AUTOSHITE former members. Where are they now?

Ever since we had problems with the forum hosting several long standing members seem to of vanished never to be seen again. I'm thinking of the likes of Boobydoo, LancashireClamper, Regie Ritmo and the like.

Can we have a list of missing contributors and try and get them back on board?

Who else has gone but not forgotten?

Posted

Regie went off yonks ago, apparently he's had a lass on the go.

R_Welfare only recently came back in from the cold. I'd wondered where he went.

Spotted Laurel and Hirst - have they got fed up and taken their j-tin expertise elsewhere?

I think SL is busy these days with a family and house and doesn't have the time he used too, I also think a few people left as they don't like the way some people can act or talk to others on here at times.

At least Spotted Laurel is all over the fuggin innernerd. My assumption is that he has no time for us.

Was there ever a golden age of Autohite? Other than the era before I joined obviously!

Posted

I'd say it is right now.

Look around you. Purely shite of the highest order. These are well and truly shite heydays.

Spat his dummy out, left and semi-started up Motorscat.

Another one on the 'gone' list is Ashmicro.  A great lad who also had a real knowledge and passion for Rovers.

Posted

I know Seth hasn't really gone (hello Seth), but I do miss his posts. Hirst was always worth a chuckle.

Golden age? Not sure. Always easy to think back and don the rose tinted glasses. This place seems good right now. I like it.

Aye, Ashmicro's a loss. He was a good laugh and very knowledgable.

I wonder what happened there, he just disappeared. I didn't see any toys out the pram or anything although who knows what happens over pm.

I notice L9UKE hasn't been on much either. I think he got fed up of folk laughing at Meganes. If there was anyone who had love for the unloved it was him.

Hear hear. I recently decided to jump back in and start posting again after years of lurking because there's so much good stuff being discussed on here that I simply couldn't resist.

But... Pog... what exactly happened there then? What is Motorscat?

Posted

I think Ash wasn't happy with an 'attitude' or two. Hopefully he'll come back on board at some point, ditto Boobydo and some others.

*Edit: all credit to Andy too, as he didn't do that cringeworthy massive rant about how shit the place was/everyone new was a twat/nobody posted what he wanted to read, so he was off and it was our loss etc.

Posted

I also think a number of members moved onto the Facebook group instead, I still see a few past faces pop up on there who don't come on here anymore, Alan Partridge, Morgan and L9UKE being 3 who pop into my head.

There's still some pretty decent stuff being posted on here recently but it's still nowhere near as good as it was 4-5 years ago when it was quite literally the funnest place on the web, mate.

I have to go to moto-scat to get my fill of Pog, Seth, Spottedlaurel, Barrett and Hirst these day

Moto Scat's hardly a hive of activity.

At my work when I started there was about 4-5 people who I was all really friendly with. We had a great laugh and generally had a great time but over time some of them left and other people started. While we have a laugh it's never quite what it was like when all the original folk where here. It's the same with the forum. We can either go on about how good it used to be or just get on with it and encourage new members to post interesting stuff.

I saw some posts on RR (particularly Dez who seems to hate this place for some reason) who seems to think the place is to cliquey. I don't think we're really that unfriendly are we?

Posted

Shurely not? I must say I've never felt unwelcome, despite not being one of the most established shiters.

Facebook's a gopping pile of crap.

EFA ;-)

Louise2CV hasn't popped in for quite a while now, which is a shame. Wonder how she's getting on with her Astra?

Posted

The Facebook group's still a gopping pile of crap. I left about two months ago and haven't wanted to go back. Far too many reposts from 'humor' sites and blurry iPhone snaps of knackered Corsas (sorry, CORSA'S).

I refuse to look at \ post on Moto-Scat.

Yeah the Facebook group is very hit and miss, mostly miss especially when you get posts like "How do I make mi Corsa mor Autoshite" like it's some kind of fashion statement, and Moto-Scat is dead but it's worth looking it for the threads from the likes of Seth and Barrett which frankly should be posted back on here again and I think are a big loss to this place.

That's a good one.

The top 3 posters is Cavette, trigger and bollox but that's not to say they're the longest member.

Ahhh, he's one of *those* people. IIRC they own that "Dr Steven Brule" thing that comes & shits in our garden every now & then.

Posted

To be fair because we're pretty much all used to the site now, it might seem cliquey without it being intentional. If plenty of possible newcomers are saying the same then there obviously is an issue.

You can never rest on your laurels, but things are very lively on here now and that can't be a bad thing.

Posted

I do think we can sometimes be a bit harsh on new folk if they don't quite get how things work, but in a way that sort of keeps the idiots away. Sensible people take note and come back with a thread of decent quality. Idiots just tend to go somewhere else.

I do agree with Mr Bollox to a certain extent that the use of actual names is perhaps best avoided. That can make outsiders wonder what's going on. After reading Mr Bollox's view on the subject, I've stopped doing it. I guess if folk wanted to use their actual names, they would.

Posted

I genuinely don't understand why bollox stresses about using real first names. It seems far less weird than when you finally meet up with someone and have to say e.g. "Er... so you're explosive cabbage then?"

True story. Might have been embellished a bit.

I miss Lukas, and especially his spotted thread. It was that which made me sign up, after losing most of a night trawling through it. Very pleasant fella, to boot.

As for getting old members back...fuck knows. I can see why people regard this place as clique-y, and therefore assume that most of the people who've walked away had just had enough. Nothing's going to reverse that, so we should probably just embrace change, and go with it, however that is today! Bit like real life really

Posted

Better still, I posted that, then clicked 'General Chat', and...lo and behold, he's the most recent poster on the thread immediately below this one! Well, that'll learn me...
