junkyarddog Posted September 2, 2020 Posted September 2, 2020 Picked up this playworn but otherwisedecent Matchbox Renault 17 at the weekend. flat4alfa Posted September 2, 2020 Posted September 2, 2020 I told the wife there must be £5k -worth of unmade models, diecast, slot cars, ‘classic’ car parts, etc so she wouldn’t skip, but would still see it as a mammoth task and probably let someone greasy grab the lot in bulk just to keep her head straight. She just doesn’t have the patience to make money

Mean cow. i should get my affairs in order and get a will sorted out. but fortunately kerry knows that the toy trains and old toy cars all have some "value" though frankly they would end up getting sold. most likely to a trader cos trying to sell them on piecemeal would just be a total pain in the arse, and take forever! as nice it would be to keep the collection together there isn't anything ultra rare, valuable or interesting included, just an accumulation of common models of common cars and trains, some really nice and some not so nice. but i like them. alot. Datsuncog Posted September 4, 2020 Posted September 4, 2020 Ok then... a Friday morning when it's not absolutely chucking it down - that's a surprise, for starters. Managed to get a decent run through from Carrick, so was through the market gates bang on 8 today. Some traders were still putting the finishing touches to their stalls, so I had reasonable confidence that I'd not be left to gaze in horror from a few paces away as bargains galore were snatched up. Although, for all my zeal, initial impressions were middling, to say the least... Leaving aside all the Days Gone and MoYs at the front, we're mostly back to those bashed Atlas police and Stobart models with no acrylic boxes from two or three weeks back - though there was some new tinplate stuff, mind. Mazda RX7 was nice, it's just that I can't get massively excited about racing cars compared to the standard road versions. Ex-Vanguards castings licenced by Atlas are all a bit knackered with lights and mirrors absent, doubtless because they've been cleared off a shelf in some old giffer's dining room cabinet and heeled into a bin bag, en route to the tat stall. Atlas touring car partworks also in evidence, at £5 each. Tinplate stuff is quite interesting, but just not quite my bag. This police car resembled a Capri notchback saloon, going by the front end treatment, the twin 'air intakes' in front of the rear wheels, and hockeystick curve over the rear arch arch. Should have photographed it while I had it out of the box, it was actually quite nice. £15, though. Ferrari-esque GT cars possibly late 60s/early 70s; kinda incredible they've survived in their packaging for 50 years or so. Enquiries revealed that the boxed Bbuarago Mk2 Escort had sold last Friday. Booooooo. But, there were some new arrivals up top, too. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the (mostly) bashed-up Corgis from last week are still there, at a tenner each. Rockets are still there, too, at £30 for the box. Dunno why he doesn't just pop them out at £3 each. Super GT triple pack are Universal era but Made in England - some of the last of the line, then. More early Lesney were also to be seen, plus a few other oddities (which I couldn't resist, but more of them later): This big Corgi AA set did tempt me, but £25 with a tatty box seemed quite strong. There was also a 50p tat selection! Turned out of their box for better rummaging, these are the diecast from a fortnight ago - mainly 1960s and 70s Lesney in not-great shape, though some diamonds in the rough too. Most of these are a bit banjaxed, though the Dodge breakdown truck is ok under the extra paint. Big Banger is missing its engine, Mini suffering a few woes but casting still fine. Remaining Skybusters also a bit ill-looking. Vanpire in sub-par state was still about: BMW CSL had decent paint, but a sadly squished roof. Door donor? Not sure if there's much in here that's above average, but I take an odd comfort in these just being here. So, with a few small purchases made, I wandered on round the other stalls... One of the general tat stalls had these, but since the proprietor is given to somewhat optimistic pricing, I didn't stop to enquire. But the Charity Stall was laden; chiefly, it seems, with those knackered EFE and OOC buses that Market Blokey has been trying to flog for the last few weeks. At £4 each, the pricing is perhaps heading in the right direction, but still seems a wee bit expensive. But, as I stood there snapping away, Charity Fella started handing over more diecast, asking if I'd set them out on the stall for him... Mmm, more like it. Think this is a 1/24 Bburago, in an odd homebrew box: Oh yessss... OOOOF. Well, it didn't take long before I was handing over more money... Seemingly everything's £4 or so. Yes, the Bburago racing Escort was picked up, and is available. Not particularly minty, but at £4 it's not too bad, I reckon. Let me know if you fancy it! He also had an 8-track player in amongst the general tat, too. So, there we have it... apologies for the length of time this has taken to post up, but a combination of a dying phone, a shonky Mozilla update that now inserts random capital letters, plus the vagaries of the forum's editor display means I've been tapping away now for a solid hour and a half here, with mounting frustration as picture uploads fail and the text cursor repeatedly pings back up to the top of the post... so I'll go and try to calm my tits by taking a final tour just in case anything of note has popped up... Yup, two Chevrolets (with working steering) ... plus a Kenworth wrecker which is similar to one I owned, but had completely forgotten about. But I'll not tempt you further down the slippery slope! There were also these newly arrived boxed Dinkys on the Tat Stall - nice stuff, pretty good but not pristine - and not massively cheap at £30 each. Unless anyone's feeling flush?
