MoT ran out last week so he wont be able to tax it. :( Fingers crossed for a last minute save!

Must be somewhere it can sit off the road for a couple of weeks surely?

For the sake of £100 which is basically a night out on the town, I'd have it but the problem is the cost of getting it back to mine, if it still had some ticket left it would have been gone within the first day.

The guy on the sierra forum that was asking about it the other day has posted saying he can collect it tomorrow and wants Gary's number to arrange - But for some reason I cant access the PMs! argh! Gary can you log in to that site and see if it lets you do it?

ALL H REG SIERRAS MUST BE SAVED

I'll try and get hold of him for you...

Think we may have found a home for this now, and it'll be staying in the AS family if so.

couple of thinga. Do the PO still check MOTs? cos they dont bother with insurance any more. If anybodys stuck for storage sarf theres loadsa room at the yard (surrey)

When I taxed my car at the start of this month the bloke at the Post Office didn't check any docs.  Not sure if it's' on their 'puters these days though.

Posted

It's all checked electronically, so yes, it'd be "computer says no" if you tried :-(

They have the same computer system now as the DVLA, they have all been upgraded to cover the work from the closed down DVLA local offices, they WILL have access to the insurance database.

Not so sure about the insurance...  When I taxed mine I'd only been insured that morning (a Saturday) so doubt the MID would have been updated already.  I went through the rigmorole of driving in to work (in our other car) to print out my insurance certificate (no printer at home) but when I got to the PO the chap didn't even flippin' check it.

Yep, I had that when I taxed the Corsa recently. Seems I only needed the money and precious little else.

Please cheer up a gloomy Day and tell me this has been saved

Left this morning, hopefully he'll make it back OK and we'll be kept up to date with the progress.

It's not gonna be scrapped.

Really pleased OWC managed to avoid being cubed, great result at the last minute!

Wonder who stepped up and bought it?

Excellent news. Glad it's being re-homed with a sympathetic enthusiast.

Good Afternoon all

Im now the proud owner of said Sierra, what can I say im a sucker for a sob story...

Well after not thinking it through, the sierra is home and reality has sunk in.....

After booking it in for an Mot late last night !!! and the prospect of a 90 mile round journey,

What could possibly go wrong.

After conjuling 2 kids, 1 dog and the wife on the prospect of a journey to the coast where daddy was to pick up a car.The night before didn't go well, what with the youngest crying for what seemed like an eternity, so waking up blurry eyed and a head that was pounding we were off, only 40 minutes behind schedule.

Using the wifes Ford focus, the engine management light comes on half way down there, wahey !!!

Fast forward, the car has an appointment booked for MOT, insured, but theres the small matter of driving a car back with a cracked screen, and weeping radiator. Anywho I view the car conscious of time, knowing the drive back is going to be the stuff of legendary proportions, I rather rush the transaction sorry Gary ( Nice to meet you by the way )and start the drive back. Have I thought this through no, of course not, but just think a relative newbie, I can be on the legendary save board, o the adulation of Autoshite, the king of sierra...

The drive back, my bum was clenching, my nostrils accimitising itself to the new smells, 5 miles in WTF, rancid, toe curling smell o man check the temperature all good, bloody dog had only let off a smell akin to death... Throughout the journey I'd been planning my story for when, not if I got pulled over...I pulled in for fuel still worrying, what have I done, the sierras charms weren't working on me yet, the whole bum clenching journey was testing me at this stage... Then it started raining o god I didn't want to use the wipers for fear of shredding them on the windscreen. Second stop refreshment stage, still nervous as hell that I was gonna get pulled...back on pushing on, up to 70 mph at one stage, then the fear, o man a Black Ford focus st with blue lights in the fast lane, what happens next can only be compared to a crap mid eighties American film, a truck in front of me, then a truck to my right.....Im boxed in and it almost looks intentional that my car is hidden from view.

Right home straight M3, cars passing then it happens an Astra pulls alongside to my right then I can feel his eyes piercing my skull, the frigging windscreen he must be looking at, what if he's a undercover cop, o shit bang gone, 5 minutes he's level with me, I've got to do something I swear he's looking at the car more than the road.. Fuck it, slam shes exceeds the legal limit nicely, right lets calm down a bit, arrrgggghhhhh the pink Floyd tape, turn the equaliser on that looks fun, hahaha good for a laugh.

HOME

Right parked on my lawn, straight in the house, and the wife who'd been following me, berates me she's tired feels sick, so I can only make amends and look after the kids whilst she tries to have a lie down.

No photos for the epic save due to not wanting to hang around if you know what I mean....

The car, drives fine, needs a good clean, no temperature issues but for today and big shout out to my wife the sierra ghia is to be left on the lawn and work starts tomorrow
