Husky RO80 joins my Corgi versions - still need the large one

20200806_172135.thumb.jpg.ea182691e7715922795d2e9345e6a726.jpg

Oh, nice find. These late-era Huskys are really starting to grow on me - the two-piece wheels look so much better than the all-black plastic ones fitted to earlier models, and I think we can all agree that Whizzwheels and Rockets were principally built to go fast and delight six-year-olds, rather than faithfully represent real-life cars...

On the hunt for some of these myself, now...

Don't think I've ever seen one of those Bentleys before, I assumed it was the Mercedes 300 at first glance. Very nice!

It's an unusual choice of model - and the whole Cars of the 50s range was a bit odd, really.

I may try to track down a few more - there were only six different basic castings in the range, in a variety of colours and hood up/hood down configurations, plus some variations like the Rolls Royce Silver Dawn and the Bentley R Series, which were the same thing except for the grille.

I'm currently making a few notes on how the Cars of the 50s range came about, and then turned into Corgi Classics... and also where the wretched Corgi Cameos and the el cheapo Motoring Memories series fit into the story (suddenly, it all makes sense).

It actually is quite the tale, so hopefully I'll be able to do it justice.

I'll leave you with this little research nugget for now: the range came into existence because Mettoy's attempt to buy Solido fell through...

You've got some lovely stuff in there, maybe you should put up some individual pics, especially of that red Mercury Cougar!

I asssume that's a long-term collection  you've put together?

Well that escalated quickly. You complete bastards. All of these were purchased within the last two weeks. I don't need them. I don't have room for them. Mrs Dick hasn't visited the garage recently either... ? It's all this bloody thread's fault!

Bugger!

Lucky Toys Cougar looks just like the Matchbox ones

20200806_171535.thumb.jpg.bcbb0bb47d949805c3ebfed91f2034f3.jpg

This is I'm sure also modeled on a Superfast - anyone care to name the model?

20200806_171659.thumb.jpg.e456dbc0239bc61728c2a61e625c0dc1.jpg

Lastly a Universal 240Z with some sort of non functioning motor

20200806_171626.thumb.jpg.6cb7f5ca7c95519d2cf91dc1ce9aca35.jpg

Last but far from least, having accidentally sold my Marx Eldorado 4 pennies to another member, I had to replace it at far greater cost

Just because the Caddy sold, it doesn’t mean you wouldn’t it back again!  You just succumbed to the Slippery slope before it was time....?

love the Lucky Toys - I completely missed those.  So now I’ve got the slippery slope yearning for them now!

what are the dimensions of them all?

will you want to sell each of them on, in turn?

I'm not to fussed about the Fairlady/240Z and the Grusome Twosome copy but I'll be keeping the Cougar. Might dig out the Speedkings, Superfast and Marx versions for size comparison.

The Mercury is about 163mm X 63mm

Well, another day of rain but I think we all know what's coming next...

Yup, Tat Friday returns.

20200807_103542.thumb.jpg.f876ff157d486726358c48e804963081.jpg

I rocked up a little before 10, to find no queue - seems that the market's now opening at 8am, which is a blessed relief since I'm running out of excuses to be not at my (home working) desk during core hours. There's only so many hamsters that can plausibly need veterinary attention at 10 o'clock on a Friday before management starts to get suspicious...

So Tat Stall was present, with some old favourites but quite a few new additions, too:

20200807_103211.thumb.jpg.febe9eadd59ffacf9bc28f698be219bf.jpg

Plenty of filthy scratched 00 scale buses - which have now gone up to £5 again, perplexingly - plus quite a bit of other stuff.

20200807_095805(0).thumb.jpg.c35df49521566db0226a359e0c4d4027.jpg

Corgi Classics, Lledo Vanguards and a smattering of Matchbox MoYs and Days Gone made up the bulk of the new stuff - though £5 a pop is a bit outrageous, given they're all scratched and/or broken to a greater or lesser extent. He's been popping out mint boxed DGs MoYs for £2 and Corgi Classics for a fiver before: this looks like tat box grade at best. For a pound, mebbe I would...

20200807_095809.thumb.jpg.a412e8160bbe7ffa1eb9b1b161cdb0f1.jpg

This looks better, though - large stuff still £5, but small and shabby Lesneys etc at £2 each. Cambuster a bit playworn for a fiver, I thought. Think that's a 1930s/40s Dinky tanker just beside the Mack R-series, albeit a bad repaint.

Cougar dragster missing its block - fiver seems kinda steep, even if the overall condition isn't too heinous.

20200807_103512.thumb.jpg.b302f2c4623a86861a794efd822f55f0.jpg

And there were exclusive* VIP-only boxes round the back of the stall too...

20200807_103248.thumb.jpg.743770b32828fb28e993b88add5631d0.jpg

The Corgi Opel Rekord was the first to hit me right between the eyes...

...but unfortunately someone had already hit it, with something quite hard.

20200807_103303.thumb.jpg.124abe740e50a89e9e059082229e473e.jpg

A dented roof and a missing tail light plus other casting damage resulted in a hard no from me, sadly.

20200807_103319.thumb.jpg.f595adc722d65f97026b0c3ea5ae99b8.jpg

Pity, as the Politzei version is quite uncommon.

Superkings Audi was in decent fettle, though somehow these era of Matchbox don't yank my nostalgia chain as hard as the Corgi stuff does.

20200807_103404.thumb.jpg.04a9668fa6b94b5ee36ac65f5f92bd48.jpg

More of the same stuff up top as last week: repaints, mostly. That black Beetle is a fucked Matchbox Dinky from the early 90s; he seems to be under the misapprehension that it's older. 50p grade, at best.

20200807_103459.thumb.jpg.375fa16d8a61db95960c45480587bb33.jpg

Tanker was a plastic Lego item; sadly no tractor unit (or tyres) present.

20200807_103444.thumb.jpg.9dfbe153d5f87da491d83e45207fd4f5.jpg

More scabacious buses in poor shape were also kicking around, but I wouldn't be interested unless and until they drop a bit* more.

20200807_103430.thumb.jpg.15282bdcb781b97ac1831c348b109278.jpg

I quickly ran round to the Charity Stall in case there were any decent finds, but there was nothing more to interest me - I've cleared them out! Just recent fantasy Hot Wheels and no-name rubbish.

20200807_103525.thumb.jpg.0e23cb87b0e19efbf608c6f86de24ee3.jpg

So! If there's anything you can't live without, hit me up quick quick quick as I'll only be able to stay for the time taken to guzzle a sausage soda and coffee before I gotta run...

...though, inevitably, I didn't leave the stall empty-handed...

More to come!

What's the yellow thing behind the Rekord?

Also, littlun would like the Quattro...

Oh that's interesting - I had one the same, but without the raised roof section. Other than the stickers, it was just a normal Espace.

Someone on here has it now - possibly a swap could be arranged?

Cambuster is handy for the pipes and broken block. But perhaps not for a fiver.  Dinamite Cougar with the robbed engine would like but not for a fiver.  A £6 deal on the two, maybe

is that Yellow Prelude parked behind the Opel Polizei?

Yes, yellow Prelude - though already on its way to TheDoctor!

Cambuster's broken glazing also pushes it into doubtful territory... he seems to be having a 'pricey week' today, what with the wrecked Days Gone for a fiver, so I'll try him next week to see if he'll do them both for £6 as you suggest...

Days Gone values climbing?  Well they have been in the doldrums for a while.  By next month they will have doubled?  You heard it here first.  Hold on to your seats.

I’d go out there now and cash your pension in and corner the market in Days Gone By. Imagine the income from flogging those Model T Fords at Car Boot Sales!
