Tactical assault on the local Tesco tonight revealed some Matchbox nearly as stale as their yellow-sticker pains au chocolat...

Finally, a sniff of those Mk1 Golfs from last year - plus more of the Subaru Sambar, that metallic green Cadillac convertible, the pale green Ford pickup... who knows where this box has been lurking all this time?

No Civics, still. And definitely no Healeys or anything new and exciting like that.

Hot Wheels tub still looking pretty desolate.

Unless you really want the GoPro chassis, or the stunt wheelchair in either short or long card. Or the weird stretched Jeep-dragster thing.

In terms of multipacks, was someone here after a Top Gun pack? Was it the one on the left?

They only had the one. Still a fiver on these.

Nine-packs had some hot Datsun action going in both of them. I approve.

Some of the same stuff that's available in the single packs, and has been for some time - like the metallic pink Thunderbird.

I came away with these... but on reflection I think I might already have them. Somewhere.220658918_IMG_20201013_2256062.thumb.jpg.10ff7409560857c798944515fe5557a4.jpg

Ah well. The world looks like it's kinda going extra-weird right now, so I guess having surplus Matchbox isn't the worst thing ever...

Want me to pick up a Civic and a Healey, Tim?

Posted

I went into a market town Tesco yesterday and saw a reasonable amount of new-ish stuff. Amongst them they had several Civics and the Austin-Healey, I came away with a Sambar (which turned out to be a duplicate!) and '95 Nissan Hardbody.

Also got Hot Wheels Kia Stinger and plain red '89 Mazda Savanna RX-7.

Our Tesco was a dead loss. Loads of 5 packs, quite a few of the Top Gun ones,  but absolutely no single Matchbox cars, don't think they're bothering with them anymore. ☹️

At least they've gone back to Hot Wheels rummage boxes, albeit a couple of cases old.

Not seen those before - my local one has the version with the green/silver 59 Chevy wagon.

There's one with two colours of T3 VW coming out at some point

Sun is out, traders are not.. Drove to the boot sale earlier to be confronted with an empty field. If there isn't one next week then I think the season is over.

Anyone after any Matchbox?,going to try & get to the Tesco where I found the box with the Civics in tomorrow.

These.  As many as you can carry.  They are like the Matchbox equivalent of pandemic bog roll

Newly acquired Ghia V8 with doggie - and suitcases!

Seems to have been at the hands of a hot rodder so now has a slam job, but it's staying that way as it looks mean

Well obviously, it's a parcel, duh.  In this case, a parcel from Mr Tenmil Socket of this here parish, containing the following...

Nice eh?  Far better than I was expecting!  I was planning to paint the Jag yellow a la New Avengers Canadian episodes, but it's much too good for that, so it'll stay as-is.  The Ford Cargo, I just wanted because it was a livery I didn't have, and again, it's in very good shape, so it's going straight on the shelves as-is.

Thank you good sir!

I didn't have much success, but the little bottles of thinner from Wilko work a treat

Tried a different Tesco this morning, in Eaglescliffe, on the way to work.

Nope, not a single solitary Matchbox to be found! Give up now!

Did Dinky France have their own factory in France?

The reason i ask is that some of the models shown are the same as in the English range ,while there are others that were unique to Dinky France.

That catalogue is after Meccano went bust and had been taken over by Lines Bros/Triang,

Now triang did have a factory in Calais (which was kinda Margate's "twin") which is why there are Frog models included on the catalogue.

Yes at Bobigny, just outside Paris.

When Lines went bust,  it didn't take the French Meccano concern with it.  The French business that was established by Frank Hornby in 1912 survives even today.

Airfix Industries purchased the Meccano business in the UK, while General Mills USA purchased the French business and with it the factory at Calais, transferring all French production.  The Dinky (Fr) line was later subcontracted to Auto Pilen at Alicante, Spain 1974-82

It's made by Neo. 1:43

It's way better quality than the 77 Electra Neo did.

More pics to come...
