I’m not sure where 1:50 came from to be honest. It does seem more of a European thing that Corgi just got into.

The annoying thing (for me!) is that if you want cars 1:43 has most things covered. But if you want trucks you’re screwed if you want British stuff. Likewise buses. There’s a few off the shelf ones available but not much at all. Lots of the O gauge railway modellers do actually use Corgi 1:50 trucks but it does stand out as being too small. There’s not a huge amount of choice though unless you start chopping things up and building your own. Although I suppose it does give me something to do!

Corgi are still doing the range of 1:50 trucks and buses but I don’t think it’s called Classics anymore. They do a lot of more modern vehicles now. It must be popular as there’s a huge cottage industry making accessories, spares and code3 parts for them.

I have seen a few 1/43 scale trucks I'd quite fancy, especially those IXO partwork ones.

I mean check out this awesome Pegaso 'Chinese Six' fire service type vehicle.

😄 err, you probably wouldn’t like what you’d see in my shed! I use loads of those to chop up for building my British trucks!
I’ve never had that particular model, but some very similar. There’s loads from a French partwork too, mostly Berliet’s but they make excellent donors too as you can pick them up fairly cheaply and easily.
The artics are especially impressive, especially when you look at the size of them. As I say, there’s loads in my shed waiting to be taken to bits!

Quite the opposite, I love model conversions.

I think the old Dinky and Corgi trucks of the 50s and 60s were roughly 1/50 scale and the original Corgi Classic Commercials from about 1985 (Bedford O series, Thornycroft, Renault) were intended to evoke that.

Fast forward to 1998 and Corgi wanted to take on Tekno (NZG and Lion were, I think, gone by then?) with 1:50 scale modern Trucks.  The first releases were great subject choices, ERF EC and Daf 85, 2 of the most common lorries on the road at the time. What they lacked in opening features they made up for in detail and liveries. They were at the time also about half the price of a Tekno and came in a massive plastic display case. I only have a few as they were still quite expensive.

I like the old 1:50 classic Trucks and used to have a lot of them, including a fantastic International Transtar which did have a tilt cab. I sold all but one which was an Albion Caledonian. One of my dad's customers was Albion Automotive in Glasgow and they gave him the model to give to me. Neither the Company or my dad are with us any longer so I'm glad I kept that one.

1/43 is a good scale for Trucks but its too big for me really. I have a couple of tractor units but no complete outfits.

I'm sure you are right there, the old Corgi models look to have been rather smaller scale. I only own one old Corgi vehicle (left) and it is clear around the same scale as the lorry. Incidentally the version pictured was made between 1963 and 66 so is an amazing 60 years old (just like the real one parked outside). Apart from the knackered tyres (new ones are in the post) its in awesome condition.

I had the International Transtar. Mine was the one with big tractor tyres on the trailer. They did another one with a load of crushed cars on the back.
When I sold that one I did quite well on it if I remember right.

CF Corolla is indeed a strange one. I've got a few castings supposedly made by them but none with the actual CF lettering on the base

I decided to use the existing tailgate on the Transit minibus to be the basis of the double doors.  I used an off cut of plastic card to make a divider in the single window then filed and sanded to shape.
Filed off the handle then marked up the centre line and made a shallow cut with a razor saw to look like the shut line.
Only thing left really is the little recess then filed and rear door handle sits in. Not sure how I’ll do that though.

IMG_7971.jpeg.eaab85d7ffe7391544180cad35f2c3ce.jpeg

Also did a bit more to the Leyland Bison. Bit of painting and fitted some jewel headlights. Painted the skip too.

IMG_7973.jpeg.c727f7290d240216318fb81d47e67967.jpeg

The skip, although it’s good, is a bit of a rough print. Lots of marks all over from the printing. It shouldn’t matter so much though as I’ll dirty the skip up a bit to hide it.

That Bison is becoming a favourite of mine I think!

Right, as I'm here in Brussels, I've done the family thing and decided today to pop out to Cora. Unfortunately, Cora seemed rather sparsely stocked of anything including some particular foodstuffs I wanted to buy. It was like this last time I visited.

As I understand it now, the supermarket Cora is being sold on. The current owners feel the store is no longer financially viable which is a real shame as they had some brilliant stock there.

I've already got the yellow Civic though.

Last year I compiled a list of the scale of each Corgi model that Marcel Van Cleemput (Corgi Chief Designer) divulged in his book, quite a few aren't noted by him. I did post my document here then, but it did take up a lot of space so I won't post it again. Anyway the early Corgi Land Rovers are 1/46 and according to the book all Corgi Major toys are 1/48.

If anyone like a copy of my list, PM me with your email address and I'll send it to you.

Right. Currently at Pêle-Mêle. Again, not a huge amount that is interesting me here.

This little engine-type thing is honestly the most interesting thing here.

I forgot to say, I passed by another place called BD & Geek around the corner from Pêle-Mêle that had a small cabinet of stuff. Of course, I had to buy:

Then I passed by Uncle's place who lives a stones throw from this market:

Done. I think that's about 6.99 € or something.

I use xe.com to do conversion €/£ calculations if that's cool with everyone.

I think it was about 2 €. That's how much I bought the white one for.  Happy to pick it up for you if it's still there

Thank you!

I've found a few bits on my quick tour of Norfolk which I'll look at properly when home, but possibly the most unusual is this Skoda Favorit. No maker's name, says 1:48 scale. Mint, cost me a pound in a charity shop

Outsiders coming in and taking all our best stuff!

Wonder if it might be related to the Skoda importers being based in King's Lynn back in pre-VAG days? Maybe belonged to/was gifted by a former employee?
