This morning's car boot finds. The Guisval Mini looks like it should have something on the roof, but then it wouldn't fit in the box ?

Charity shop near to the car boot had this 1/18 Citroen BX in the window. They're asking £50,& it has a mirror missing, but going by eBay,that's not a bad price.

I was just going to look for mine to post a picture ?

I'm thinking that's just evidence that time travel exists and that I'm a 1980s toy car influencer. Anyone got any requests for castings they wish had been made?!

All joking aside, thanks for the speedy responses but in fairness, I think the Majorette R5 Turbo is a better effort.

Finally getting the loft ready for my railway and unpacked the last of the boxes including the one full of cars. Some of these say 1:87 scale (HO gauge, same as my German railway stuff) and some say 1:72 which would be bigger than British OO gauge but they all look the same to me.

Anyway here's some pics.

There's a lot of Minis.

These were in Wilkinson for 99p each. Two of them are duplicates because I forgot which ones I'd already bought.

There will have to be a Mini rally going on somewhere on my layout.

Two Capris. A 1300 and an RS3100. They have different bonnets and lights.

IMG_20191027_160106.thumb.jpg.08dc49d532042a0e4b07fa8fac0f9295.jpg

Camper, panel van and pick up.

Two Porsches and two Mercs.

And a DB5

IMG_20191027_160355.thumb.jpg.e561cddd0e30db4d7319fe03b2641e56.jpg

And three Isettas, unfortunately all with the same reg. IMG_20191027_160421.thumb.jpg.9949297c7a8e402655bde8b195d8acd9.jpg

I'm also going to need a campsite as I got these four with caravans.

IMG_20191027_160653.thumb.jpg.c34cddbe69bf3f86ac2da7421adf2ee0.jpg

The Mini's caravan is ridiculously twee.

IMG_20191027_160710.thumb.jpg.38215e0d709f9cc65b943ae325d08d77.jpg

The collection so far has been based on what I could get cheap. Nothing here was more than about £2, even the ones with caravans. I really need some more run of the mill 80s German stuff as that's what most of the trains are. You can get it all but at about four times the price.

I had to have this Transporter panel van for obvious reasons. IMG_20191027_160832.thumb.jpg.68367fa562db4858fc709e7599a142da.jpg

It's a bit like having a Sherpa over here and painting it blue with yellow ends.

The Cararama Capris really are very nice; they seemed to have six in the series, three low-spec (in silver, gold and metallic blue) and three high-spec RS versions (red, yellow and green). I managed to find them in Poundland back in 2005; I think I kept one low spec and one high spec, and passed the rest on. But they're beautifully proportioned, wee things, especially given the bargain price of them.

I also had a bit of a rummage in Tesco over the weekend - no W123 estate (other than in the multipack), but plenty of VW Trekkers, should anyone fancy adding one to their current diecast tat box for the £1.10 shelf price?

I came away with the Ranchero and the Caprice.

I'm also wondering if I should have picked up the Thunderbird too, as it may be the same casting they were using in the early 80s... would like to compare it with my hopelessly battered childhood original.

I have not bought any diecasts since 2017 and no new ones since decades ago but the new Matchbox range is tempting me because I prefer realism i.e recognisable vehicles with normal sized wheels. I particularly like their versions of American full size sedans.  Ages ago, Toys R Us had a similar range of attractive yanks. I'll have to dig out the ones I bought - I don't think they were Matchbox.

Some of my favourites which I thought I’d share. I also have quite a lot of boxed blue matchbox models from the early 90s, and 1:18ths which I subsequently squandered my pocket money on, but I’ll take photos of them another day.

The dustbin lorry is massive and was made by the Dennis factory as a retirement present for my great uncle in the mid 70s. It’s got a build sheet from their production line too. So far no one who has seen it has liked it; I hope this will be the place that the poor thing gets the appreciation it deserves!

I like your Siku 205 cabrio - I'm after the Boss Hogg Caddy and Majorette Fiat 127 too.

Anyone out there want to swap some a Majorette for one of these?

I'm most interested in either,

Fiat 127,

Chrysler 180,

Plymouth fury police car.

Need not be perfect, playworn and in reasonable condition is fine.

Or any other majorette accessories like trailers, caravans ECT.

Matchbox Dodge dragster no70 in fair condition also considered.

Try me :D

I've just realised that I still have a VGC Majorette 127 in red.

I'll get a pic of it tonight.  I prefer my Majorettes to be of French cars so if you want it, you can have it as long as you send one of the above to Datsuncog. Dodging the Death Stares of the proprietors of Giffer Alley every Friday must be recognised.

Let me know!

If you want, then yes.

So long as Tim is agreeable to this?

I live in the R.O.I,so postage may be a little bit more for you?

Still it's quite small,so won't be too expensive I guess.

You don't want a Merc wagon then split pin?

@Datsuncog

I'll just post it in a well padded jiffy bag.

I managed to find a Merc in Tescos about a month ago, it had fallen down the back of the trug that the others were thrown into on the shelf.

Cor, cheers chaps... that's most generous!

I'm certainly agreeable, if that works for everyone else... thank you both so much!

As I'm an 'opener' when it comes to Matchbox, it might work out easier on postage just to take the Merc out of its packaging and send it loose in an envelope - may go as a large envelope/packet that way?

Sure if @junkyarddog's happy enough with the 127 as a swap, I'll PM my address over.

Much appreciated, for sure!

Giffer Death Stares do take their toll, it's true...

Just been to Tescos and they've got 4 multipacks each containing a W123, I decided I wasn't that bothered after all and bought a VW Thing/ 181/Trekker/ Whatever. fFor £7 the 9 car pack is good value I suppose and it does have the Golf Country , Europa and Ranchero in it- could give the other stuff to my 4 year old nephew too, bollocks ! I'm going back - anybody else want a pack for £7 plus postage ?image.thumb.jpeg.250b4c17d308e1a71aa36d3df8065015.jpeg

Righto I will retrieve it tonight and post up some pictures of it to ensure JYD is happy with it.

Mercedes without packaging does go as a large letter, mine was posted to me on that basis...

Oh, and I went back to Tesco for the 1957 Ford Thunderbird last night... while 50s Americana isn't so much my thing these days, I do have a certain nostalgic pull for this casting...

20191029_152920.thumb.jpg.650beed32378e3d22f4030826ed4795e.jpg

20191029_152928.thumb.jpg.cd4e2e2430008f5b35aff02047fec548.jpg

It's very similar to my owned-from-new 1985 example, but not identical.

20191029_152939.thumb.jpg.e9c3de3c1aa7a08a270efb8f82f5b581.jpg

The leading edge of the doors seem less round on the new version, while the length of the scuttle between the windscreen and bonnet also seems shorter.

20191029_152948.thumb.jpg.f42a9381677cc71ae54abce5979c8b1f.jpg

The cast-in badge has been lost on the newer version, while the front panel (especially the area above the grille) is much flatter than the original.

20191029_153110.thumb.jpg.34abdff551a7e9e5874e767dead43df1.jpg

20191029_152957.thumb.jpg.5a2a2cf8d9c7bae5e2912129f66b110c.jpg

Overall length and proportions are quite similar, though.

20191029_153012.thumb.jpg.29ef129dc7cad7d2ba187daff79fb8c5.jpg

Interior is odd - not only does the current release have a cutaway floor, but if you look closely into the driver's footwell it also has three pedals built into the floor, plus a manual gearstick. Now, I believe the first generation Thunderbirds did come with the option of either automatic or manual with overdrive transmission, but I'm surprised it's been modelled with such accuracy - given how much of an afterthought the steering wheel looks, anyway...

20191029_153041.jpg.2665e41e9eeacb5cd7c89383c7eaf1d6.jpg

Plastic base loses out a little on the original metal version, with greater accommodation for the wide wheels now used. But the overall 'heritage' is still there.

Worth going in for? Yeah... I reckon so.

There's also a mildly amusing anecdote about my old Thunderbird here, which I'll relate at some point!

That's lovely!

I'll send on the Merc to Tim, think I still have his address somewhere.

Edit:

Found Tim's address, Merc in an envelope (unopened) will post it off in the morning.

Had this Zylmex X1/9 arrive today - here it is with the Corgi I reckon they cribbed it from

Also found time to swap the glass and interior out of a Superfast into a Super GT RS2000

Thought the Superfast would just go in the parts box, but thinking about it, I can use the black glass and paint it black, should look mean. I used the Super GT base as it has suspension unlike the metal base original.
