The story is that I think the previous owner was an A Team fan...

I’m also kicking myself as I left the car aerial in the hotel ?

Blimey, that's an interesting custom paint job...  what's the plan for it now?

I was tempted by the box of Rockets, but only really wanted the Cougar & Eldorado although the boats were nice ?

I'll see if I can get him to consider selling any of them separately... the boats and trailers really are as-new. I'd say he's more likely to make money selling them individually at £3 each, than holding out to shift all 11 items for £30.

He's never insisted on job lots before, so dunno if he's trying something new, or worried he'll forget if they're loose on the stall and only charge 50p each or summat...

The steering isn’t working but I’ve found a loose wire (not sure where it’s meant to go though!). I intend to buy a soldering iron and if I can get it working I’ll probably repaint it?

Having die cast disasters this week, put the glazing from the Corgi DeTomaso Mangusta in DoT 3 to get the black paint off - while it was in the jar it looked perfect, clear and all the black had floated off - as soon as it took it out it went opaque.

Then I found a perfect colour match for the wing on the orange Flying Beetle - and it ran out after two squirts (!)

Some good news though, had this Road Masters funny car arrive with working pull cord

And having made a replica of the big wheel arch/slim wheel fastback, I found one

What colour are you going to go for on the Landcrab?

Picked up this pair from same seller on the cheap.  Corgi Bentley Continental and Spot-On Austin 1800

Well, they have done for quite a few weeks now.  I choose to use the excuse about Leicester lockdown

Chose the blue to get near to the colour of the first  Landcrab I ever drove - a schoolmate's one back in the late-eighties.  He was all of 5'2" and went from Yamaha FS1E > Mini Clubman > Austin 1800 in all of 6 months.  He looked tiny in the Austin, but the sort of lad you wouldn't mess with, and we went 5-up everywhere in it.  It was the 'gangster car'.

I think the Dinky Roller's had a minor box refresh, as the clear plastic window looks a bit too clear and uncreased to be the age it ought to be... there's also a lot of paint blemishes on it that look a bit like bubbles, as well as quite a few minor scratches - the Mini Dinky fiasco aside, surely diecast of this era don't suffer zinc pest?

Checked mine out.

I think it is issue with the factory paint.  It doesn't wear or age well.  It also has groups of small bubbles on a bonnet and a door.

Still a nice model though.  I won't be painting it.

As you said, nicely understated. More the kind of thing I expect from the Matchbox division

Prelude casting is lovely, and the upgraded wheels really make it.... and overcome the hurdle that has suddenly stopped me buying Hot Wheels 1/64s cold turkey.

It's the wheels. They're just too big, and too noticeably so. I mean, I know that post-thin wheel Superfast Matchbox are pretty generous, rim-wise, and perhaps it's me being a snob and stupidly holding onto a "I want models, not toys" mindset, when | should really should grow up and accept them as the collectible toys they really are, but I just wish they were smaller.

Posted

I know what you mean, it doesn't bother me on the new cars but when I'm doing wheel swaps I often struggle to find something that suits, they often need more sidewall.

Posted

my landcrab is a spot-on, i would love to add a dinky landcrab taxi to it just to compare.

its a shite picture, as it is sat in the bottom of a cabinet. it is, in common with all the spot-ons i've come across, a really lovely model.

DSCN7553.thumb.JPG.1ff54a841d708826b16e089a210b71de.JPG

the driver, the number plates, the jewelled headlamps.... so many neat touches, no wonder they are expensive now. i'll bet they weren't cheap when new!

in other news, the daimler parts that i ordered some 2 months ago, have actually arrived!!

i have therefore been able to finally finish the SP250. i'm really pleased with how this one has come out!

the wind screen, and the steering  wheel really do finish it of a treat.

Something I spend quite a bit of time on when I'm putting together my 1:24/25 projects.

My JDM Toyota Picnic is now virtually done, and is a case in point. It's an Aoshima kit with Tamiya RX7 wheels and Fujimi tyres which came from a Honda Prelude.

I can spend ages rummaging through boxes and trying out different combinations.

Now, we all like a bit of miniature shite sleuthing, so I thought I'd share this post I found:

50318325272_9729497422_o.jpg

There aren't many comments but one poster identified it as from a Matchbox Kenworth, as such:

HjezZn7Ed_ZgPSfAPhPhVHn1qhrpDxNBuFQQxjEP

Now clearly, that's not the case and neither is this other Matchbox bonneted Kenworth:

45279074345_9c870417d8_b.jpg

I also think the dimensions of 5cm wide are just a little too much for an MB 1-75 casting but then they might not be wholly accurate. Anyway, I just muck about on Twitter every now and then looking at things that interest me but don't have an account. So if anyone can rightfully work this one out, I reckon they'd like to know the real answer!

EDIT! I'm not that great at identifying the differences between different US truck manufacturers, despite them regularly plying the roads of NZ. So it might be a Peterbilt, or something else entirely.

Posted

I've had a google and can't find a match. As you say, 3x5cm is too big for Matchbox size, more like Superkings.

Odd to find just the grilles, I wonder if they're aftermarket parts

Had a really bizarre dream last night that me and a mate had gone to the Isle of Wight by Hovercraft, anyway we were walking through a forest and it was full of dumped boxed matchbox from the seventies, you couldn’t see the floor for them. I was stuffing them in my pockets and rucksack. Then I woke up and now I’m at work. Fuck sake...

I don't know who keeps taking old Matchbox into my favourite charity shop, but as long as they do I'll keep buying them! All 50p other than the transporter which was an extortionate £1.50

I've had this a couple of times. Some places put out a few at a time.

Asking if there were 'any more in the back room' has resulted in some good hauls - the Tomica VW Bus was one of those.

No fantasy transporters here but I have had these out to give them a dust and to rearrange their loads. Just about everything which could be missing on the Holmes is, but it wasn't expensive so it didn't really matter.

They've got a big basket full of cars, sometimes nothing new for months. I may ask the question next time I'm in though as it seems to be a hot spot for good finds

And some new arrivals. I already had a Dinky Jaguar but nowhere near as nice as this, and the Imp is just lovely, albeit needing a tyre. The Corgi A60 is another I'd been idly seeking for a while and it's the nicest I've yet found if you overlook a tyre deficiency and a crack to the screen and rear door windows.
