The New Pad is coming along

Well, have moved, am a little more settled, two hundred or so boxes have been emptied and another hundred or so remain and I have started attacking the garage and workshop area, and am starting to store away stuff in there and generally make it a little more workmanlike.

So, as you all know, I purchased a house in the wilds of Gloucestershire, in the Forest, no less! In bred jokes can start now.

Here it is

It started off life as a pub - and dates from before 1756, then became a butcher's, a blacksmith's, a dairy, an ice cream factory, a musical instrument repair workshop and now our house.

Car parking can be classed as 'adequate'

I'd say I could fit at least one other car in this space!

the house itself is big, so big we have two rooms we don't know what to do with them!

The garage is a reasonable size too - if still full of stuff at the moment.

I have only just started to fill the loft - it has some car panels in it, nothing more, just now.

But we have the following spaces!

Garage itself, which I am endeavouring to keep empty of everything apart from three cars.

even space for the scooter - note the rather sorry for itself Bond - I hadn't seen it in its old shed for about four years!

The dexion racking you see here is part of a bay of three foot square shelves that will help form a 9ftx3ft workbench in the entrance to the workshop area

All I need to do is clear this area of all this stuff ...

Off the front workshop is a proper store ...

I inherited the shelving on the left and that on the right came from my old study - it even has light and power.

Today, I went to the tip with a load of packing materials and saw this in the small electrical appliances section - there was even a brand new stylus sitting with it - it was swiftly loaded into the car. It all works but I do need to find a pair of speakers for it.

Nice, I work in Worcester, so will have to come and perv...look at some point. :-)

Good stuff! Oddly I've been in Leominster for the past two days. Worcester looks a lot like York in need of a lick of paint.

Leo-minster aaaaah.

Come to Bewdley, by 3.9v8 4x4's. be me. !

Went through Bewdley on the way home - passed Tanc Barratt's. And I got told off for not saying 'Lemster' when I did my PTC.

there is bucketloads of old chod in the village too - it's an autoshiter's dream.

At least two metros - one across the road and the other further along, parked next to a Silver Shadow, couple of Moggie Minors, Standard 10, land rovers, Marcos convertible, Alfa Spyder, Celica 4x4, Celica convertible, K11 Micra, a 50s thing under a tarpaulin, old Audis, a 1970s VW Bug custom and lots more...

By all means come visit, the kettle is always on!

My best time on the 25 mile commute is 41 minutes too!

Yay, Bypass? Or through town?

And yep, deffo lemster :-)

interestingly, when I show people pics and the guess the price it seems to be £350-500,000 that gets bandied about! Everyone is shocked and surprised when I mention it was only £250,000.

In all seriousness, I'd be jealous too ...

I thought it was 'lominster' - the 'leo' pronounced like the 'yeo' in Yeovil. Alas, a friendly local put me right and said I 'still got closer than the fugging BBC.'

Er, through Kidderminster - A456 - M5 - M6 - home. On the way down I did the M6 Toll to avoid some shitty queues between J11 and 8 on the M6. Added 30 miles to my journey but only got stuck once going through Worcester.

Hmmm, interesting. I need to move to that area.

Like the amount of room. It looks sweeeet.

I am jealous after moving from my old place with big drive and mega garage

Driveway.gif

To the driveway of dooooooooom!

IMAG0272.jpg

You cant even get how steep that is in the photo. Its pretty bad.

Mrs Imp crashed her car into the wall today coming down the drive. Had to clip the bumper back on tonight. She will need some touching up (ooer). Cant see why people are so bothered about getting down the drives round here. Next door are a right pair of poofs as they both park on the road taking up much needed space. Surely, driving down an incline is easier to do as you only needs to reverse and brake, not accelerate reverse and brake like you do on a flat drive?

Very nice indeed.

I need to move there too - £250k gets you a two-bedroom flat around here.

What a great house, if I had a spare room I would have a room as a library and if I had two in the second I would build a model railway.

the 20 odd foot hallway upstairs if almost five feet wide in bits - it is the library! There are about 2000 books in it already

I've been here four weeks and have yet to enter the loft spaces.

That looks like a wonderful place to live. I've always dreamed of living out in the sticks. Maybe one day? I envy the garage space!

Posted

I'm not jealous. Not at all.

A house like that would be at least 400K round here. I need to move.

Posted

Bugger me sideways. £250k gets you a three bed semi with a garage around here.

That place looks ace. I pass through that area regularly and it does have a lot of charm. I'm fond of Ross on Wye too.

Property round there is serious value. We almost bought a cottage in Mitcheldean 3 years ago. Sadly it fell through as our buyer was a complete cock who had lied significantly to Natwest on her mortgage application

Do like that area though, would still move down there if I could.

What a great place & nice history!

One spare room for the ghost I guess (pub, butcher, blacksmith - people will have died so there should be a ghost right? ) and one for shiters who have to hide from their other half after another mad purchase or breakdown?

Nice. I've got a cheap, lovely place in the countryside but I dream of garage and work space like that! I can't complain too much though really...

Posted
Your place looks fantastic. I hate you.

WHS :P

What they said! That's got Shiter's House all the way through it, well bought. Oh, and I have a pair of speakers you're welcome to if we can arrange some sort of relay between the Frozen North and where you are. Will you be at Arley Hall?

Nice hovel you got there, Cam. 8)

I remember moving into my place, I had the hi-fi and the TV all wired up before I had my clothes in the wardrobe or any of the kitchen stuff (apart from the kettle) unpacked.

Very nice. v.jealous.

wot, no stupid rants because this is not a car related thread?

Lol

It is car related. ;-)

There aren't any pics of the inside of the house but lots of the garage and its contents. Am looking forward to having real space to work on the cars. I am working on the workbench made of dexion at the moment. It'll be 8ft x 3ft and has two double plugs so the pillar drill, vice and bench grinders will finally have a home. Sunday I will get the wood top for the workbench.

More pics as the workshop gets tidier at the weekend.

Well, I am using up the old dexion shelving to build a workbench in the lobby area of the man cave.

So far I have chopped about two bits of the shelving and created this, which will effectively create an 8ft x 3ft bench once I have got a piece of 18mm chipboard cut to fit. May do that at the weekend.

We started with this space:

IMG_1315 by messerschmitt owner, on Flickr

yes, it was full of boxes and it was soon emptied!

cleared it looked a bit more like this!

IMG_1331 by messerschmitt owner, on Flickr

Then we got rid of the pallets - they will end up on the woodburner soon.

The last section needs built up but I have been kept busy inside the house - today we had the plumbers in fitting a shower cubicle upstairs and a new shower downstairs. Both are plumbed in but the electrician is along tomorrow to wire them in.

So we are currently at this stage!

IMG_1334 by messerschmitt owner, on Flickr

The shelves should take all of the electrical tools and there are four plugs already in place for the bench grinder, pillar drill and anything else I can sort.

It didn't half make a difference in the garage when I moved the three sets of 3ft x 2ft6 shelving from there.

I will have a couple of shelves left over and may remove the smaller middle bay of shelving from the bench once the work surface is on it. That way I can fit the compressor underneath.

I have popped up some pics too, and got the model display case, Pirelli calendar and futon into the office. The Autoshite calendar is in the garage itself.
