Its a corgitronics hcb angus firestreak - looks based on a cheverolet of some description. For £6.50 I was'nt bothered if it did'nt pump.

Bargain!

I have one in working order, I think missing the ladder though. The side steps refuse to stay up for long

It’s a Dodge

Is it just the lights and siren that should work?

Yes. It’s not a very nice siren though and you’ll not want it on long...!

(Not that it was supposed to be, in the real life example!)

New HW 10 pack out, got it mainly for the hot rod Bug. There were 3 with the Beetle in and this one seemed to have the best choice of the other cars in with it.

Now that’s a surprise, I’d always though the Bertones were the same size.  I have the Corgi one and repainted it white to match the original car

That big white Cougar looks awful and lets your collection down. I think you should get rid of it and make some room for the better detailed diecasts you are known for.  And that’s why I think you should sell it to ME as soon as you can bear it ?

Picked up this Matchbox Mk1 Mondeo recently.

20200806_154719.thumb.jpg.a388bbceac1dcd75b13851856f0608bd.jpg

It's a surprising good casting, let down terribly by thick paint and oversize wheels.

20200809_163302.thumb.jpg.a6d5f42015f3a69f2b57aea2d2a4bb87.jpg

A quick repaint and clumsy detail later we have this.

Not happy with the paint,I stripped it using caustic soda, and I'm finding the new paint doesn't go on well afterwards,a couple of bubbles have appeared.

Still it looks better that it did.

Surprised me they only did that casting in a few colours. Quite a scarce one as well that. Meanwhile I’m busy converting a Matchbox MB 560SEC to a cabriolet.

A bit of research shows it is meant to have flashing lights and a siren - no mention of pumping. I will try a battery tomorrow.

Expand

Found out mine.  Put a battery in and it seems something's gone in the electronics, as the siren is at twice the normal speed and sounds even dafter!   It's missing the searchlight too, unlike your complete one.  Pretty sure I paid more than £6.50 a year ago for it, when I succumbed to a 'collect-the-CorgiTronics-range' manic episode.

Your mistaken seller was more likely getting confused with the Corgi Pathfinder - that pumped water and also had a siren.  Found out one too although the one I have here is a later one with the electronics removed (found that out after blind purchase...)

In the mid 70’s Matchbox were due to bring out a similar model to the Corgi pathfinder, but the cost of tooling was prohibitive.

Had a trip to Tesco,

IMG_20200808_161520.thumb.jpg.08927b5ebe069ebe24c0214be7fbd3c1.jpg

I knew I'd buckle and get one of these, Tesco reducing the 9 packs to £5.50 helped decide. I was gutted when I missed out on the S123 Merc, our local Tesco didn't have any of the single issues at the time, so I'm glad I finally have one, without having to pay comedy eBay prices. I also like the Mazda, the Subaru and the Jag exclusive, so worth the purchase I think. 201_ jnr has kind of claimed the others...

We had to nip into town yesterday, so had a quick trip to The Entertainer. Nothing really new Hot Wheels-wise, although the nice helpful lady in there said they have a couple of new cases to put out soon, so will have to return. The little 'uns got a few weird fantasy ones on the 3 for 2 offer, and I grabbed a few JDMs I've so far missed out on.

IMG_20200808_161647.thumb.jpg.e7a0782f7e9f6acdd3062f751c074b0e.jpg

Was glad to get this one, to go with the MOMO 510 saloon I've already got.

The li'l Honda looks cute in red, in what must be it's 7634th re-colour...

IMG_20200808_161720.thumb.jpg.b4628bd9f05801e56e833bf9734aa082.jpg

Bit of a makeweight for the 3 for 2, this one, but it's not a bad job, and my first S2000.

Something else came in the post as well. Hang on to your hats, kids...

I always thought the corgitronics were a bit naff - a lame attempt to cash in on the electronic toys boom of the very early 80's.

Funny they could manage to tool for all the fantasy trucks though, such as this

20200721_173222585_iOS.thumb.jpg.eb7dc768c692377c3342db49737ebefc.jpg

No interest in these when current, but these days as a senile old fool falling into pangs of nostalgia, I feel myself drawn to SuperKings K-12 HERCULES MOBILE CRANE from 1974.  I mean, just look at it

20200721_173237729_iOS.thumb.jpg.0d2ffc357b65b4f424b34d67ccdd10ee.jpg

The swing mechanism turns 360 degrees; the boom is also diecast and detailed; the telescopic boom extends by the same again, although is plastic, as is the hook

20200721_173357458_iOS.thumb.jpg.f8c08cbed78eee91f67931dd4e5820f1.jpg

There are four extendible outriggers too.  Piggy was less than impressed though

20200721_173242399_iOS.thumb.jpg.46edf48443692ec95d9f46ab795e859b.jpg

Whoever at Lesney thought to glaze over a massive detailed V8 (with individual heads!) created a master piece that in real life surely would create a right din for the cab occupants, already suffering from the heat in their over-glazed greenhouse

I wonder how much Laing paid Matchbox to run it in their livery to make it at least seem authentic?

Front-wheel-drive Friction motor for the win

Matchbox saviour Jack Odell was keen on authentic engines - I wonder if the motor is accurate - the Scania V8 had individual heads.

If it had been accurate could have matchbox dragged the casting well into the millennium instead? Siku made their Faun castings earn there keep.

More incoming diecast shite,

Told you this one would be exciting!

To be fair though, I've been looking for one of these Schuco Vectras for a while, partly for nostalgic reasons (as well as being a Vauxhall pervert)

Back in the day, in my murky taxi driving past, I did a fair few miles behind the wheel of Vectras. A firm I drove for at the time ordered the first Vectra to hit the road in Middlesbrough, which caused a good bit of envy among the other operators! The boss liked his Vauxhalls and after ordering 2 of the last Cavalier 1.7D Envoys off the line, his mate at the dealership offered him a good deal on a new Vectra. N73 ADC was a resale white Envoy TD hatch which I got the odd shot of, despite my regular steed being N392 XHN, one of the doom red Cavaliers. 2 more Vectras followed, 1.7 TD LS hatches in Rio Verde, P750 & P751 EEF. I soon wangled my way into P751.

A couple of years later I got my hackney saloon driver licence and drove a nice Rover 600sdi for a while. My brother and me then decided to rent a hackney between us and work for ourselves. He knew a few guys in the trade renting out cars, and we soon ended up with P641 PWU, a slightly dog eared but mechanically spot-on Vectra hatch. Another flipping Envoy spec! A good weekend cleaning and polishing, a bit of touch up paint, a good interior valet and a set of spare Vectra mats and wheel trims soon had it worthy! A great car, we ran it for about 18 months, working day and night. It never put a foot wrong and gave great MPG. It was just about up for replacement under the 6 year rule and we were set to get a year old Mondeo 2.0 Zetec with new LPG system, but we packed in the taxi trade altogether as it was getting harder and harder in our town to scratch a decent living out of it. Good memories though. (How many people can say that in connection with the Vauxhall Vectra?...)

So, to this beauty,

IMG_20200808_162025.thumb.jpg.220d3aa1ea18d6cd7a3371c2c3f5e31e.jpg

Whatever your feelings on the real thing, it can't be denied that Schuco made a damn good job of the Vectra. For a model made the best part of 25-ish years ago, the shape is bob-on and the lines are nice and crisp. It sits nice and the early SRi/GLS style alloys are well rendered.

The hatchback is my favourite shape too. Sadly they did a version in Rio Verde, but it was the saloon, so this is the only colour the hatch comes in.

IMG_20200808_162654.thumb.jpg.38f3668f05ae6cc6ec4ac467b8b373ff.jpg

Sadly no opening doors, like the previous Gama made dealer models, or open driver's window, but the interior detail can just about be seen, and it's pretty good for the era. The period Vauxhall ugly-airbag steering wheel being particularly well done.

IMG_20200808_162813.thumb.jpg.7f9a37a31eb14511af679ba9996ba3de.jpg

All in all, I'm chuffed with it. People on eBay tend to want strong money for Shucos of this era. This one appeared with a BIN of £9 which I thought was quite decent for mint with box, a couple of days later it went down to £7 which got my trigger finger twitching, next day it was a fiver. Sold!

Another Vauxhall in miniature off the want list!
