Afternoon all, not sure if this is the done thing on this site but thought I'd introduce myself.

My names Greg and I'm from Motherwell and I've been an avid viewer of this forum for over a year now but couldn't post until now. Came across the site when I was looking at member CmS206s Flickr and he mentioned the word autoshite in reference to an old car, googled what it was and found the site.

I'm a huge fan of old cars, shite cars and some shit cars, mainly those which were brand new when I was growing up or were common back then (I'm 26 so mostly 80s and early 90s stuff) and also have quite an interest in old car dealers, although I have to confess I drive a modern car at the moment which is shit rather than shite. although always on the look out for an old cheap shite runaround, been bitten by some proper bangers in the past though so a bit wary of taking the plunge again.

Thought I'd finish with a list of my previous cars so you can see how bad/good my shite credentials are although as I say most aren't shite just shit: in order of ownership.

1. 1997 R reg Vauxhall Astra mk3 1.6 8v SPI LS 5 door in nautilus blue (passed to me by my dad who had it from 3 years old with 7k on the clock then later used as a taxi for 9 months, I tried to add some higher spec model trim to it and made a mess of it, huge learning curve)

2. 2002 51 reg Peugeot 206 1.4 8v MPI LX 5 door in light sapphire blue (with the huge sunroof) hated the rattle interior so it got traded in after 5 months

3. 2004 04 reg Renault Clio 1.2 16v Dynamique 3 door in platinum silver (loved this but it got stolen and written off)

4. 1998 S reg Hyundai Accent 1.3 12v Si Coupe 3 door in burgundy (bought this as a stop gap whilst waiting on my insurance payout whilst I worked for Arnold Clarks for £350, clutch was mega borked and It was undriveable within 3 days. My boss gave me my money back and punted it up the auctions)

5. 2005 55 reg Vauxhall Corsa 1.4 16v SXi 3 door in star silver ( closest to a new car I've ever owned)

6. 2002 52 reg Vauxhall Astra 1.6 16v Comfort 5 door in Mirage ( got bored of the Corsa)

7. 1997 P reg VW Golf 1.4 SE 3 door in burgundy ( I bent the axle on my Astra plus some cosmetic bits so bought this whilst the Astra was in the body shop, it was a special edition with silver dials and the GTi bumpers, skirts and lights but with steelies, it was an absolute shed, I bought it off a forum from a "mechanic" who had a Focus ST and used it to get to work and back who said he bought it from a customer who used to have it serviced and motd at the garage he worked at, drivers door lock was missing, rear wiper, it had rust holes on the sill only visible when you opened the drivers door, a power steering hose kept coming off leaking the fluid everywhere and it'd had a new NSF spring but part of the old one was still there so it used to clang, paid £350 and sold for £220 2 weeks later on gum tree)

8. 2005 05 reg Vauxhall Astra 1.8 16v Design 5 door in breeze blue, (traded in mk4 Astra for this and loved it, unfortunately it'd been owned by a farmer before and although body and interior immaculate underneath it was covered in mud so much so at 4.5yr old the moisture had started surface rust on the rest arches, there were loads of jiggly bits with broken clips and fixings, a dent behind the rear bumper, and both bumpers although looking in nice condition all the mountings were either broken off or snapped, and every time the fan came on the Eml also came on, took the garage a week to work out somehow or other 2 wires in the UEC were broken, I became unemployed during ownership of this car so it became a bit tatty but I had big plans to get it like brand new, I spent a fortune on new genuine parts for everything that wasn't 100% but before I had a chance to get them fitted some old bint drove into the side of it and wrote it off)

9. Current car 2009 59 reg Renault Clio 1.2 16v Dynamique 3 door in extreme blue (bought because I couldn't find anything else I liked and was in a rush for a car for work, wish I'd held out for a diesel or a bigger petrol engines one as it does less mpg than the 1.8 Astra whilst being considerably slower, in addition to that I've just got it back from being fixed after someone ran into the back of me whilst on holiday in Yarmouth)

Sorry for the essay guys

Not a bad list, but I'd go back to item 1 if I were you - possibly with Isuzu diesel power this time. ;)

^ Now you're ticklin'.

How long before the eBay tat thread gets to you and you buy a shitty old heap?  I give it six months.  You have Orions, Maestros and boggo spec Astras in your blood.

Welcome along

I'm already past that stage, I intend to buy an old heap, I actively go to car auctions and car lots that make Arthur Daleys look upmarket. Guys in my work drive sheds like Vectra Bs and Cs, e36 316 compacts, Ford Pumas and ex taxi Octavias which they hate and long to trade in for something modern and in better nick and I want to buy them tidy them up and tool about in them. You are right, shite cars are in my blood and I've seen plenty I'd love to buy when I've been skint.

Aye well.... walking into a Proton dealer - handing over a McDonalds bag full of £20s - and whizzing off in a £6k-SAVVY.... demonstrates a '$hiteist  mentality' [pre formed... paying £6k where £0.2K may quickly follow]... an appreciation of what someone might view as mingebag motoring >>> wayyyyy be4 it arrives!

Proton Dealer says 'Oh! Noooooo......' to ongoing Warranty - when 'alternative' PROTON alloy wheels added.. F*kkemm... like >> I was going to change? NAHH

Hello and welcome. Give it a few months on here and you'll be wanting to chop that Clio in for a Series 3 Allegro.

I like that Mk5 Astra, nice colour too. I must check eBay and see how cheap they are these days, quite fancy one of them.

Welcome along. Keep an eye out for the Scotoshite thread, if you fancy a night out in Cumbernauld. It's better than it sounds...

Dirt cheap tbh, they are a lot of car for the money as well, proper decent cars, solid well built cars with interiors up to VW quality, that one was an 05 1.8 Design (2nd from top spec model - Elite is the top dog) and it was loaded with kit, alloys, front fogs, everything colour coded, chrome window trims, electric mirrors and windows all round, trip computer, check control, abs/ebd/eba, 6 airbags, remote locking, leather multi function steering wheel, half leather, sports seats, auto lights, auto wipers, self dimming rear view mirror, sunvisors with lights on them, door handle lights etc loads of nice touches.

Speccing them up is dead easy too, I added cruise control by simply swapping the indicator stalk for one with the buttons, plugging in the clutch switch and changing the function from off to on with the tech 2

The colour is breeze blue which is a rare colour which they stopped doing on 55 plate.

I got £3500 from my insurance when it got written off a year ago with 73K on it and FSH to give you an idea of value, only downside is things like when a wheel bearing goes its a whole hub replacement cos its a sealed unit and they're £190 each!
