overheat because the radiator fans do not work. He is too lazy to fix that (he's an electrician) so he just turns up the heater...

I stay with shiply and enjoy a lazy Saturday...

Apparently it is Amsterdam's green party and fine particles...

I am sure one of the Dutch members of this forum could explain.

The Dutch used to import a lot of shite from France and Germany. I think everything over 20 years old was very low tax / tax free. So a lot of people bought old diesels and Lpg'ed their petrol shite cars. Under the new laws, diesels and LPG cars have to be over 40 years old to get those tax benefits...

So now people end up ripping out LPG kits and selling their diesels. As I said, I think the seller of the R30 td told me he will have to pay 100 or 120 Euros a month to tax his peugeot 504 diesel under the new laws.

Buy it and write lots about it on here to inspire fellow Renault barge fanciers.

I'll go against the flow and say 'don't buy it'.

I think you should buy every old diesel in Holland.

Is there much of this sort of car over there then? I am wondering if it will become a handy source of old diesel chod, much like Germany was for everyone who wanted an ex-fire brigade mk1 Transit.

Stuff like Pug 504/5 and merc w123s will always find a buyer, usually on a different continent.
