Nothing wrong with a 1.3 a series nor anything else apart from those hateful headlight "bonnets" and wheels. just seems like everything has been done after a visit to halfords and it is all a bit halfarsed.

 

And the wood looks a bit soft, nowt misfitting about thouse back doors eh

I'd have a saloon over a hatch, purely because it'd be half the price. They're ugly, they have no point, and most people avoid them like the plague - sounds like a modern piece of shite if ever I heard one! I reckon they're quite nicely put together though, certainly nicer quality than the equivalent Fiesta (although Ford were approaching fast and would soon overtake)

I've not noticed VW spares prices to be any more expensive than any other - especially since at that age, you're going to be hassling Euro and GSF rather than the main dealer. And I'm sure if you took one of those to a main dealer for a service they'd look at you like you'd grown a cock out of your ear. I seem to remember those shape cars were the last to use a generation of engines and they were all new for the next shape so it's hardly OMG Complicated Electronickery.
