Additional rank moped update:

Here are a few daylight pics of the zip I picked up a couple of weeks ago.

Cosmetically pretty rank, it's been a cat C and it looks like it's been painted in olive drab, then painted over again in something close to the original colour.

Also, what is the deal with the vertical numberplate? Seems really popular round here but just looks daft.

The no spark was quickly diagnosed as CDI, as it's a 4 stroke parts are harder to come by. I ordered one off ebay only for myhermes to lose the thing, seller was spot on and refunded me but it took a while to sort out and I'm still waiting for the next one I ordered to turn up (from Greece FFS.)

Meanwhile I am considering finding a 2-stroke lump to put in, as the 4 strokes are reportedly hopelessly slow, even without an 18st chimp riding.

Something like this should* just bolt in, with some minor faffing with wires, (and would fly with a sports exhaust) but it could equally be a load of arseache, there are precious few details on the internet of 4t>2t swaps. I must try and remember this was meant to be a cheap runner while I fix up that CBR600.

Hey - I'll tell you what - that Hairdrier SH50 whilst not rapid, filters bloody well due to its diminutive size - what usually takes an hour to drive home took 20 minutes thanks to its filtering ability - feels like its "restricted" at its top end, not that Im right arsed about that, but I remember the SGX50 I had that always felt that it ran out of puff rather than being throttled by something.

In other news Mrs Womble not entirely happy about the sudden abundance of bikes here so the Moby is up for grabs at what I paid if anyone is interested ( its now in PR5 land Preston).

Comment from right hand side of the couch.... "oh that looks quite nice!"

What's the details on this little number?

Isn't it just that the rear mudguard has been snapped off and the plate's been bodged onto whatever's left?

Quality rank ped anyway - flaking paint, badly removed stickers, checkerplate footboards (lethal when wet) 787/10

1979 Mobylette Motobecane M40

50cc of raw power

Someone from the local 50cc group wants it, but hasnt been back in touch with me - I'll give him a week and if there is no further word from him I'll let you know.

If anyone fancies a classic ped project I brought this 1965 Motobecane back from France best offer on ebay is £250 so far. It is very original and turns over with good compression but no spark.

I also have a 1953 Peugeot 55tc 125cc twin port 2 stroke. It has been repainted and has a couple of bits missing and is seized. £450 reserve.

Wife decide that she wanted something from.Morrison's this morning so rather than arse about with the car I took the ped.

Initially deadder than a can of spam. But no worries kicked on the first go and then off we went. I neither worry or care about the battery.

Did 40 miles just for the hell of it today. Slow it may be but I'm having more fun on this than I Did with the CB500bb92bb00096bf8a9c0ed6a6f455fc51f.jpg

Surprised at the battery being flat, it's probably only a year old :( I checked that the bike was charging OK too, so it shouldn't be that. Glad to hear the kickstart is good though, I didn't touch that as it was so stiff.

I have done a bit more on the Caren today, with a bit of Asda Multi Spray and the flywheel cover off, the crank was unstuck. It turns freely now, and there's no vertical play in the rod, so I'm going to leave the bottom end as is and try and get the well seized piston out of the barrel. The latter is shagged - several fins have simply rotted off, as has the exhaust mounting. I've knocked up this Heath Robinson arrangement involving a can of diesel and a ratchet strap in order to try and loosen it off:

The engine number is the same as the frame number if I remember correctly so it is original. The rims are ok but lots of flaking chrome on them. All the engines look the same to me but this one is a pain in the arse as you have to get the pulley off to get at the points. I expect they just need a clean up to get it going but the nut on the pulley is pretty chewed up and I don't really want to spend a lot of time on it. I hope I can get my money back on it and a little profit without doing anything.

Hi,

Would you post a picture of the other side of the engine please?  pulley off just needs this screw in puller on this ere shelf if it's a  Moby engine.  Are you inconveniently some where like Somerset?

These are all I have in the way of pictures at the moment I can do some more tomorrow. Yes I am in Somerset but can get it up to Bristol over the weekends if that helps.

I really wouldnt worry about it - its been sat over a week in the wind and rain yet started up OK on the kick and once I'd had a little jaunt was starting OK on the button after that.

Is it bonkers though to enjoy pootling around on something this small rather than a big bike? If it had a wee bit more "oomph" for hills it would be damn near perfect.

Just sold it this evening the guy who is buying it bought the last French ped from me for display purposes. I am not too worried what they do with it to be honest but the profit is paying for some of my trip

Yesterday I spotted this Indian in a garage and it caught my eye. As it was a 17 plate I was Surprised that Indian still sold Motorcycles so looked it up, it is a Roadmaster and they have UK dealers! I obviously liked it more that I would admit as I checked out the DVLA and they are 69 taxed in the UK. The engine appears to be a 1800cc V-Twin, is that smooth or can you shake a Martini?

I rode a pals Indian Chief, with the 1800cc engine and it was pretty smooth from what I remember.

Surprised at the battery being flat,

Further investigateative* work seems to suggest the battery is in fact perfectly fine its the starter motor thats  being a dick.

After getting a parking ticket at work yesterday when loading the car during my permitted half hour* on site to do such things I decided to brave* the weather and use the hairdrier this morning - sure enough it was "dead" however kicking it ( literally) saw it fire up on the starter button - ergo I deduce that the starter motor is a bit sticky ( i know it can need jiggling to turn over anyway, so this just seems progression)  I think I'll have a look at the kicker to see why so stiff ( fnnar fnnar) as I never used to use the electric start on bikes that had a kick anyway. So TL:DR - battery fine, starter a bit iffy.

More biking memories on here - Love it!!

Last few bikes were a Brand new 2004 Bandit 600, I loved this and regret selling it..

GSX750F on a 51 plate  smooth as ,. but my back hated it...so this was swapped for a XJ900 Divvy...lovely bike..but divorce meant it was swapped for a diesel freelander :(

Currently own a chinese XOR125 scoot 2008 and brought for the sum of £40...been sat in my moms garage for 18 months waiting for me to actually care enough to go and get it running..

Past bikes have included 3 CZ's (2 x 125 and 1 x 175) 1 mz250, several honda cubs, cb100, xl100, numerous CG125's, vespa 50 with 70cc kit fitted, Kwak z750 twin with a 2 into 1 fitted with a cherry bomb and 14" ape bars .. RD250DX, several KH250's, XS250 and xs750, GSX750EF..and a yellow reliant trike..

would love another cz...a 350 if i can find one at the right price prefer one with sidecar for added gits and shiggles

or a 175 in nato green.....

A little like Triumph, modern Indians only share their name with the 'original' ones. Indian's are made by Polaris (of skidoo fame) who also made the equally vulgar Victory motorbikes. They have dropped the Victory brand to concentrate on Indians. Roadtests have been fairly complimentary and rate them as being as good as or better than those other behemoths made in the US of A.

Purley personal comment but they are faux gin palaces to my eye and just perpetuate the whole cultural imperialism which has been mentioned some pages previous to this one...

Had a shot of a Honda spacy yesterday, flipping loved it.

So smooth and fast compared to my LML, and the styling is even more bonkers in the flesh.

Sadly it wouldn’t be any good when the ULEZ comes in or I’d get one. Looks like I’ll be keeping the LML as a long termer given that it’s euro 4 compliant (or at least it was until I derestricted it and removed the cat)..

Yo Marty, do I remember you saying you were interested in one of those Riders Super Cub jobbies?

s-l1600.jpg

It's in sunny Wakefield, just up the road from here, so if you want it looking over LMK?

Cheers ears

On my watch list

There is another faux cub in Devon but this is nearer.

Looking at bigger capacity scoots as may need something for a job change in a few weeks.

Depends on traffic

What do you think the chances are of you getting stopped for running about with the wrong reg number on? Especially if that reg is taxed/ tested/ insured..

Sold the 2 bikes I brought back from France and have bought a more modern UK bike. It is currently stuffed in the back of the 806 and only just fits, Photo's on Monday

Well, they may have real, live cops driving around in Londinium. Round here, however, I would say that the chances of getting caught doing what you suggest would be zero squared.

They are are great little scooters, with real character to boot. Would definitely have another one if the opportunity arose.
