She is extremely clean and tidy, no major faults, drives really nice and has a little fire left in her belly!magnumdoor2.pngmagnumarch1-1.pngMagnumrearwithvalves3312.jpg

Count me in, I love it!

Love these. In fact, I think I like all the Vauxhalls from this era, the styling on them is great.

Lovely. When Vauxhalls were Vauxhalls. I had a '76 Viva E Coupe with 1256cc of pure Luton gristle.

Posted

That is flippin' lovely! My uncle had a Viva 1800 GLS estate, I think that was the run-out rebadged version of the Magnum. It was some weapon compared to my Dad's Escort 1300L estate...

Posted

That is really nice.

What ones of these got the Droop Snoot? Were they a special model, I know nothing about them? I prefer it without the Droop Snnot by the way, I have always felt its a bit vulgar looking even if it looks totally K-Tel now.

I know the ones you mean, think they were all purple with the droop snoot front end.

They had a special name too, there was one over by Offham Scrapyard for years.

EDIT : Sportshatch, was right about colour but forgot the red stripe. Not the beer the go faster accoutriment!

the droop snoot ones were called "sports hatch" IIRC and now worth pots of cash. usually either silver or black with red pinstriping and minilite type wheels. a very limited edition

Thats great, nice one. My friends mum had a Magnum 1800 saloon in the late 80's with a black interior. Very comfy car which had a very sporty exhaust note IIRC. Unfortunately she ended up scrapping it due to a crack in the engine block!

That is a cracking car, Really nice, I'd love to see some better photos of it though!

Posted

Love the estate ones of these, the rear side windows are enormous!

Here's a droop snoot..

Nice.

A mate of mine has one of these squirrelled away in the dusty old ex chicken shed he rents. His car is a Magnum 1.8 estate in a sort of primrose yellow colour.Although I haven't seen it, he says there is a droop snoot front for it which the previous owner gave him when he bought the car.

That's cool, must be as rare as a rare thing. I'll admit I never knew of that model name. The droop snoot version is wicked; weren't they raced ?

Posted

Top bombing Steve - can't wait to see it in the summer when I come for a swim....:-)

Posted
Hello fella.... fancy seeing you here.... :D

I thought I recognised the name on the viva forum lol, small world! :D

Posted
Not shite? It's hardly a bloody Rolls-Royce is it? Lovely.

Compared to some of the shite I have owned and considering how little rust she has I can almost smell the deep pile Wilton and see a silver lady on the bonnet

Look forward to it, hope the TR is behaving. I am loving the Magnum though missing the TR mpg

Bloody hell, that's nice.

FIRENZA - bloody name escaped me, been driving me barmy for days.

A Viva droop snoot coupe!

Posted

I make no bones about it, I really do love Vauxhall's of early-mid seventies vintage. That is a seriously nice Magnum! You really can't beat the quad headlamps. :D

My late grandfather, a former Vauxhall employee, had one from new for 23(ish) years. MXD 689K - which has been pictured here once or twice before, knocking around the odd classic show. Really nice car and have many happy memories of it when growing up. It was a ‘proper’ Firenza though - before the droop snoot (quad headlamps). It started life as the 1159cc and was quickly changed very early on in it's life to the heady 1256cc!

Posted

That is magnificent. Mate of mine has a magnum in his garage that's been sat since 1997. He's got a droop snoot front to go on it too. Lovely cars

Posted

That's lovely. If you're going to have a 70s car you want one with a proper medallion man sounding name: MAGNUM YEAH BABY

I've got a Datsun Violet.......

Posted

Why does everybody want to stick a bloody droop snoot front on every Viva/Firenza/Magnum? Unless it's an original snoot or sportshatch, you'll have a much rarer car if you leave it stock.

There were only 525 2.3 Magnum coupes built - and there are a lot fewer survivors than there are original snoots.

Leave that estate exactly as it is!!

Agreed... i like the flat front magnums much more than over priced plastic cars.
