Was in the pub last night, rare enough event by itself, but then this came chugging along the river!

Never seen one of these before

Very confused by Serbian plates on it as well, must’ve been imported when it was next to new as Serbia banned US imports ages ago.

US market Toyota Solara coupe, based on the Camry.  They also did a convertible version.  As dull and ponderous as the Camry it’s based on.

I have no idea why anyone would go to the trouble to ship such an unremarkable car halfway across the world?

Funnily enough I also saw one of these today, albeit worse for wear and in estate format

They aren't that bad I think, you could even have a TRD supercharger kit installed by the dealer for these, with factory warranty and everything. I think you could even get them with a manual and V6.

Nevermind the manual was only available with the 4-cylinder.

It certainly looks cool.

Based on the probable import date, I’m guessing an expat coming home for an extended time or US Embassy staff in Serbia bringing his/her then relatively new car, and just leaving it here?

Nope, Solara. You can make it out in the second photo if you zoom in.

I’ve had a couple of Camrys as hire cars in North America and I think you would say they’re perfectly adequate but extremely dull. The most recent had a 2.5l 4 pot with 178bhp , but seemed to have less performance than a 140bhp Passat.

I popped to a local car show today. Good variety of stuff but this was amazing.

Good boot space too, so practical too. Another reason to buy one.

Despite being a later car it may still be suffering from dashboard issues.

Nope.  Toyota Soarer/Lexus SC was rear-drive.   The North American built Solara was a front-drive Camry underneath.

Officially, the full name was Toyota Camry Solara but everyone knew it simply as the Toyota Solara.

There’s a Wikipedia page on the Solara but, for some strange reason, I am unable to post a link to it using my phone.

Thanks, the Solara was a new one on me, if not a Talbot.

A very lazy spot. The real question is ,  how did it get there ?  It is on the 38th floor of an apartment building in Auckland NZ . The place is for sale and this appears in the photos.

1/3801 Courthouse Lane, City Centre, Auckland City, Auckland (trademe.co.nz)

EDIT......This was in the TV news last night, it was got there in pieces and by Helicopter. AND  it is not a car. It is actually a bed, the roof and rear deck are hydraulically raised and there is a king -sized bed from behind the front seat to the rear. Under the hood is a wine bar instead of a v8. The platform also rotates.

Not sure which I would rather have if I were a thrusting junior exec... Both absolutely spotless.

Absolute giffer spec DS! I saw this being driven up to a holiday park/lake by an old couple with the man smoking a cigar. I wanted to go and ask them about the car but as I went to walk over he hopped out and started taking a pee in the car park bush, so I decided to leave it.

I’m pretty chuffed with this spot, it’s got to be a dying breed of owner and survivor car.

For heritage week the National Transport Museum of Ireland had a bit of an open day. Nothing like the automotive museums across the pond unfortunately. Just a load of buses and trucks crammed into a few sheds, all maintained by volunteers and (AFAIK) with 0 government funding…

On holiday in Sofia, Bulgaria. Not a lot of tat surprisingly, but did find a few gems...

Heroic lacquer peel and shonky paint on this xantia, a 1.6i too for bonus misery points.

This Passat looks to be held together purely with the owners hopes and dreams. Gloriously terrible.

Spotted this trio of turds whilst on a trip to the Buzludzha monument.
