right then I"ll admit it, I brought the rover 213 (to the disgust of my wife ) and what a dismal car it is, its beige so it fits in here well,  I wanted to save it from a fate worse than death so all of Saturday me and my shite loving son got to work on it and put another pump on drove well until it stopped and wouldn't start again, so tried an electric pump drove well, then you guessed it stopped again, this went on until I blew air down the fuel line and cleaned the carb out and so far so good it runs well the clutch is a bit high but goes body not to bad for the the year and low miles, so there I did it

What a star! So was it basically just a dirty carb then?. It was also a Autoshite member who bought it in the first place.

Nice work :) Have you returned the bluetooth stereo lol?

yes hopefully its was a dirty carb, the man I won it from told me a right tale of woe

Very nice.

Unusually for a rover, when they were in production they held their value quite well, unlike the rest of the range, their residuals being on a par with Man. Utd shares.

Is this the one from ebay that was left at a railway station?

There was a thread about it over on Retro Rides. http://retrorides.proboards.com/thread/163948/rover-213s-worth-saving

So, £64 for train down, £77 for tax, £30 for fuel, £25 for day insurance and breakdown (not worth anything), £42 for travelodge, and finally £65 for train back up.

So it went for £180ish, minus ebay fees and posting key off, I've lost £500

Interesting arithmetics, but I feel sorry for the guy nonetheless.

But would I have given up that easily had I travelled 300mi for it?

Hell no.

I would have shit on the bonnet and set fire to it.

To be fair though when you travel 300 miles for some old chod you need to be prepared for disaster. Recovery of some kind is a must.

Oh and yes well saved. Defo not shitty fire material now.

Looks surprisingly decent. These things are so extraordinarily rust-prone its not even funny, Rover almost deserved to go bankrupt purely off the back of how piss-poorly they built em.

I messaged the seller on this offering to fix and store as I felt a bit sorry for him and it was pretty local.

You have won Autoshite.

I once had a 1986 Rover 216i, in the so called "Vitesse" spec.  Yeah right.    Not bad, for a fookan Honda.  In other words, it was crap.

That's effing brilliant, it really is/ I like the way these drives too, Mr B was right about the awful way they rusted like there was no tomorrow, but they're actually quite rewarding to drive.

Yes great purchase, it's amazing how quickly these have disappeared, I haven't seen one for ages.

My neighbour had a very rusty E reg one around ten years ago, it sounded very sweet though.

I love that interior!

Glad I posted that up now, I found it under cars for sale section rather than classic cars on Ebay.

Car actually looks quite well in your pics, nice buy.

My father had a white 216 vdp one which was a lovely little motor to drive..

I always thought these were a far superior car to the Escort/Orion, I think his had the S series engine with fuel injection and it was a far better on juice and more reliable and quicker than the horrid CVH lump that powered my XR3 back in the day.

And as said already hearing aid beige is the colour to have...

I bid up to £170 on that too! I live quite close and had a look at it after I saw the listing. Looked quite straight and they seem to have virtually disappeared recently.

Good luck with that and well saved!
