The "Is it worth a neg?" thread.

Let's start this off with this pearl, on £620 with less than 20 minutes to go - it's got an MOT, it's rare in that it's original (bar the wheels but they're not bad) and it's only 20 or so miles from me but I haven't arsed myself enough to go and have a shufty at it, seeing as I expected its price to scened out of all proportion by now - if bidding doesn't go mental in the last minute or so, is it worth winning it then taking a big fat neg from the vendor if it is a lemon?

I'll say no. If you haven't had the time to go and have a look then you either have to accept the seller's description or just bid accordingly. If it's cheap enough and you win it it's a no lose situation. No idea what these things are worth so hopefully you (as a bidder) would, but if you look carefully the vendor has typed 'cills' instead of 'sills'. That alone should render him something of a shoeing.

from my experience of a nobjockey that refused to sell me a car as it went for less than he wanted (in the AUCTION  )

there does not appear to be any obligation in ebay's t+c's for either side to complete a transaction for vehicles or 'real estate'

seller cant neg but could leave bad words, buyer can neg feedback though

I think that has changed in the past few weeks.

That would be great, any evidence of this? I love negging non-paying twats.

It went for £820, it was at £640 with 30 seconds to go but someone else wanted it more. I hope it doesn't end up irreversibly fucked with. :?

I'm sure it was mentioned in one of the emails that eBay send out. I'll see if I can find anything on the site about it.

only business sellers (i.e. paying at least 15 quid a month) can neg buyers

Turns out my "bids" didn't even get registered, as there's no mention of it in my "didn't win" column so no chance of a second chance offer either. That's the second time in a week that eBay have pulled cunt's tricks out of the bag.

Ah, that must be what I read. I didn't pay a lot of attention because I don't sell and I don't mess people about when I buy.

TBH, if it were the other way round, I think you'd be calling the buyer some rude words.

I know I would.

Biz sellers can't neg either. I think the message you're thinking of was the one that said coming soon sellers can tick a box for this buyer tried to shaft me because...., and if the buyer shafts 4.9 gajillion sellers in any 7 minute period they will be told to stop being a naughty boy.

Bought a Triumph Toledo a couple of days ago, only made aware of it in the last few minutes of the auction so I had nothing to go on but the owners slightly vague description. Only paid £200 for it and collected it on Saturday. Despite the described engine woes it was better than described IMHO. Result. Positive feedback all round. Some times it works out just dandy, sometimes not. If you can't view then you takes yer chances.

^ Correct. Business sellers can't leave negatives sadly. There is going to be a stronger, tougher reporting system for sellers to report bad buyers but if its anything like the current system then its really hard to get ebay to do very much at all.

Absolutely.

Aye, every time I have bought a car unseen I have bitten the bullet. Only if it was totally not as described would I tell him to jog on and find some other loser to buy it. I bought it unseen so its my problem now. If someone did it to me I would probably deck them.

If I was not getting a new boiler fitted on the following Tuesday I would have lumped the chap that bought my Scenic for wasting my time. He did me over by £100. CNUT.

I once bought a 200sx on ebay which cooked its headgasket by the time I got home. To this day I'm certain I checked the rad, which probably meant he put fresh coolant in there. Yes I was mighty pissed, but more with myself for not seeing it and knew it I had no chance of a claim. So I just bit the bullet and got it fixed

I'm another in the bid then you buy camp. I've had people pull out of 'that auction site' car sales before (over email without actually ever coming to see the car  ) it's just not cricket.

Buying unseen is a great sport and the lottery of will it won't it get me home always makes for an adventure, even if it's a uneventful haste free journey. I've always paid what I've bid and would only create if I felt the listing was inaccurate in any way. Sometimes what not is written tells a story too, questions can always be asked before the auction ends mind.

The vag thing looked alright, schultz always rings alarm bell though!

My Bleubird was bought unseen on the basis of a crap listing, and it turned out to be even better than expected. Even though you may not think it if you're waiting for the AA to turn up ,in a way it's part of the fun. But one upside with the no negs from buyers ifs that you can safely walk away if the car does turn out to be a dog

Posted

I hate that sellers now cant leave negs because it means there's a lot more timewasters out there now who've nothing to lose.

Folk will bid now to win the auction just to have a look as and when they can be arsed and as seller you then have to hold the car until they get round to seeing it, possibly knocking back other offers , then they toddle round a week or more later and decide for whatever reason its not for them and seller is back to square one. Crap.

IMO You bid , you buy - or you're a twat - unless its substantially not as described.

Posted

That was my idea - if the car turned out to be a complete dog and not capable of being roadworthy without major welding, then it would be a case of "substantially not as described".

I will be keeping a good look out on VZi and UKPassats as I suspect that within a couple of months it may well be substantially not as described, i.e. nitromorsed, chopped springzorz and on banded steelz, yo.
