Shite in Miniature II

The same story with these two, although I had both of these as a boy and god knows where they've ended up. I actually saw an H plate 230 this colour in Blackpool last weekend and it made me think of this.

It's not a Wednesday boot sale unless there's some 1:36 Corgi, is it? I think it's the law or something. Speaking of the law, Kojak got his car resprayed it seems. Bit annoying about the missing bit on the roof but then it was three quid..

The Mini is one I haven't seen before, although a maths teacher at my senior school had a J reg Mini Neon from new and it was a darker grey than this. It was also festering nicely by its sixth birthday but I digress. The box is a bit tatty on closer inspection, perhaps a fiver was rash.

I acquired that Sterling, in extremely playworn condition as a playground find at primary school. I ended up "crushing" it in my "scrapyard" (big Record vice in the garage). Long before Rover 800s held any significance to me.

It's actually a fabulous little model, and I've long held an ambition to convert one into a Fastback.

This is the 'standard' Police Regal decoration.  Notice just the one roof light bar.  So that means they did three different castings - that is if they weren't drilled or stamped through

Kojak bought off 'bay, Police one came from Eddy

Talking of which, where have I put the one I was working on...   that came from Eddy too and I dipped ready to cut about.  Did the wheelbase measurements too

Mini Neon, you say?  Boxed, you say?

Either can be bought for a fiver plus post. ;)

I remember getting the Mini (not in that colour) and the MB Superkings Peterbilt recovery truck at the same time and feeling like my Premium Bond numbers had come up.

Because they had.

Think it was £50 I won, and as a young boy, that was a fortune. I think I was allowed to spend half, and the other half got put in a Post Office account. God I feel old.

Can't for the life of me remember what colour the mini was

Recently, I may have also achieved a similar achievement ?

Crikey! ?

I appear to have a bought a Mini-Dinky without much evidence of serious self-destruction ?

Not only that, it's nicely done considering the scale.  The Chevrolet Chevy II is a model not commonly seen, aside from an over-the-top custom by Hot Wheels

20200721_110427144_iOS.thumb.jpg.dd2447c24a18be6c53b7bf5dafb3552c.jpg

Proportions look great, detail is tidy, paint is good, glazing is very good.  One casting flaw on an A-pillar but not found much else.  I was expecting something nasty, but to be fair it's a quality item - it also appears to have turned, not cast, wheels and has separate tyres.

20200721_105120270_iOS.thumb.jpg.734575f5a730109e2185c64acefcaad9.jpg

Ok, ok, the trunk lid on this is also missing, but it looked in the photos to have been a flat piece that should be straightforward to reproduce?  Might even have something already in spares tins that could be adapted to fit, I thought.   The paint wear isn't that bad considering it's 52 years old

20200721_105142519_iOS.thumb.jpg.516b30e478acab09d367441b0e5b9788.jpg

So, I made a £3 BIN offer on it, just to give the brand a try.  Probably the best idea I had that day as I wasted plenty more than that in the pub later on.

Any more love for Mini-Dinky ?

I might seek out a few more of the series.  Perhaps they're not that expensive, not when I consider how much I've given the Royal Mail over the past year....    I've spotted two on the 'bay so please don't bid-war me on them, not for now ?

I remember buying some Mini Dinky cars from a petrol station in the early seventies, I should still have them in my box of childhood diecasts. IIRC I had the Corvette Stingray and Mustang while my brother had the Chevy II and Corsair. I'll have a rummage in the box and see if I can find them.

Seeing @flat4alfa Kidco Lock Up reminds me I have one somewhere - I shall dig it out -  I do have these Universal (Kidco parent I believe) Dinky’s though.

The Corvettes both have detailed engines and opening hoods:

The day vans don’t do much but the blue one appears to be a delicately cast model (which the young version of me broke and repaired with mystery yellow tac!)

So far I've managed to acquire;

Because it can flap its doors like the one I owned.  Twice.

It was clean, so clean.   Such a hoot to drive too.

I did feel like a rent boy in it, though.

I was going to save this until the morning but hey ho, insomnia blah blah.. So whilst we wait for the pill to take effect.. Everything else I got today (well, yesterday now I suppose) was picked up because I liked it but with no problem passing it on if someone here liked it too. This however is a keeper. I'm not usually too crazy about this scale but it's one I never had as a child and something I've been hoping to find for a good couple of years now. It's not my preferred colour but I don't care, I'm genuinely delighted to finally have a decent example. Didn't even try to haggle, it was well worth its four pound price tag all day long.

The bonnet says: DPS, the initials for Dorozhno-patrulnaya sluzhba [Road Patrol Service]

The doors say: Militsiya, the Soviet/Russian Police force from 1950s until renamed back to Politsiya in 2011

It's missing its light bar.  But that's ok, it was probably sold to fund the force during testing times in Russia.

Plus it now has some Phat tyres on the back.

It's lucky to survive - it was going to get its wheels stolen for something else

I remember getting that Mini in a '3 pack' from Woolworths when I was a kid. I think there was 'Neon', 'Hot' and can't remember the other ?

Just found them online. It was 'Red Hot', 'Ritz' and 'Jet Black'.

Ambulance been dibsed yet?  If not I'll have that too please.

I've slept on it and reckon I should let someone else have that.  Got greedy!  Not really into ambulances anyhow.   Perhaps it will be a gr9 project for @TheDoctor to resurrect as the Dinky Cadillac is with him and his soldering iron already?

Likewise the Solido 2CV.   Enticed by the £1 cost, I was.

I've got that set with those 3 in it. It was produced exclusively for Woolworths. There was also another set. I have about 20 plus of these 1/36 Minis and among the loose ones I think I have the second set as well.

A few arrivals;

Budgie Beetle wasn't one I've found before. As it's metal right down to the tyres, I'm tempted to dunk the whole thing in paint stripper rather than taking it apart.

Talking of headlights, my replacements have arrived so I'll see how well they fit my various blind cars later

Amazingly, I've managed the straighten the pillars and roof on the Monkeemobile, so there might be hope for this yet
