Insurance bagged. Added to current policy runs till Sept 26. Premium payable £21. Winning!

Example of the madness of insurance; quotes from normal, to f*ck me how much?

More fettling. Clutch lever free play was about 30mm, reduced to 15mm and lubed the cable. Clutch action feels nice and not too heavy.

Rear brake fluid changed at the reservoir for now, to access the bleed nipple properly the exhaust can will need to come off, so will get round to that. Res' unbolts and when moved to the outside of the frame gives good access.

Had the seat off for a clean and check, the battery is in rude health, 5min on charger to full. Original tool kit present and correct which is nice.  Wiring appears standard and not been messed with.

Coolant change has been escalated, don't like the look of that return hose, but might clean up okay... 4L of Putoline green premixed coolant ordered. 3,2L capacity.

As the front mounted radiator needs dismounted to access the coils and plugs, so will do a flush and change the coolant while I'm in there fitting these wee beauties.

Haynes manual picked up via eBay for £16, oily thumb prints included free of charge. 🕶️

A recent and fairly half-arsed attempt to start this ended in failure. It's actually been one of my most reliable bikes, you could leave it sitting a few months and it'd fire into life on demand.

Anyway, a little fuel and a boost pack didn't get it going a few weeks back, so today I just added a little bit more fuel and a boost pack and twigged one carb was very gently leaking from the float bowl. Gave it a tap, tried it with the choke off and what do you know, it fired up! I bet anything with a charged/better/new battery I'll be riding that again.

I finally own my bedroom poster bike! Needs a bit of love but it's a great base, 3 owners from new, 45k miles.

Thanks, I agree on both counts, need to drain the fuel and put fresh in, rebuild front calipers then get it in for a test.

They look better now than they did in the period. A couple of mates had these at the time and I have to say, looked a bit weird next to our collection of bikes.

Now, I think they look ace. I'd really like a jelly mould CBR600 myself at this point. Yours being the 1000 just means it can stretch your arms at the turn of  wrist, nice 😁

I was talking to a fella with a Voge 900 yesterday. He really rated it, it's got cruise control, built in sat nav and all kinds of stuff, apparently. 'The engine is the same as the BMW except for the badge and they're made in the same factory'.

They do seem quite reasonably priced, be interesting to see how they are and what money they're fetching when they're a bit older.  Meanwhile, might try and book a test ride on a TRK502 to see how it compares to the GS310.

I bumped into some fellas with voges at a cafe and they couldn't rate them highly enough, millions of bells and whistles, which is the thing that kind of puts me off, worrying about the longevity of the Chinese radar systems etc. 😬

This is the standard Voge owner reply, mate of mine has a Voge Rally 800 and says the same thing! 😂

Handily pre stretched from the FJ12! I just hope I like this, at least my mates first words on seeing it were "I'll buy that off you" so no problem if it doesn't live up to expectations

With the man at the ministry.

It's had new chain and sprockets, swingarm changed to less rusty one from spares pile. New lock set, number plate, carb ultrasonic clean and balance. New rear brake master and new brake fluid all round.

First time riding it, it almost like a 2 stroke in that it's half asleep till 7000rpm when it suddenly gets a rocket up the arse and takes off. Dunno if that's normal for one of these. Rides well enough anyway, fingers crossed for the verdict.

I had a 94 model with the linked brakes. The engine in these is an absolute peach!

That is normal, they thrive on revs.

That's almost the spit of my old CBR600, same colour scheme (mine was a bit more foxed though). Genuinely brilliant machines, so well put together, fun to ride and quick enough for most riders. The cornering balance was amazing, even I could scrape my kneesliders.

I think these got regarded as a bit of an old man's bike, presumably because the Fireblade had just come out. But they are lovely to ride and much more nimble than you'd expect. I had a play on my friend's one once and was very impressed.

They were selling them in my dad's shop and he took me on a very "spirited" run to donington park on the back of one (he was an advanced motorcycle instructor, ex traffic cop) and I was smitten mate, to be fair, no matter what anyone's opinion is, I'd run out of talent way before it ran out of capability.

That's the rub though. Blokes (regardless of their hobby) tend to fixate on things designed to improve their performance, whilst ignoring the fact that the main factor is themselves. A good rider on an old Bandit 600 will run rings around an average rider on something with all the bells and whistles.

A CBR1000F is a perfectly good capable bike for the 99% of us who aren't Barry Sheene.

Woof. That is gorgeous on the gold wheels.

VFRs with a good fruity exhaust are possibly the best sounding bike ever.

Nearly bought a very late one of these about 20+ years back.  I’d had my first BMW dump truck R1100RS for a bit over a year, and had had enough of it’s various issues and very agricultural engine so I’d sold it.  A dealer had a CBR1000 listed, but they’d sold literally the day before I could go look at it.  The following weekend at my local club ride I got talking to another member who told me about his neighbour selling a 2 year old Blackbird for a very decent price. I couldn’t get round quick enough.  Owned that one 9 years taking it to nearly70k, then another for the next 5 years adding about 20k.  An offer of a bargain St1300 Pan demoted it to the point it wasn’t worth keeping it.  So I replaced it with a bargain £1200 project Blackbird which is still a project Blackbird!!! One day..one day.  My second Pan is on it’s way out soon too.  Since buying a second Tenere I just can’t justify keeping it, and need to reduce the debt the new Tenere has created.  Sold my Bandit last night, so now need to prep the Pan and once that’s gone I’ve a nice old CBR6 in Castrol Honda colours which needs to go too.

I'd be interested in that CBR...
