Dagenham Motors  8)  8)  8)  Fond memories of the Worthing branch; family had Fiesta, Escorts, P100, Transit from them... plates look great and I agree it's a pet hate of mine too, along with those gash nu-font shiny black & silver pressed alloy showpl8s... WANK

They look great! You did well to get that sticker on without getting air bubbles, the one on the Maestro is starting to look better but it was a pain in the arse to get lined up where the original was.

They do have quite a range if you own a Ford. Being an Essex guy the plates I remember from my youth were loads of Dagenham Motors (just plain Dag motors, I'm guessing this was the actual Dagenham branch), Rates Ford (Grays/Stanford le Hope) and Perrys Southend. The Perrys cars always had 'Go Perrys' in the back window and a Go Perrys sticker on the bootlid.

These are Ace. Looks great.

I am also a plate fetishist. I know it could have had them from new, but I got a set of pre 2001 font plates for the Marea, what with it being 1999 and all...

What's the difference in the fonts, is it thickness of the characters or something? I tend to just buy the cheapest I can find but 30 quid does seem good value for the plates and the stickers.

Post 2001 plates have narrower characters to accommodate the blue EU bar. Some of the characters are very different too, e.g. B and D have little sticky out bits to make them look more different from 8 and O.

Think I need a set for mine, though originally it wouldn't have had any dealer details on it, as they weren't allowed.  As a hire car all it would have had would have been the BS number in some sort of italic font.  I've already got a bundle of the correct tax dis holders for it, might need a AA Relay sticker to stick behind the interior mirror.

On the look out for an AA relay sticker myself to complete the early 90s look. I think they did a fancier one if you took out european cover at the time, but that might look a bit too adventurous for our early 90s sierra driving family man, but i cant find either at the mo.

The wheel on the estate is common to all GLS GLX and ghia models, and is a tidy looking 3 spoker, non leather, and on my car worn minicab smooth in places. Ideas of finding a better one became looking for a replacement leather one.

Being a Ford I had quite a few choices.....

Whilst I browsed I decided to stick to something fitted to a Sierra or one from the Ford accessories catalogue.

I do like these. So does everyone! A 3 or 4 spoke rs motorsport one, which were sadly OMG old skool ford expensive and I decided basically wrong for an auto estate model.

The cosworth/ sapph cosworth 2wd/ 2000E wheel looks nice but theyre often tatty, and again not cheap.

I presume boosted by rising values of 3 door cosworths and people wanting to return them to standard spec.

In the end I noticed that the Sierra 4x4 cosworth wheel, aside from being a couple of cm smaller, is basically identical in style to the original wheel but made of nicer materials and trimmed in leather.

There was a smart one going cheap so I went for that.

Suprising how something as minor as the wheel can make the whole car feel smarter. The horn works properly now too!

1991 was a long time ago.... The sierra was a large family car, riding around on its now dainty 14 inch alloys, since then everything around it has grown and today even a polo is just about as wide (the white car facing it)

Probably like you, i've comfortably got the oldest car in the work car park!

Back to mid 91 time and when the men from Genk assembled it, R.E.M. were riding high in the charts singing about shiny happy people whilst I was about to start secondary school.

Meanwhile this blasted on our tv screens...

Since Brian May put the guitar away the Sierra has suffered countless British winters and Its stood up to everything thrown at it. I do feel a bit guilty using it as my daily transport this time of year when it has survived so well. Whats your experience with waxoyl and the like? To salve my conscience ive decided come spring im going to buy a load of dynax and coat the box sections and the underside with dynax UB. Plus theres still a replacement rad to sort.....

My dad, bought a 1.6 Beige Base Estate in 1983 Brand new Y reg. So devoid of extras, that it had no radio, no front headrests, no wheel trims, no rear seat belts.  Pretty much as Basic as they came.  Both my sister and I learnt to drive in it, and having passed I proceeded to spend the next few years attempting to destroy it for him.  He eventually gave it to my sister with 150K on the clock, and she sold it with 180K to someone in her church at 50 a month for 10 months.  Not a very Christian deal and I suspect she will go to hell for that.

Up for sale due to impending shite purchase. Its been a lovely, reliable undemanding car to own. Its in nice condition, theres a rust bubble 50p sized on one wheel arch, and the rear of the sills has been repaired in the past. The radiator has a weep when its hot, I keep an eye on the coolant level and top it up as and when. The MOT and tax are up at the end of january. It would be nice to see it on the forum, (its ex Wuvvum, RobT) £250 to a shiter.

Buggeration. The Plymouth-ness of your location rules me out. Ive actually just been on skyscanner looking at flights, but with that and the petrol back up it makes it double the price

I'M OUT  - in the hope that the next owner brings it a bit closer to scotland so I can have it next time

its a super mega turbo bargain at £250. I doubt it'll still be looking for a new owner by the end of the night!
