Mk 3 Cavalier

Rover 2/400 pre bubble shape

Citroen Xsara

mk.3 Golf

mk.1 Punto

Bravo and Brava

all seem to have completely vanished

Honda CR-X, Concerto, del Sol, and any early '90s Civic or Accord derivative, likely due to rear wheelarch rust. Also mk2 Golf GTi, early Seat Ibizas, and early Volvo S40s. Also there don't seem to be many G-Wizzes in London any more.

MK 5 and 6 Escorts seem to be vanishing , theres a few MK6 vans about but no 5s in any form .

After saying that I saw a bloody Kia Mentor today hahaha Was a Mentor II though but still. And a very clean MK2 Fiesta with an older chap driving it.

Saw a white, 3 door 309 driving through Swansea City Centre this afternoon. Looked to be in good condition, being piloted by a woman in her late 20's

There's a garage round this 'ere parts that always has Mk1 & 2 Escorts outside. And not rally style ones, standard estate versions just like the one that was left at the side of the road last night.

I see more R8's than Escort/Orion & Astra/Belmont. This could be because I pay more attention to them though.

Infact, when was the last time you saw a Belmont? Its got to be about 5 years for me!

It's been a bit longer for me, nearly 10 years.

The last one I saw was when a prat on a motorbike decided to ride straight into the back of my mother's K10 Micra pushing it 8 feet up the road into the front of her neighbour's Belmont.

Once the idiot got out of hospital he tried to sue my mother for dangerous parking (!), a place where she had parked for 10 years before and the 10 years since. Anyway we replaced the Micra with an old Panda and the women next door got a Rover 600. She's still got the Rover but Mother has progressed to a K11 Micra

Ouch , A wheelie that went wrong?

Not quite, more like not paying attention.

Apparently his father had died that morning so I think he wasn't fully focused, possibly travelling a little too quick for the conditions and he swears a minibus pulled out in front of him causing him to clip the Astramax van coming the other way and ricochet into the Micra.

I was first on the scene, made sure he was breathing and comfortable and made sure his helmet wasn't removed until paramedics arrived.

As said before the thanks I got for this was a threat of a lawsuit. He also said that my mother had parked without her handbrake on because apparently I'd told him previously that he was lucky my mother was elderly and probably didn't apply a handbrake as firmly as I would. I told him this as I thought the fact that the Micra moved 8 feet had probably saved his life. Twat !

Anyway, rant over, back on topic. A mate had this in for sale a while ago and it made me think how few of the 1970's Japanese sporty numbers are about nowadays. Datsun 240 K GT Skyline.

A motorcyclist skidded off his bike five cars behind me when I was queuing. I jumped out of the car to help him, and the tit started blaming me saying he thought I was about to turn across his path. Instantly disputed this and got a witness in front of him. Told the insurers and they said it's common for motor cyclists to blame someone else for their own poor skills. Needless to say there was no claim forthcoming.

There were Mk1 Fiat Unos everywhere in Cheshire when I started driving.  My mate John has a 70SX in light green and I often struggled to keep up in my Mk4 1.4L Escort.

Renault 19 Convertibles and Chamades.

Rover 600s.

BMW 3 series Compacts.

The first generation Fiat Cromas only seemed to be around for one year, but everywhere, then they all instantly evaporated.  The Turbo always looked hot to me in black.

Fiat Tipo/Brava/Bravo were all over the place.

The Ford Ka seems to be slipping into the void at a rapid rate.

Daihatsu Charmant (incredibly common on bungalow estates in South Staffordshire), Sportrack (common with college girls in Lincolnshire) and Fourtrack (common with farmers Everywhereshire).

Ford Cougar.

Alfa 145/146/156.  156 GTA - yum!

L-Alfa-Romeo-156-GTA-Sportwagen.jpg

Volvo 440/460/480.

Citroen ZX and Xantia.  Always liked the b pillar treatment on the three door Citroen ZX, the 16v was fit.

The Maserati Bi-Turbo seemed to appear in many films and TV series, usually California or Miami based during the early/mid-80's, then they were all wiped out overnight.

I'm surprised nobody's pointed out that's not an Astramax, but a Combo...

Early 406?  Cavette's got one!

My old green 2.0, to be exact.  96 on the P, so about as old as a 406 can be!   Meanwhile, I moved on, to probably the youngest Nissan Cherry left,

86 on the D, which I'm loving, and is something else you never see.  I'm pretty sure it's the only one in Barrow.  I also see regularly an SD1

post-4559-0-08738100-1375476447_thumb.jpg

and a mk2 Fiesta,

post-4559-0-78400800-1375476514_thumb.jpg

both again on the D.  It'd be really nice to get them together with mine for a photoshoot.  We have plenty of generic industrial buildings in Barrow that could be used as backdrop...

I do know of a mk1 Escort estate, and a pop-up 323F, in fact a couple of those, all sitting in a yard, but the yard is in Cyprus.  Along with a collection of other RWD Escorts, Avengers, Sunbeams..... all stuff you just don't see on the road now.

Surprised nobody has mentioned the original VW Beetle. Right up to the mod 1990s they were fairly common, and outlasted cars of a similar age.

I remember 2 of my schoolfriend's mums had ones in the late 80's, when they were just another car. One I remember in particular was on a G plate or something, but other makes of car of the same age had long gone.

Now standard Beetles are quite rare.

Posted

There are several air-cooled Beetles around Barrow, not to mention Bays and even Splitties.  I think it must be some kind of retro hotspot, as there are loads of A-series Minis too.

Good choice of homecoming town there, Ed!

Is that because there's just the one road in & out...?

Eddyramrod, I see a cherry on the way to work but I can't remember the reg I'm pretty sure it's a c plate if it is I will take a photo for you as evidence

There was a Rover 45 saloon at the garden centre this afternoon (I know, I know...) which made me realise I hadn't seen one for ages. Nice motor, especially in silver/light metallics - much better proportions than the hatch, IMHO.

Not seen a Peugeot 405 for yonks

They seem to have disappeared off e bay too

Mazda RX8 - when they came out, you were tripping over them all the time.

Now that folk have realised how much fuel and oil they consume - they're gone.

Surprised we haven't had this yet. It doesn't seem very long ago that about 50 per cent of pensioner couples in the country had one of these on their drive...
