Not sure it helps, but my hotel room will probably be available on the Friday night as I won't get home from work until very late. I'll be wanting to kip in it on Saturday though.

I did wonder whether any of you were booked into rooms with more than one bed and fancied cost-sharing. I can have a word with the hotel if you like?

Don't forget the bowl for the car keys, then it could be the first Autoshite swingers' party

Do we have to hang happy meal toys from our cars to indicate willingness?

How many are coming up on the Friday?. I'm still half tempted to take the Friday off work and come up a day early as it's such a long way for me to come.

At least 3/4 of Scotland will be there Friday around teatime; DW reckons theres a pub quiz of sorts happening.

As late as teatime? I reckon if we meet at Bothwell at about 0700 we'll miss all the traffic and it's a 6 hour jaunt. Lunchtime more like

I'm planning on setting off Friday lunchtime, three hour journey?

Posted

Google makes it just over 5 hours/260 miles for me which is far enough in a 30 years old 1.3 Triumph I think! I'd probably leave about 11am planning on arriving about 6pm?.

I have Friday booked off work,  no idea what time I'll get there as if we've only got one working car it'll be needed for the school run.

If that's the case I may try hitching a lift same as most of you will be passing Ludlow, Leominster, Hereford or Shrewsbury on the way and the Disco isn't exactly going to cause a crowd of drooling shitters.

Unfortunately unlikely to make this event now :( : still recovering from being mostly dead for the best part of 3 months and probably not too safe to be far away from home until blood count is back to sensible levels (yes, I'm keeping taking the tablets).

Not sure i can get Friday off - will try though. Could go via Ludlow naturally - just when.

I forget where you are Barefoot but Tiverton is about 3hrs away.

I would have thought that the Disco is ideal Autoshite fodder, though I do love the purple motor Mr Cats.

There is indeed a pub quiz on Friday. Starts 9pm. Ish.

Irrelevant information to Barefoot, very useful for me as that is where I will be heading from. Looks like I'll be setting off about 1 on Friday then. THANKS DOLLYWOBBLER!

Ah, for some reason I thought Barefoot was also South West. Must the the VW associations. Probably a four hour schlep from Donnington, though I did once manage to get here from Cambs in 3.5hrs in a non-turbo BX. Very traffic dependent!

Posted

My recommended route from the South West is M5, M4, A449 at Newport, try not to get lost at Abergavenny (it gets a bit confusing here) then cut up to Talgarth, Builth Wells, Rhayader and either the mountain road or the A44/A470 to Devil's Bridge. At Rhayader, watch out for the clock tower they handily placed right in the middle of the road.

Edited due to motorway confusion.

Friday's booked off work and I've just got of the phone to the hotel after booking the room for an extra night too.

I'm gonna go up Friday if that's OK, no idea when as it looks like I'm gonna be going via Bristol so could take several days (or I might overestimate it and arrive really early).

Posted

Via Bristol is probably sensible. 6-7hrs likely from Brighton, but it's a journey that gets steadily better all the way! Until you have to pay the toll on the M4.

I might even turn up at the right starting point this time.

I was planning to walk and hitch my way there, unless some kind-hearted soul from the South East is heading over on the Friday, *cough* GaryCox *cough*.

I can provide travel costs, interminably dull conversation and christmas lights.

Posted

Not sure how it'll fit in with my plan of collecting stuff from Bristol en route... Will DO THE MATH(s) and PM you in a bit when I'm on an actual computing machine.

What's the itinerary for Friday evening/Saturday morning? This has run to 29 pages now and it's not on the first with the ESSENTIAL INFOZ, just wondering whether I can justify missing FOOTBALL LADS NIGHT OUT at Reading's favourite bistros and discotheques on the Friday night...
