Those Cortinas are superb! Is that a Corgi Juniors MK3 on the end of the wrecker?

Posted

No it's a playart (made in Hong Kong) bit battered have several good ones.

Only MK3 (in period the polistil is poor) of that scale I've come across , always thought it strange that corgi didn't do a junior version & no UK manufacturers did a Mk5 in either of the common sizes of what was the UK's market leader.

Surely it would have sold as well as the real ones?

I made most of these in the late 90's -00's

I'm surprised there wasn't a Matchbox MK3 2 door GT or similar in superfast form. Would have looked good in period Purple velvet or Daytona yellow?

As it was Tat Friday, I did the occasional ritual of cleaning the diecast tat cabinet and it's contents, now that it's back in its regular spot in the front room after decorating.

Did a bit of swapping around, some seeing shelf time for the first time, some going back up to the loft'o'delights.

Pure class to start with on the top...

IMG_20200403_225909.thumb.jpg.12dd818d43eba9edb709f2d00a66aa9b.jpg

Onto the Top shelf material (phwoooaaarrr!), The old skool Ford selection,

Next down,  we have (not shit) Voxhalls mingling with BL/Rover excellence. (You may notice that when I had a real Allegro, I bought quite a few in miniature. In the loft, I've also got the early releases in Harvest Gold, Blaze Orange, Brazil Brown, the special Centenary edition in Damask Red and the police version.)

Next, the Vanguards Boy Racer collection, with a lowered Escort Mexico, Sunbeam Ti and Avenger Tiger sneaking in,

IMG_20200403_225557.thumb.jpg.5f57860ed660bae075787a0c923986fd.jpg

And the Hidden Treasures barnfind/projects collection,

IMG_20200403_225642.thumb.jpg.2f38a8cda5464c28864cb88cefb74ad9.jpg

IMG_20200403_225719.thumb.jpg.5187f89f6bc58b017414faf1e03a84fa.jpg

In the corner is one that didn't start off as a Hidden Treasure version. It was a normal MK1 Escort release in a nice shade of Evergreen. However it sustained a fair bit of damage in the great cabinet shelf collapse of a few years ago. I also had a Mk1 Mexico with collapsed suspension (the tabs that hold the suspension rods had broken), so swapped the baseplates over to repair the Mexico. So I had a bit of fun with the Evergreen, to make it look like the sort of bodged up old snotter that was so common on the roads in the '80s.

To sort the suspension, I put some plastic chocks between the interior unit and axles to firm the suspension up. Both bumpers were snapped off, so front and rear valances were tidemarked.

IMG_20200401_213122.thumb.jpg.419eb2cf924881f92ad889e142de286a.jpg

Sills have been tidemarked as well, with sill/ lower rear quarter repairs, and a few giffer scrapes on the side and the rear arch. Both front wings are now brown as if replacements have been fitted.

IMG_20200404_214003.thumb.jpg.f1dbff158461da4f32d4c9683807cb76.jpg

On the other side, we have a giffer gouge on the side and a replacement rear arch panel

IMG_20200404_214151.thumb.jpg.9a8bb0b179c374d3d1738b567241e132.jpg

Not a brilliant job, but a bit of fun to make use out of the remains of a model that would have been scrap otherwise.

Anyway here's some pics of the other modded mk4's

So estate, 2 door cabrio, limo and wrecker truck? Good work! Trying to do body mods on 1:64 die cast is seriously skilful stuff. How did you do the estate taillights?

I'd say the reason you're not 100% happy is the split rear bumper..?

That shabby MK1 is tremendous. Just as I remember them looking in the early 1980s. Great job!

Here's one of those D'Agostini (or whatever) 1/43 taxis I bought recently:

Mitsubishi i-MiEV. What can I say? It was 50p, should hopefully clinch it.  Business man's Tata Nano.

Nice work, the paint colour suits it well.

I have a tidy one of those in my For Sale box.

Thanks. I think it's a Ford colour, will check.

Edit:

That got me digging out my Majorette Acadiane ?  Had it from a boy, bought on first holiday ‘abroad’. It’s one I avoid as it chips just by looking at it

Pictured here with a Corgi 2CV and a spare Acadiane for company

The ‘spare’ with the missing back door is available for swaps/sale

Wow, perfect! Didn't think anyone would actually have one.

I must have earned good die-cast karma sending Egg those wheels...

The model supplies replacement ladder just 'sits' on top of this, doesn't clip on. Does anyone know how the original ladders were secured? Could glue it on...

IMG_20200403_141054.thumb.jpg.973be9e94b1fe0ace886a724eb52039c.jpg

looking at mine, well i dunno how the ladder is fitted, it looks like the back of the ladder is clipped in somehow, but there are no visible means of attachment at the front.

and it is very, very firmly fixed onto the roof and at both ends, so can only assume its glued.

which is not at all something i would expect to see on a matchbox vehicle.

It's the upper tailgate window area needed to be smaller, the lights were just filled/sanded then repainted.

I try to use correct paint for the model I'm doing.

Only real prob irrespective of scale is no way to make decals ( no printer/pc skills).

I think you've done a cracking job.

I keep thinking about printing decals, paper is easy enough to find but I have no idea about designing them etc. Do we have anyone with the skillz who could?

Dinky also had an early 1970s penchant for 'Hi Viz' pink.

Even the old 1960s Mini Travellers got a reprieve and were painted this pink or an equally vivid green.
