That is brilliant! How does it drive? A bit sluggish I'd guess?

The only one I've seen that low spec was a 2000. It looks brilliant . What's the score soes it need work to get it on the road? It looks good bodywork wise anyway.

That is proper POVO-spec ! Amazing !!!

Shame it's too early a model to have had the option of the refined* VM diesel. That combination would have been Tagora-beating in shiteness !

My old (late) Deputy Headmaster used to have a W reg 3500 in that colour that had windy up windows and similar levels of stinginess inside. It adds to the appeal - great car.

well it needs a plate on the rear of the sills two tyres and a bit of a tidy up,it came with 2 new wings, 2 new full sills, some new pre made brake pipes, new wipers, and 2 rear tailgate supports, all owners manuels and sales brochure, its only done 38,000 from new and its spent all its life within 3 miles of where it was made

I have been having very strong urges towards early SD1s recently, I was seriously considering having a punt on the beige one in Scotchland last week, which I believe was also a 2.3 manual. The interiors look like such a nice place to be man, I bet you could cruise around in that all day without ever getting uncomfortable, every so often running your finger gently down the grooves in the steering wheel. Old helmet-hair really outdid himself with these.

The parts probably cover the cost if the car they're a bloody fortune. The s1 s have a much more appealing set of colours than the s2s which are 95% moonraker blue.

The back of the sills is common. The rest of it looks good .

Superb. It looks to me like whoever designed the door trim never bet on manual windows being fitted. "Shit lads, where are we going to put it?" "Oh, just lob it below the arm rest. That'll be bostin'."

I thought this was the one offered up for sale at a local old tat merchant near Quinton in Birmingham a year ir so back. Obviously not the same car having seen the plate.

all this magnificence cost me 390 of my English pounds

That looks ace, love the brown-ness of the dash. Pretty good access round everything on the engine bay too, looks a lot easier to tinker with than the V8.

Even the instruments on these are poverty spec. The 2600 and 3500 had two large rounds dials - speedo and tach - while the 2300 had just one large round dial for the speedo and was correspondingly narrower. They spent all that money on a different dash just to save the £ of a tach.

Good luck keeping the rust away. I hope you've sprayed it everywhere with waxoyl and similar stuff.

Brilliant! Brucie Bonus of being the best colour they came in, too.

At least you hav'nt got all the electronic frippery of a series 2 to worry about.

As for the sills, check the INNER ones at the rear - the trailing arms attach here and they do rot, although the steel here is thicker than the surrounding area. When they come adrift they liven up the handling of the car.

The six cylinder engine looks impressive - I sometimes think it looks like an aero engine. It always seems to be the 2300 that gives grief, more so than the 2600, 123 hp is not much to lug a big car around like an SD1. You'll be using the gearbox!

Top bombing!

It's just the 'instrument box' that sits on top of the dash that is different - the main dashboard itself is the same for all markets; ever wonder why the passenger face level air vent is bang in the middle of the passenger side of the dash where a LHD steering column would go (and vice versa for the LHD models)??? ;)

regular updates on this one please?- I have a real soft spot for the SD1, and being a pre facelift 2300 has to be seriously rare. It's lovely and a fab colour too. My 2300 was pretty sprightly up to about 50 mph then the lack of torque became noticeable in the higher gears.

I take it you know about the cylinder head/camshaft probs on these? It's not a myth, I rescued a grenaded 2600 years ago, its not pretty when they let go

Yes oman your right, these 6 pots are generally ok as long as you give them an oil and filter change every 25 miles or once a week, whichever comes sooner.

I had a yellow 3500 a couple of years ago, not my fav SD1 colour but certainly a classic period colour and better than some like avacado green

Good save scania, not many series 1 cars left, let alone 2300's, Well done!

Oh that is yes indeed.

Could you top up the break fluid though please?

Hello there   I,ll keep you all posted as to the progress of this gem  haven't done much to it  as been on my hols and moving to a new house in 2 weeks so then the fun begins  (can't wait)

My dad had a 2600 and a V8 year ago.

The hot/cold temp slider on the dahsboard mades a satisfying thump like a bass drum when you slide it down. I used to pretend to play drums with it and make the cymbol/snare sound with my mouth.
