I thought finding a Trooper would be easy, there's millions* of the real thing out there.

Think I'll have a go on eBay Japan. ..

Posted

Thanks, just had a look. No troopers.

But I discovered that an Isuzu Hillman minx exists

I've given up on Troopers for now, made a start on the next transporter project.

Paint has been stripped using caustic soda and the undersides primed.

The U23 will be butchered shortly to make a tractor unit.

This'll take a while as my workshop is ambient Normandie temperature so paint takes an age to dry.

More Norev Amis have arrived. Think I might have over filled my transporter.

Don't think you can have too many Norev Amis though...

I ended my quite considerable model car purchasing embargo tonight by availing myself of £16.83 for a 'defect' Atlas Ford Galaxie 500. To be fair the flaws are clearly pictured in the listing which consist of 3 paint bubbles and an ill-fitting door.

I am quite prepared to live with that for the price, however said 'living with' may not actually start until as late as 5th February according to the description. There is no rush though.

Always a bit disappointing when you find a model that's been clobbered like this.  Apart from the windscreen frame and the missing driver (which I'm not too fussed about), it was in reasonable shape.

Makes for a good makeover candidate at least.  I broke the frame trying to straighten it and had to build it from scratch.  You can get replacement frames, but why bother when you've got wire, superglue, and modelling putty to hand?

post-5335-0-85681600-1545177125_thumb.jpg

Missing the driver and the windscreen, as usual.  I did find half of the red plastic windscreen inside the car, sadly not enough to turn into a new windscreen.

post-5335-0-97915300-1545177137_thumb.jpg

I don't have many black cars and since the interior was in very good order on this one and I had a red that exactly matched to touch in the chips on the top of the seats, that's what I did.  I made the windscreen a little bit too tall I think.  Other than that, really happy with it.

Another cheapy, this Thames minibus Estate Car was in the usual condition and for considerably less than they tend to command.  I don't really know why this model in particular warrants some of the prices they get, it's not one of the best offerings.

post-5335-0-81858800-1545177240_thumb.jpg

Cleaned up well.  I sanded off the moulding peak on the roof and took a gamble by giving it a working van paint scheme of black and grey.  The grey reacted on the roof and went funny but it actually adds to the model.  I'm considering giving weathering powders a go on this one to make it look like it hasn't been washed in a few years and essentially driven into the ground as many of these vans presumably were.  Finished for now at least.

Only one of my Field Cars are in good shape, this wasn't that one.

post-5335-0-21378200-1545177426_thumb.jpg

Fancied giving it a bit of a glam seaside resort makeover and it looks about as horrible as I expected, in just the right sort of way.

The next batch are patiently waiting for me to make up my mind on colours.  Does anyone have a colour photograph/picture of what this Ghia bodied confection is supposed to look like?  I've only been able to find black and white shots.  I'm assuming it features a LOT of stainless steel/chrome/aluminium trim.

The Dormobile Thames often gets turned in to 'Italian Job' replicas, and then Ford scene tax, great work there

I actually found a copy of the Commercial Motor in my cupboard that features the Casaro/Ghia Royal Tiger but no mention of the colour scheme!    Dark metallic blue with a sky blue roof would be a good start - and yep, lots of brightwork....Nice work on that Field Car.....

Does anyone want this for free before I charity it? Mine since kid-hood, added the decals recently - but decided it's not staying in the collection.

Now claimed.

Picked up this Matchbox Dodge dragster a while ago,it was the typical playworn example with bent wheels and broken front grille.

Surprisingly the paint isn't too chipped and the stickers survived.

Decided to wheel swap it,some Hot wheels real rider slot mag style rims with rubber tyres.

The broken grille was fixed by using some putty and taking a mould.

Filled the mould with fiberglass resin, then using some epoxy putty attached it to the cars interior.

A squirt of chrome effect paint later and it looks somewhat decent.

Can I blag the MG1100 ?

Posted

Norev transporter has arrived :)

It's slightly fucked but it was less than 26 euro.

I'll just chop off the remains of the guard rails and give it a good clean.

Then load it up with Norev Amis and make brum brum noises

Treeees YT videos which I hope may be of interest. Magnorail

Short vid which does not give much away.

This one gives loads of information on how to set up a scene. Love the wobbly wheels.

A better version of what I had when I was a kid.

Sure, just PM me your address. I think I posted something to you before, but may have deleted the message.

I thought I'd do an update on that Cadillac ambulance I was converting to a pickup/flower car (page 293)

I had a bit of bother with it. The roof snapped into five pieces after I'd got it all glued & in place. So gorilla glue super gel and some filler sorted it out. (Isopon P38 if you lot are unfamiliar with filler)  :-)

I was going to paint it dark blue but went for cream. Think the cream turned out looking too white. I still might repaint it blue.

I'm not sure what to do with the pickup bed and the old ambulance bed it seems to fit too well.

I'm going to put a back window in and try and find a water slide logo for the doors if I can.

Impressive stuff. I'm familiar with the Faller system but I'd never heard of this. Funnily enough I was watching Matchbox Motorway videos a few weeks ago and thinking how much potential an updated version would have, then along came Magnorail with exactly that.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Everard Junction owned by shiter TripleRich of Granada-welding fame?

Oh bollocks. Now I want one.

I've had a few model railways over the years but they never seem to hold my attention for very long. The concept of a model chod roadway is FAR more appealing...

Not sure whether I can follow the thought process to paint a flower car beige, tbh.

Anyway, flower cars have a stainless cover like this:

cadillac-1964-flower-car-miller-meteor-h

Alternatively you could load it with model railway/wargames/craft flowers.

I bought swmbo 2 EFE buses from a seller in Kent who has shitloads of cheap old stock, one arrived still wrapped in the original tissue paper, brand spanker and under £15 each shipped, arrived 2 days after purchase as well! Both ENOC dereg Colchester buses as well.

That Flower Car does look outstanding, even in beige.  A bed cover would now make sense on it.  Of course then you need the matching hearse and limos.....

Remember I had a broken Norev metal Renner 5? Ended up breaking it and sending some bits to a chap in Italy via a Facebook group.

So its life was

- made in France

- lived in Germany

- shipped to England

- broken for parts and sent to Italy

Pan-European!

I thought the Yanks have some white hearses? I'm probably going even more nuts.

I wasn't sure on what colour to paint it, the cream went wrong really.  Now you mention it it would look better black, it would bring out the shape of the Cadillac more. I do like the back cover, I'm thinking the aluminium from a beer can and some paperclips. I could reshape the ambulance bed to resemble a coffin. I like this thread it gives me good ideas. :-D

That 59 Caddy has nicked the back roof line from a 58 Lincoln.
