Mr Bols big tat-filled day

Excellent thread and to echo everyone else - DO IT!

And in all honesty, given the amount of metalwork you've done so far on the Maser then this needs hardly anything in comparison. Get the Avenger sold and get cracking on this.

I think i'm gonna have to crash mrB's Austin 1300 party and post up some pics of my example!

The 1300 looks like toast, but the Alfa is ultramagarare - not a 2000 GTV, but either a 1600 or 1800GT. Vinyl seats and no chrome strip across the grille. Lovely.

Hey Bol, here's some pics of those terminally rotten Austins in Sandbach. All sadly gone now.

Millbuck way, dangerously close to Sandbach metals!

Ah I guess that's where they ended up then! There used to be another Scrap Yard in Sandbach which was on the crossroads of Congleton Road and The Hight Street, long gone now(and houses on it).

If you've got the space to store it, then definitely get it home safely. I reckon you need to clear some of the other chod out before attempting the weldathon though.

And don't mix radials and crossplys when you get it on the road!

"Remember Crossplys and Radials just Don't Mix" I wonder if that's what Mr. B looks like?

Boll. Only you will know if an 1100 will do it for you now. Is it likely that you'll get half way through & wonder what you're doing?

You certainly seem to prefer ''rarities'' now -and certainly like a challenge. So, now you can manufacture & recreate the impossible, are you going to be happy tacking repro panels to a bog stocker?

You HAVE to save this Mr B.

Are the wheels the 98.25.392.1/2.GR8.00000001mm type on these or mini fitment?

What does Alan do? He looks like he had a nice set up there! :)

Blimey, some wise words there from the Bickleodeon. You're absolutely right that an 1100 is kind of a 'back in the day' car for me, not exactly the sort of thing that gets my juices flowing nowadays. But, I do quite like the idea of going back 20 yrs later and sorting out a load of stuff that completely defeated me as a youngster, I remember the moral churnings I had about what to do with the car when i could not even weld or pump up a hydrolastic! Now i'm sure I could get this sorted to a decent standard so I'm tentatively feeling I should JFDI.

You welded up that crab though, which is nearly as "everyday" as this 1100.

You set this 1100 free, and it came back to you, so you were destined to be together. BOLLS N 1100 4 EVA.

Great thread and story!

I can't add anything of use, but it has a family name, so I think it deffo deserves a chance!

I have seen how capable you are from recent threads. The Ital story stuck in my mind.

Fucking YAY!

After four pages of encouragement, it would be rude not to. Get in there!

I love ADO16s having learned to drive on one that had been in the family from new. But they were terrible for rusting and yours is too. In the pictures every single panel has rust marks on it and the underbonnet sight is frightening. It will burn up too much time and £££. Despite my ADO16 love I say forget it and concentrate on finishing your other projects.

UPDATE!

Ifter giving this idea a good, hard, sustained MULLING OVER i decided that there was no credible way i could do this 1100. I could not look at it till the Maser is done, which is not going to be this side of Christmas. Thus it would be sitting outdoors over winter, after which it would be fit only for the bridge. So I discussed it with LankyTim and it seemed to me that he would make better use of it as a source of bits for his own unrusty but incomplete 1100.

Today we set off with LT's alloy trailer/Saab 9-5 Turbo combo to bring it back to base. Set off at 7.45, had a mega painless trip up the M6 and over hartside pass and by lunchtime we were loaded up:

Heres the classic 'Danny Whatnot from PC magazine buying more shit' purchase shot:

Whizzed it back down the M6 and was home in time for tea.

An enjoyable day out scratting which even involved a roast lamb butty, chips and a pint at a local pub. Lovely!

It certainly would have joined the CND (Campaign for Natural Dismemberment) if you'd left it outside and at least LT can make use of the parts and keep another on the road.

I must admit, it does seem a shame it's being broken, as it was your first car and that.

Posted

That was the humane thing to do. Make sure no part is wasted, everything is saved, sold, given away etc.

Tis a bit of a shame but I'm glad to see if it'll help Tim's live on.

Time to PM Tim and see what bits will be left over
