Peugeot 306 cabriolet with 21k miles by messerschmitt owner, on Flickr

New car bought for £750, £100 deposit paid, cash withdrawn from bank for balance, train ticket (£15.70 one way from Gloucester to Broxbourne, Herts) bought. Insurance cover note in pocket. Insurance cancelled from 9am Saturday on Punto cabriolet.

Being picked up at Broxbourne station at 9.15 Saturday by seller and then to PO to tax new car.

Synchronise watches for 4.30 tomorrow morning when the alarm rings and grumpy wife gets up to take me to the station seventeen miles away.

I am taking a sewing kit to repair the dirty great tear in the roof on the nearside. That's why it was cheap. Have located a roof for £95 in good nick so may swap over.

It has this with it.

All of the 206s we looked at had 90,000+ on the clock and were nudging or over £1000.

And, of course, you don't need a saw to chop off your passengers' legs with this!

Always liked these..........does it have a hard top?

nope - just a soft top - hard tops are about £200 or so for one, and you have to make sure you get the brackets and special spanner or it's a very expensive garage ornament.

On the hunt for a hard top sensibly close to home.

Take gaffa tape and do it properly.

Needle and thread was cheaper than decent gaffa tape.

Uber kwalidee craftsmanship there.  Truly the work of a Master of Taping Shit Up.   He must have trained at Lotus or somewhere.

In that case it should be "Coming soon to a small screen near you" :-D

PS Looks alright that does!

I am more worried about coming on a small screen near me if this car is as SEX as it appears to be.

Looks good and only 21k from new!!

What does the spanner logo mean by the trip mileage?

Posted

Service due. So do an oil change and Google how to turn it off!

Mot TIll October - no tax!

One owner from new.

Fab. Though be kind and replace those bleedin' aero blades. They look entirely wrong on a 306. I can confirm that resetting the service indicator is very easy.

If i recall from doing my aunts 306 its press and hold trip reset, turn key toll lights come on dash while holding button. Should countdown from 10 to 0. Hope this helps

Before you change the roof you should open it at 70mph to see what happens.

In theory it only opens if the engine is switched off but ignition is on.

Am going to do a quick service on Sunday with new plugs and filters.

And ta for the reset procedure!

Jesus, another sorry attempt at a thrilling* collection thread, this time with a frankly tragic dream of looking cool in a pitiable strive at a sports car, based on the sole fact that it's got no roof. The fact that its current owner could only bring himself to drive 21k in this suggests he couldn't face much time in public with it.

That aside, the 306 is one of the better Pugs in my opinion. Later Pugs are just miserable places to be but I always quite liked the 306. The seats are really comfy and there's loads of space just like it's successor, the 207, except the 207 manages to rob you of a bit of your life every time you step into it.

£750 - bargain.

Posted

lol -

it replaces a Fiat Punto cabriolet and is hardly a sports car.

You have reminded me I must get my three pathetically shite sports cars back on the road and not waste my money on a car for the mrs though!  ;-)

fantastic! I've been eyeing up these of late, such well styled cars.

Park up next to any of the gopping modern retractable tip top equivalents for maximum effect.

Golly gosh there's a good looking machine.

It's not quite the best colour, and the Shrek-ear mirrors are a bit daft, but it has some lovely Cyclone rims and a bargainous pricetag. Well done!

I hope Mrs_MO enjoys it.

Is it the two litre?

Driving home via Gloucester today I saw a Megane tintop on the back of a car transporter with the roof half down! I guess it was broke...

I agree on the colour - would be scarlet or yellow if I had a choice!

It's a 2.0 16v

Shame the ved is £280 a year! Would have been all of £260 with the 1.8.

Ah, this was the right choice IMHO - low miles, late reg madness, repairable, looks good etc etc.

Look forward to seeing the collection!

I like these, having had one as a rental in Tenerife years ago.  Good shot there, I'm fancying one myself but really want something older.  Can't afford a floppy 304 though...

It's 4.51 - wife is in shower, leaving in ten mins!

Train 18 miles away at 5.42.

typing this out as we speak.

No gratuitous breakfast shot just yet. It's way too early for that....

In today's wildlife special, we come across train passengers at 5.40am. They're loud and noisy, and messy too. Getting up early has upset their equilibrium and in the unusual habitat of the train they make more noise and messthan normal.

Two of today's female passengers are performing some form of mating ritual involving sharing drinks and kissing. Entertaining, to say the least ;-)

As we pass Stonehouse, the rowdy male party gets noisier. With almost two hours to go before they get to London, will they ever quieten down.

Gloucester itself is home to the lesser spotted DMU, with three in evidence at this early hour.

Photos to follow!
